but sitting back to deep and playing at a pedestrian tempo against a team with players like they have you will get caught and we did......but oh look we go the goal behind suddenly try a bit quicker and there was feghouli doing a carlton finish!...i'm sorry but we are at home odds against us and we give them the initiative from the start its bad team tactics.....press them some more there defence is average to say the least

Bilic has proved time and again this season that he is just not up to the job tactically.Wtf do you allow Man Cty with their quality players so much time on the ball, closing down is just not in Bilic's coaching manual.Repeatedly this season I have watched this Westham side back off , rather than press, desperately getting players behind the ball ....what good is that ,it just invites wave after wave of pressure, this is Allardyce all over again, absolutely clueless.Just watch the way teams like Man Cty play when they are not in possession of the ball, they chase that ball down, giving the oppostion no time to do anything constructive with it,and that is what was happening in this match. For 15 mins Westham were managing to do some neat passing, most of it in their own half,it has to be said, but the end result was zilch, Carroll up front just does not work, you need pace and movement, and you need to give him support. Two, out and out forwards Westham are crying out for ,like Kitson and Hartson....McCavennie and Cottee, this side is powder puff in attack,no wonder Payet is pissed off,his performance levels dropping, there is no player making runs ,no movement up front whatsoever,it really is a bloody sham.Tonight was an embarrassment, and I can see it being more of the same.BILIC OUT!

Essex totally agree with most of what you said, spot on about bilic and the way he plays. 2 up front? On that pitch there would be so much space in our midfield you could drive a tank through it! We would get mullered every week. Yes we need to get into teams faces more, more intensity etc. we can easily play 1 upfront it just requires more mobility from our front man and quick and good support from those around him going forward. We also need our defence drilled to death! Non of these have happened for the most of the season! I'm so gutted to agree with shearers comments, I may never recover. As he generally is a no nothing tw?t

a defence FULL STOP.. If Read got injured we would be fucked, NO back up and NO RB. all talk about getting a Lutheran striker makes me angry. We desperately need a CB and RB

Totally agree . No team in the prem defends like we do , too deep, not tight enough, no tackles and no tracking runners . Add to that a mentality of fear not endeavour, and tou have what we have

We didn't deserve that, a bloody own goal and now we are turning to shit. If we don't get a couple of decent players in soon we can kiss everything goodbye.

you should take the match to the opponents but nope we basically sat back and said go on break us down and once the pen went in it was all over///chasing a game against this kinda team you will get mullered and that's whats happening

We are useless really. Maybe grab a win against lesserteams but cannot compete against the better ones. We just make it too easy for them

Disaster. Bilic has it all wrong tonight. okay that the penalty was very questionable r has conditioned the match, but our best player before this was Ried

So what did Nort do wrong then that justifies that? Are you blind to cresswell and ogbonna then. Reid, cresswell and ogbonna drawn to the same ball for their third an average ball from them takes 3 players out of the game and the only defender in the position he should have been was left on his own

He forever backing off and as a redsult the on coming player find it easy to beat him ,he is lacking in something red neck it cant be his lack of failing to adjust ,hes very short on confidence

Burkie 1

Ok burkie, I haven't noticed him back off (anymore than the rest) unless he is showing the winger the outside, but I'll look for it next time. I'm not saying you are wrong but playing defence for most of my illustrious football career backing off tends to be something I notice straight away. He did "back off" when winston made a great tackle in the box, but that wasn't really backing off it was an excellent piece of play holding up the the forward. It was every bit as good as reids tackle but not one person has mentioned it due to it being nortveldt. By no one I mean on other boards mainly as there is far more reasonable stuff typed on this forum.

Tbf, as much as i dont like him. The real problem in the city game was ogbonna. Cresswell didn't have the best of games but he wasn't helped by ogbonna. Our defence is to unbalanced. Althought i don't think Nordveit played that badly, he doesn't understand the right back position. Im starting to worry about Bilic because its basic defence we are struggling with. The idea is if we attack down the left then the whole defence needs to shuffle across so your left with something that looks like a back 3 this way your left center back sort of turns in to a left back to cover and your right back turns in to a spare center back. Now our team doesn't do this. Cresswell will go forward, and instead of coming across Ogbonna stays central and is for some reason always at least a yard deeper then the rest of our line. Our right back in Nordveit will come across abit sometimes but not all the time, which then leaves a huge gap down the left as Reid has to try cover the right side of the pitch and the left side a Ogbonna isnt in his correct position. I would say that citys 3rd came from obonna thinking he can stay deep then push up like hes a footballing wizard, Reid got sucked in out of lack of trust from ogbonna and cresswell who shouldve been the one tackling him was doing his job. I think our defence at the moment would be 100x better if we dropped ogbonna.

Good points Fred pretty much spot on for me. I'd defo dropp agbonna for kouyate when he is back and Nort at right back doesn't give us balance but not his fault IMO. That's why we need a proper right back as well rather than p1ssing around like right back don't matter for years! Agree about basic defending as well. All roads lead to bilic!

as when Sam played the youngsters, the only difference is this is mostly the first team. Sorry but I don't think the players are the only ones that got carried away with last season. If we don't get decent players in soon we will be in serious trouble. Slavans tactics lately have me worried, I can see a couple of our better players wanting out by the end of the season.

I dont see any westham player exactly covering themselves in glory at the moment,so apart from him, would it make much of a difference if some players wanted out??
