And Snodgrass starting instead of Carroll? I don't get it. If you wanted your best 11 I can't believe you leave AC on the bench.

Wait: sth strange in these team sheets. Swansea include: Fernandez, Carroll, Ayew, Nordfeldt, McBsnodgrass. If all of them play, and if we play Fernandes, Carroll, Ayew, Nordveidt and Snodgrass, it could be a commentator's nightmare. Is this for real?

fantastic goal but I am still not happy with his performance. Watched him closely throughout the game and his interceptions and tackles were nonexistent, a marked change from last season. I was more impressed with tackles from Byram and Musaka. It was a key part of our play and success from last season along with a never say die attitude.

Right no fkg sitting back in the second half, lets go for the second goal...COYI!

why do managers have this fixation on players where they cant see how rubbish they are? what is with this calleri love fest? hes pants. carroll or sakho 100 times better

up

That underlines the gulf in ability. Lanzini is world class, Calleiri is second class

Callieri shouldn't be on the pitch
Collins was defender AND goalkeeper
What were Sakho and Carroll doing on the bench?
Loss of Antonio is big
Might still need points at Sunderland

Well, who cares -- that might just about see us safe this season. Whoo hoo.

Phew but was there a worse game for us? Calleri is NOT a footballer! He doesn't even play with his head up! No shot, poor control, can't read the game. He reminded me of the Sunday footballer you stick up front just because you have no one else and well at least he can run about a bit. 3 points is everything. For me ginger pele motm, closely followed by Lanzini and nobes. Byram solid. Maskaku, fonte, snodgrass and apart from his goal kouyate were all totally anonymous! Why snodgrass got annoyed by his substitution baffles me.

Totally agree with the motm there Red Neck, we deserved that today though even though it was a very poor football match.
When Antonio went off and Noble getting booked (with the two match suspension), I thought here we go we are going to get beaten but to be fair play there was a real gutsy effort by the players epitomised by Ginge at the centre of defense....He was magnificent.
Swansea were piss poor and never looked like scoring but we are missing a load of first team players.....We won today without them!

Yep 65 pretty much agree with your Antonio and nobes take on things and with calleri coming on I though ugh here we go again it just keeps getting worse! Much as I moaned about the game there was a sense that some of the players were gutsy and maybe trying hard just to get some of the basic right.

Managed to keep a clean sheet, and it seemed like the last two matches (well, the first half against Arsenal) they were working to shore up the defence. That could explain too why they look so unbelievably tentative at times -- deliberate, perhaps. Ayew had so many opportunities, I thought, to turn it on and push up, but so often he held things up and then the attack just dissipated. But maybe in these dire circumstances you have to walk before you can run. Collins was just the sort of player we needed for a match like this -- there wasn't anybody who was going to outmanoeuvre him or show him up with that extra bit of style, so his physical capabilities, which count for a lot, were used to the best effect. So many times I've been glad to have him in our side.

I was at the game Ashes seems Carroll had a slight groin strain and word had it Bilic would have put him on if we were chasing the game, Sakho was not risked again (and only a rumour) being kept for Sunderland match.

What a dreadful game. Got the win which was great given our poor form of late, hope this turns our performances around. Positives were Kouyates goal, Lanzini - class as always, Byram (getting better and better) and the ginger beast James Collins. Callieri should be released immediately, not good enough for league 1 even... Sunderland should be for the taking but for crying out loud play Caroll and Sakho!

up

Surely he could have given sakho 15 mins at least, just to help him get up to speed for coming games, because if. Carroll hasn't fully recovered we are stuck with (wait for it,) Jonathan calleri up front with his magic boots and masterful football brain.

it's possible we can get 3 points next week, though I wouldn't count on it. there's so many players should depart in the summer. And we can't count on anyone good coming in.

Great to get 3 points. Had great day at grand national. Backed 10 horses between us but not the winner. 2 winners in other races. Hammers winning makes up for not backing winner in big race.lots of hammers fans here too.

It seems crazy when you have Carroll AND Sakho on the bench that you don't use them. Callieri was dreadful. On one header opportunity you would have thought AC would bury that in the back of the net. 2-0 game over. Instead we had another nail-biter. Maybe he's saving one of them for Sunderland and the other for Burnley ...

i agree ashes, bringing calleri on was an abomination. the shop was full of fresh, succulent turkeys but Bilic went for the last, dry and plastic skinned turkey in the shop.

today and good to see SO much more fight and spirit than Wednesday night. Collins was an absolute brick in defence.
Antonio is going to be a massive loss, though.
Isn't it amazing that the MOTD 'dodos' never ONCE mentioned Chekhou's great strike in their post match 'analysis'?

But let's be realistic, if the opposition had any sort of class we would have lost. Next week is a must win as that should get us past the post but it's Sunderland, we all know that Defoe will score against us so where are the 2 goals that we will need going to come from. Callieri is shit so unless we play a striker either Carroll or Sakho we are no certainties. I know we need him desperately but I would not even contemplate using Antonio until he is 100 % as I would hate to see him do any more damage. Captain Courageous Mark Noble will miss the next 2 games due to his yellow card, what a waste but he is susceptible to the odd brain snap so nothing we can do about it. I must agree with the other comments on here about Collins, he and Lanzini where our best on ground but Callieri and Snodgrass for me where our worst, how Snodgrass can carry on like he did when coming off made me laugh, he has been shit since he arrived except or his first game. Byram had a better game and you could see with his last effort what his teammates thought of him, great defence. The time for me is right to put Adrian back in, a couple of times on corners in the game Randolph looked completely out of sorts but luckily Collins was there to cover. Next week will be interesting.

Must admit I didn't expect Swansea to be so bad, but I agree if it was on another day the performance would have won us nothing. If we win next week that should pretty much be enough, so it may be worth risking people like Carroll and/or sakho. Defies pace and mobility is gona be a big problem for us with pele and fonte at the back. I'd like to see far more of fernandes than we currently are. Ginge in fonte out.
