Lost In Translation Again?
West Ham United midfielder Dimitri Payet appears to have refused to rule out a January return to France, but the key word is appears! Unless your french is spot on, and assuming you are well versed in Dimitri Payets colloquial Reunion accent you may well draw your own conclusions, but generally trusting translations should only be done with a healthy pinch of salt. Speaking in an interview with Christophe Dugarry for French website SFR Sport, the Euro 16 star apparently confessed that he would be interested in a potential return to Marseille the club he spent two turbulent years with before moving to West Ham. When asked by Dugarry whether he would ever play in France again, a smiling Payet replied: "I have said I would not close the door to anything."Marseille has a new project that seems interesting, although obviously we are waiting to hear from the new owners, but everyone knows my attachment to this club." Payet, who joined West Ham in the summer of 2015 for just £10.75million is contracted to the club until 2021, having signed a new £125,000 per week five year contract in February.
Payet has also been quoted as saying that he has had no contact with Arsene Wenger about a move to Arsenal. The Hammers playmaker has been touted with a possible move to the Gunners, despite Wenger revealing earlier this year he had previously passed up on the opportunity to sign the mercurial France international. Payet says he is focused on steering West Ham away from relegation trouble but admits it "could be fun" to play in Wenger's team. "I read that Wenger considers me the missing piece of the Arsenal's game, but he's never told me that!" Payet told news outlet RMC. "We conceded five or six at home against them. When you see them playing, as a technical player, you could only have fun in that team, they're candidates for the title every year."
Hammers are still in the bottom half of the Barclays Premier League table and sit just five points clear of the relegation zone despite beating Hull 1-0 on Saturday. "The situation at the club affects me, but I'm an ambitious person," Payet said. "I'm in a fight with my club and I'm giving everything for them, to get out of this difficult situation, but I'm not closing the door to anything. "I miss the Champions League... I've got some great years ahead of me and I want to enjoy them by playing in important competitions."
Slaven Bilic had said he expects Payet to stay with the club and that he could not see a possible swap deal with Manchester United's Anthony Martial happening. Payet added: "If I'm forced to leave West Ham, it will be done according to the rules the club will have its share of the cake. "My coach understands that today's situation does not suit me. I will ask the questions at the right time."
So a little more mischief from those 'in the know'?Both media outlets 'highlighting' Payet's potential departure have ironically also recently been talking up Michy Batshuayi linking up with Dimi during the january window in a loan move from Chelsea to West Ham! - Ed

I obviously would prefer him to stay, but like we all know loyalty in the modern game is very rare these days....
If he goes i just hope the money paid for him is spent on some decent players, but i wont hold my breath!!

Yes I wouldn't be surprised to see Payet go .. If we can get around £30/45 Million for him I would be inclined to let him go anyway at the end of the day he is coming up 30 .. Plus "imo" someone with his Magical Football Skills that he showed us last season perhaps deserves the chance to perform at a Bigger Club with his Age etc .. And as you say "Hammers65" lets see the money then used towards trying to Buy 3/4 other Quality Players if possible .. "imo" I think we need 3/5 more players in the January Window after we have had a bit of a clear out ! .. Albeit Getting and Finding the Players required though is a different matter .. I'd like that Sigurdson at Swansea for starters !

That's quite a significant sum u mentioned &I would be surprised if we got anywhere near that considering one stellar year is being followed by a quite average one for a layer with his ability. I think 20-25 would be the max we could expect.

Dont mean to sound condescending but anyone who thinks he will be a west ham player at the beginning of Febuary is delusional

I remember many people say the same thing in the summer and how his injury was a cover up etc... All abit boring now. He will 100% be a west ham player come next summer.

I would say that Payet problem is and always has been consistency. On his day he can be outstanding but the odd wonder free kick aside he goes missing in many games. This is why he has never been signed by one of th big clubs. Will someone pay 40m for him ? I doubt it. 20 - 25 m perhaps !

You say all that and I do agree he's been very lazy this season but on the flip side of that he's been involved in half our goals. We'd be more in the shite if he wasn't here

Guys, but for 125k a WEEK he should be putting the goals in with his little toe, skipping around players as if they were ME, but he is not. Get rid and bring in someone that wants to play, not someone that wants the money.

I really don't get why anyone would think Payet will leave this window! Those that do ask yourself why he didn't move to the top clubs the season we bought him for what amounts to peanuts these days? I'll tell you why. In short its age and consistentcy. We were lucky to get a very good season out of him last time out and he doesn't have that many years left in him. He is not good enough for real, barca or bayern, and too inconsistent for the other top clubs. Payet has proved all those clubs right. He also doesn't work hard enough for the English clubs. He has an outside chance at psg but they can buy better. So in short I don't believe anyone better than us who are willing to pay 30m will want him.

I don't get why so many people are getting on his back over every little thing tbh. I havent once seen him say I want to leave west ham. Hasn't handed in a transfer request. Just the Media won't leave him alone. His quotes about marseille for example taken out of context he was asked whether he would ever play in france league again one day. Marseille is his supported club so it makes sense. What payet has said is how he is focused on west ham and getting us higher up the table and at the end of the day inconsistent or not hes far an away our best player. He won't be leaving west ham any time soon.

Not getting on his back Fred. I agree with everything you say. I would infact say he is tailor made for us based on our past players. I was just explaining why he WILL be staying and there is no doubt in my mind at all.
