The board have cost us points.

carroll is out again. how many times have we said that over the last three seasons? back when allardyce was in charge it was same old story. carroll plays a few games gets crocked for months, comes back and needs time to get back into it…finally does and then is crocked again. its not carroll's fault. however the board have had three years now to sort this out. we needed a plan b when carroll was out. you can't say its Bilic's fault as this goes back before he was here. this board can't buy good strikers. beef wellington, Ilan, calleri, zaza…whats wrong with them….why can't they get someone good and reliable ? if they want to deal with the transfers then they should have had this sorted long ago. a prem league side that relies on carroll week in week out. its not good enough. i demand action.

Calleri and Zaza are certainly not bad players.

how many goals did they score?

Everyone has cost us points this season, board, bilic and most of the players. However the board did back bilic over him buying zaza so I'm not sure they can be blamed for that. Infact I'd say, they should be commended for insisting on a loan. There is a lot of opinion that zaza was hindered by the formation bilic chose ie zaza needed a partner to play off. So maybe it was bilics fault this season!

how do we know zaza was bilic choice? and if he were offered zaza or aguero who wud he choose? sometimes you can only choose what the board offer

Bilic had been touting for zaza even the season before. As for aguero, are we blaming the board for not signing players that good now. If you are expecting any board at West Ham sanctioning signing a player of that quality you are living in a parallel universe! Remember, they tried to get bacca, and bats and even lacazette but they just wouldn't come.
I do however feel if they don't spend some real money this summer on quality, we will all know they are not ambitious and their promises are nothing more than lies. The board next season will show the ambition they really have.

exactly my point of the thread. the board wont buy quality. so is this bilic fault or theirs. aguero was a name. point is if it were lacazzette, bacca, sturridge, dembele would bilic have gone for zaza?

lol what a come back there fred. its a nice excuse to give a striker to say he 'works hard and holds the ball up' but I'm afraid zero goals speaks louder. and why always this nonsense about you knowing more than everyone else? it gets tiring.

Im not saying I know more then everyone else. The point is you look at everything in black or white. Your basis of a striker playing well is are they scoring, your basis of someone doing well in midfield is running lot etc... Had Carroll played like Calleri has in the last few games everyone would still bang on about how good Carroll had played. By your basis Tevez was a bad player until that flurry of goals at the end of that season. Had Carroll played last night over Calleri we wouldnt have won. Zaza has scored goals all his career is an italian international yet by time he left us his confidence was shot and he looked crap, why? Because Bilic played him in a system completely unsuited to him. You dont look at the whole picture. I personally think with a decent attacking coach Calleri would be quality.

When we bought unknowns from the lower divisions or lesser teams and made them our own stars. Billy Jennings, Alan Taylor, Matty Ward, "Pop" Robson, MacAvennie etc. etc. God, the modern generation of West Ham fans are as plastic as Chelskis with their unbelievable wish lists

so why are we not doing it still then? afraid your living in the past. how much money were we making in the 80s? as for plastic fans it just makes you look like your trying too hard to make yourself look like the 'great' fan. I do love the 'mines bigger than yours' fan.

Not that long ago some of our fans wanted Jordan Rhodes Huddersfield wanted £8m board said no and at least they dodged a bullet with that one. Let's be honest the big boys will always be first or preferred choice for top strikers. We would need a couple of consistent top 4 finishes to attract them but we need to attract them to get a top four finish ! Very much a catch 22 situation our best hope is unleashing a diamond, and in modern terms a 15+ goals a season player.

but they can be found. I dont know why everyone thinks a mid table prem side isnt able to compete in the transfer market. look at southampton. gabbiadini looks mustard. hull got in a couple, swansea got llorente, sunderland 3 seasons ago got defoe. so it doesnt add up. this excuse oh we cant attract good enough players doesnt wash

they can be found you no who I keep mentioning my mate assombalonga this guys built like Antonio and like Antonio he is difficult to knock off the ball he has a bit of pace about him as well a good eye for goal so whats not to like? of course he is by no means the finished article but hey we took calleri? we took fletcher who has not really had a look in so come on a guy doing it in a struggling championship team will do so much more with better players around him.

Just before Defoe went to Sunderland I heard Allardyce was in talks with Defoe whether Defoe bottled it fearing fans reaction I don't know but the out come was he until this season has kept the Mackems up.

I'm sure calleri was one of those players that could go down as one that could be found. He would also come into the category as a possible diamond in the rough as he scored quite a few in s. America. Fletcher also was a possible diamond punt. Not the boards fault it has yet to come off.

Because on paper Zaza is better than Lorente and Gabbiadini. Only hindsight makes him a bad signing. We were unlucky. Had Southampton signed Zaza and we signed Gabbiadini, people would have been up in arms at that, only the way their individual seasons have gone says one is better than the others

but zaza was a winger who came on as sub who hardly scored goals at juventus. gabbiadini is a pacy goal poacher. even I can see which is better suited. whos fault is it then? the scouts who are paid to get right players, the board for not doing homework or the manager for choosing if he did?

but my point is someone is being paid to get it right. you and i are not but they are. so when we buy someone, it doesnt matter what his wikipedia says, someone should have done their homework surely. its the same with so many of our signings, people say but on paper they are good…yet when they come they are pants. what i mean is someone is getting it wrong consistently. who is this person? the board? the manager? the scout? the whoever puts names forward? who is he? show yourself..

I think you could say that zaza before he came to us was decent and has been decent since he left. Now that's either bad luck, he could t settle in London or he couldn't get on with the manager and team, or personal issues as in Payet's case. It may be all of them but I just do t think you can legislate for any of them before they sign. There is no secret formula to it imo. Scott Hogan was a bullet dodged. We got lucky there as Villa got unlucky. One thing to be said for Calleri is although he's pants most games, he does stay fit and he has it in the locker to produce. ,a year Bilic sticking with him is the right move. He looks like a player that if he had scored that goal against Spurs may go on and score more?

the calleri thing is a strange one though. personally i haven't seen anything from him that i haven't seen from Fletcher. as you say, its always a guessing game with signings, then why did we plump for calleri when we've got players 'in house' who could be given the gamble? i still go back to the fact that with strikers you are far better off going for those with some proven prem track record. they arrive like zaza, get off to a poor start and then have no confidence and never will.

is a finisher a guy who knows how to put the ball in the net and is used to doing it and does not freeze when the chance comes....you find players at all levels who just have the knack of putting the ball in the net give them a chance and bang its a goal....just look at soccer Saturday and you see the names coming up on a regular basis scoring week in week out the only problem you have is will they be able to do it at the highest level? well as in my reply to dicksy below this guy Assombalonga can and would do it but you need to convince the manager...bilic was not interested in Antonio but he was got in the rest is history...guys from south America and lower leagues of European footy are chased so is it not to much to ask the board/manager to take a look down the league and take what maybe not such a big gamble.

If you you look through the leagues there are plenty who can finish but it is more a case of making sure they fit in and you supply the right kind of ball, we have had plenty of movement in and around the box on occasion yet that initial shot is way off target. Much needed practice is needed in that department. We may already have the very person who knows Fletcher could be the answer but he needs games.

and it is only my opinion but this guy has it all he can move like sackho he is as strong as carroll and he knows how to score....he came back from a bad knee injury at start of season and has not looked back...well worth the gamble but its not up to us I just hope we don't live to regret it when a team who are at the same level as us take the plunge on the player..if anyone twitters please bend mr golds ear a bit please

I totally appreciate your frustration. In defence of the Porn Dwarfs I genuinely think they try there best to get the quality strikers we crave. i think we sit in a very difficult positions in attracting the high end as we are not top four hence no Champions League and not top 7 to qualify for Europa League. We are always on the radar of over rated or paid ageing strikers or unproven youngsters in UK with inflated ambition and pay demands!

Those consecutive losses to Bournemouth, Leicester and Hull cost us points. Had we won all three (and we should have, if we had played like we played the last 3 matches), we'd be on 51 points and cemented in the top ten. Even given how dismal the first half of the season was, we'd be finishing near where we were last season. So I think more than anything that 3-match blip cost us points. What were the main problems? One was playing Randolph instead of Adrian. Another was tactics. I don't want to lay all of this at Slav's door, because he had a helluva difficult ride with Payet sulking in the first half of the season, and there were rumbles of player dissatisfaction over that whole period of the three matches in question. But I just want to say there's many ways to cut this pie -- on some the board cost us points, on others Slav, on others the players.

i agree with you ashes, my post was about the points the board cost us due to the lack of decent striker. some disagree that it was their fault, but that was my post anyway. bilic has cost us points, so has randolph, so has payet….theres a lot of lost points but i was just speaking about the specific striker situation.

but as soon as they think there is news to be had about "that special marquee signing", we'll be hearing it all over again, until someone pips us or the deal goes sour over terms. Meanwhile, the quiet pursuit of freebies, cheapies and oldies will continue unabated. Nevertheless, I'm hopeful of a better season next season. I don't see how we can do as badly in the market, and I think Ayew, Snodgrass, Masuaku, and Byram should all be better for us next season than they have been this season.

agree. ayew and snodgrass will be better. look at nordveit, already looking better. i do blame Bilic again though. playing players out of position is o.k in desperation but when you buy a new player you can't shift him all over the place and expect him to settle. he's now done it with nordveit, ayew and snodgrass. i do hope over the summer bilic makes his mind up about what formation we will play and stick to it. that way he can assign players for one position and buy according to that formation.

Byrams last 2 games against swansea and tottenham he was superb. Just needs to cut out the stupid shirt pulls. I really like Ayew but Snodgrass needs to just leave. Never rated him before he joined think hes even worse now.
