Monday night

hoping to see Bilic play two strikers and be brave and have the players push on and get huddersfield on the back foot from the start and don't let up...the team owe it to the fans to put on a performance that gets the blood pumping and confidence coming back.....what i don't want to see is negative sideways and backwards passing and most of all stop using the keeper like an outfield player and pass to deep lying defenders......get it up field no pissing about around your own box....of course west ham being west ham we have no left sided player because of injury/suspension/and some just shite so like a few on here have said last season and already this play cressy there and put arthur at fullback....guess we will see. COYI

Blood & thunder like the old days,2 up front & take it to em...these players need to show some fight if not they will feel the full wrath of the mighty hammers faithfull!! said it before about playing cress & mas, especially with arnie out, though id play cress at full back & mas can crack on down the left wing...its time for these players to stand up & be counted & i hope every hammer going tomorrow gets behind them!!COYI

rumours circulating it will be 2 up front in a 4-4-2 as bilic looks to finally change things. might be carroll nd chick pea or sakho nd pea. would also free up antonio and lanzini wide. weakness tho is in cm. interesting to see how it pans out.

ok we won and we played 2 up front and i am happy with that BUTTTTTT the lack of creativity in the middle of the park was so clear to see i am still worried as our only real plan seemed the punt up to carroll after that we were rather bereft of what to do..Antonio was the clearly the best player on the pitch and deservedly got M.O.M....so we have won but i do not believe we will win against wba playing like that...still prefer to have a flat back four to 3 cb's specially Fonte but i think slav will play the same players and formation which will have pulis rubbing his hands with glee...i would play sak and chicarito to start with because of there better movement makes us less predictable and carroll can come on from the bench but again i do worry about our lack of creativity we need lanzini back so badly but dont rush him back and injure him long term.

think it was a front 3. thought the 3-4-3 suited us much better than his beloved 4-2-3-1. players had more space and the back 3 became 5 when we didnt have the ball.

It was pissing down with rain and they wanted to come to try and get on the ball and dominate a slow build up game. Slav's tactics were spot on in the first half, we hampered, hassled and never let up on them. Almost all the play was in their half or last third. Apart from a few missed opportunities we could easily have been 2 up. Ginge was immense at the back and I thought Fonte had his best game for us. Zabaletta was working his socks off up and down the touchline and just pipped Cresswell on the other side. Carroll threw himself about and created problems for their defence. Antonio was a beast and well deserved MOM. As of the others they had ok games, but you could see that if we doubted their commitment to the manager we don't need to now. I think the key to the performance was Ginge and Carroll's inclusion. They were so committed that nobody could hide. We did lack a bit of class in the middle, but in reality we only have one of those sort of players in Lanzini. I like the 3-4-3 because Arnautovic, Ayew and Sakho can easily slip into it. Talking of Arnautovic I was next to him for the second half. I was curious to see what he'd do if and when we scored. Well he went mental, jumping up and cheering, so he does care! My mate went to give him a high 5 and they ended up in a man hug. Seems like a decent bloke to be fair. His missus is a worldly too.

Not sure where my post went? Anyway fonte was fine but our defence wasn't really put under pressure. Thought obiang was man of the match. We did lack creativity. We are told the formation was 343 and I'd expect bilic to call it that. I'd say it was more like Carroll upfront on his own with Hernandez and big Nick slightly withdrawn. Making it 3421. So for me still not 2 upfront at all. Hernandez threat was nullified by playing a bit deeper. Carroll won very little in the air and wasn't needed to hold up play as we were on the front foot. Sakho should have replaced him and both him and Hernandez should have played in a 2 on the backs of the 2 centre halves their speed movement and nous would have caused more mayhem. Car rolls 2 big assests are in the air and holding it up. More suited to when we don't have the initative. Bilic also hauled off the 2 wrong players!

so if he'd have done what you think we'd have won 4-0? sorry mate I know you and a few others don't like him but the ground were signing Super Slav, so as for the paying fans you're in the minority. I think you're grasping a little bit. Talk about find a negative in a positive. Most of us are just received we beat a team who were 5th before the game and hadn't conceded a goal. Oiang was the worst player on the pitch for me, followed by Kouyate. If you look at his shot the ended up a goal it was as weak as cack. Kouyate's left foot shot first half look like a pass back. We just had 3 defeats in a row, he's about to lose his job and you expect more!? I'd have taken anything last night apart from a defeat. Our defenders didn't have to defend much, isn't that a positive? Isn't that the point? Horses for courses, Carroll suited yesterday he won everything in the first half and was a constant nuisance. I don't know what you guys are watching sometimes, maybe a dodgy internet connection ; ) just enjoy it, although I see were already written off against West Brom, ho hum

is it just me or do we always seem to look a much stronger side all round when carroll plays? i'm a carroll fan, always have been, but i believe that he brings a lot more to the team than just a big strong striker.

Agree DITM. The fact he didn't win much in the air yet always looked a threat was a big plus. Skinned the full back in the first minute with a lovely first touch that a more alert Kouyate would have buried and ran his socks off giving the CB's constant headaches. One thing that does annoy me abut him other than the constant injuries is his mouth. Trappy Northerner that another less tolerant ref would have booked for dissent. Needs to lose that. Did feel however that our pace (surprising I know) was the cause of problems. Antonio seemed to enjoy giving the fullbacks a head start and then chasing em down like a big cat in Africa. Total menace. Should have won by a couple more but relieved by the win all the same. Hopefully our PL campaign has kicked off albeit 3 weeks late and we can start pushing up the table.

Yes dicksy,he sure makes a difference, he's an absolute weapon on his day, i wish for him and us that he can just stay bloody fit,as a defender who wold want to face him,but I would like to see more goals out of him for a N09,but keeping him fit and scoring goals,we can't have it both ways can we now ;)

Dicks just been reading other forums, strange how different people see things Carrolls performance on Monday is getting slated! I think he was somewhere I between personally.

No no Betty you got the complete wrong end of the stick here! I'm not saying we would have even won had he done what I said I was just looking at it from a different angle. No negativity meant, but a bit of reality too. Well I do expect more but not all in one go. Let's not get carried away with this performance tho. I was just happy we played better regardless of result. It's a step forward no doubt but that's all it was. It great we didn't have to defend that much any ideas why? I'd say obiang protected them well. Yes let's enjoy it we have been really poor, yesterday we were better and more watchable, but we still have a way to go to improve to where we should be. As for Slavs name being sung, I don't doubt it especially on his birthday, but wasn't he also booed when he subbed Hernandez? I'm also guessing it WASNT 50,000 singing his name either so it's just the vocal ones, so to imply the paying public support him is stretching limits a bit.

It's also just vocals ones booing Ayew's substitution. I'm totally in agreement that it's a positive step forward and not much more. It does however put things into perpesctive that Huddersfield after 3 games had manager of the season and were flying and we were relagated with Bilic sacked already. In one game although I don't think we're anyway out of the woods I can see a team playing for a manager and a very average team just promoted and likely to be relegated, Klopp's mate and media darling or not.

Betty that's exactly the message I was trying to portray almost word for word! Not out of the woods but was a performance we need to get some perspective on. Hear some of our comments ( not digging anyone out) reads like our performance has been over rated due to the previous performances being so poor. We seemed a bit conditioned to expect the sh1t gone before, and was such a release we hVe over rated our game. Having said that why shouldn't fans enjoy the win. For me it was more a relief.

Regardless if huddersfield turned up or not,or we wernt that great - the general consensus at the game was of tremendous relief that we got 3 points in the bag, first win of the season that hopefully will build confidence...lets be honest if we had of lost the knives would be out & one thing i think is more evident imo the players are actually now trying their best for the manager..
