The Dance Begins Over Payet Transfer Fee

It was obvious from the outset that there would be plenty of posturing from all parties once West Ham star Dimitri Payet decided to throw his dummy out the pram, co-owners David Sullivan and David Gold along with manager Slaven Billic were quick to act like fans and say Payet is not for sale. However Lady Brady remained rather quiet on the issue, eventually admitting Payet would probably be sold sooner than later, confining her other comments to twitter satire with her “Michail Antonio was in bed with flu yesterday, got out of bed, pulled on his shirt & played magnificently – that’s dedication for you,” tweet.
Now the dust has settled a bit, and following on from a stonking morale boosting victory over London rivals Crystal Palace, the reality of the situation is that Hammers have to sell their french International star in more ways than one. The club is simply not wealthy enough to leave a £30 Million rated player on £120,000 per week rotting in the reserves, secondly the squad morale could be seriously effected if a 'spoiled brat' seems to be pulling all the strings. Some might say Payet will have won, but so what, he came , he played and did what it said on the tin, he owes West Ham litttle more than a thank you for helping to put him of the football map, a service for which the club will benefit to the tune of £10-30 Million in profit! Marseille president Jacques-Henri Eyraud is flying into London on Monday to try and persuade Hammers to sell Payet back to them, a bid of just under £20million plus £2.5million should Marseille qualify for the Champions League, has already been rejected. West Ham have continuously stated that Payet is not for sale, but if an offer closer to their valuation of £40million is made for the French international he is expected to leave before the January window closes. Co-chairman David Sullivan met with Payet’s agent Jacques-Olivier Auguste on Friday with the club again offering to allow the 29 year old to leave this summer if he will see through the rest of the campaign,
however Payet, who is claiming he is suffering from a back injury, is insisting he wants to go this month and largely for personal reasons, his partner has returned to Marseille with the couple’s children, it is understood not to return to these shores.
The anger over what is widely seen as Payet’s betrayal of the club who transformed him into an international star but who have been in desperate need of his magical ways in recent weeks is widespread, pictures and videos circulated of some fans wiping their feet on a Payet shirt as they entered the stadium while others changed the wording of his former song into an expletive filled rant.
Andy Carroll, Mikael Antonio, Manu Lanzini and the rest of the team rose to the occasion on Saturday to prove there can be life after Payet, in fact his absence may remove the stifling effect he had on others creativity due to his brilliance!
Where they once they sang Payet’s name, the home supporters were singing "Super Slave Billic". The King is dead, long live the King. - Ed

but quite rightly the club should hold out for at least £30million..he wants only to play for Marseille and they want him fine but just because they think that they are the only show in town well lets see about that...hold firm they want him they tapped him his mrs has fled back there I'm happy for them but he wants to play they are going to have to pay.

I got a feeling if Payet does change his stance in someway it will all go tits up for him as long as we don't break cover to early and panic.

Dear Dimi,

Thank you for all the great times you brought me last season, you will still be remembered by me as one of the best players EVER to pull on the famous claret n blue shirt, you were without doubt the greatest ever free kick specialist at West Ham, one of the best providers of goal assists and as a real supporter of all things football you were without doubt one of the best leaving memories to cherish. My only wish is that you had the same love for my club as me, my family and so many others Hammers fans. Leave your locker key by the door and see you some time in France or more likely China.... regards, DB xxx :o)

Zaza was almost universally slated by us fans, and he could have made all kinds of excuses, but he MANNED UP and said, "It was me, it was my fault"! What a breath of fresh air!!! Meanwhile sulky Payet says it's family reasons he wants to go back to Marseilles. Sure that's why he refuses to play for us ...

agree. Sell it and take home the most money possible. If in this transfer window does not reach a deal, keeping him out of the team, and send him to work.

if a deal is not agreed by Thursday this week (19th jan) then they will pull out of the deal....what deal they want him on the cheap they aint gonna get him...wonder how he feels now? and his agent lol you created this sh*t storm live with it because as a supporter I never want to see him wear the claret&blue in any of our teams from first to development to the kids...if the move don't happen I do not want to hear an apology as I will not accept it..we gave him everything and he kicked dirt in our face let him rot and his career stagnate.

Well said mcbikeman. If they don't pay the going price we will really see if he only want to play for Marseille. Personally I think he would just prefer to play for marseille which is completely different. Until now ( hopefully) his previous clubs haven't been able to dig their heels in.

Does anyone have any sympathy/empathy for his situation? I don't mean the one he put himself in by going on strike but family wise? He's wife and kids haven't settled and want to go back to Marseille and as the saying goes, behind every great man is a great woman. I know myself having moved around a fair bit that homesickness can be a burden. Whilst he goes out and plays his game his wife is in an unfamiliar environment and struggling to adapt. Don't know if he approached the manager and owners about this, if not he should have and something could have been worked out.

First of all, just how far is Marseille from London? 1,244 km via A26 according to Google. That's about a 1hr flight, which he can afford anytime. He could fly down of an evening if he wanted and come back on the late jet. First class, too, on his salary. He's not even in a different time zone. Try being unsettled in Sydney (where I live) and having family back home (for me, that's in the USA). And no money. Nope, I've got no sympathy with this "can't settle in London on £120,000 per week". It's a joke.

no sympathy at all...why come here in the first place if he gets that homesick surely he would of discussed it with the other half and its not forever but I guess lifes hard for someone like that...one things for sure I bet she does not go out to work...nice life having your cake and eat it.

Yep no sympathy, ditto ashes. Plus the only train about a couple of hours a day! It's not like he is separated from his wife for 12 hours work and can't fly back after. In this day an age fly back to France is easily feasible. Some Brits commute from Spain every day!
