West Ham United's new manager has been confirmed as Manuel Pellegrini, the 64 year old Chilean has taken over the vacancy left by David Moyes' recent departure. With a three year deal in place it is obvious that there had been some rather detailed discussions as to budget and more importantly hierarchical interference prior to Pellegrini signing on the dotted line.

Pellegrini is not a dynamic thrusting young manager, however he is a relatively safe pair of hands in the same vein as Sam Allardyce due to his Premier League experience, the important difference and one which David Sullivan in particular is gambling on, is the fact that Pellegrini likes his team's to play 'expansive' football. Well he will have one of the biggest 'expanses' in the Barclays Premier League when his team plays at home won't he?

Will Pellegrini get the 'band' back together? Ya Ya Toure, Mario Ballotelli and the already in place Pablo Zabaletta could re-unite, but before fans start to raise their expectations, using the same values would see the return of Joe Hart! But surely 'The Pilgrim' will have noticed the stoppers decline over the last couple of years or maybe he was too busy counting his money!

There will be plenty of recruitment speculation now and in the coming days, one key issue will be resolving the 'Super Mario' situation, as he is the sort of young player who could be purchased and then sold on for a big profit later. If the other Mario turned up as well, which is not inconceivable given that he is a free agent, then fans might having something to look forward to, and although initially the average age of the squad would go up, it would be in a good way, and sustainable for at least one or two seasons.

For the moment fans should just be grateful that the managerial recruitment process has happened in a short space of time, and has not been a long drawn out soap opera played out in the media.
These are good times to be a Hammer, although fate and history would suggest that now is the time to enjoy what might be, as opposed to what will probably be! - Ed

Been downhill ever since. Now I'm a fan of Pellegrini, probably much to your surprise. He usually sets up attractive to watch teams. But I have my reservations because the main disease of this club is still there. I am very interested to see the comings and goings this summer.

Of the previous managers team, and one signing in Payet, who Allardyce wanted in January.

So where he wanted to play him, I couldn't tell you. All I know from newspaper reports is that he was in Sams January want list at a time of our crippling injury period. Arsenal and Newcastle had tabs on him too, common knowledge actually.

Goes to show that the fans voice DOES matter and has hopefully got through to them regarding investment!

Now we need to get rid of the dead wood and give him a budget he can work with.

After backing the previous two managers to take us forward, I'm sitting well and truly on the fence on this one and will be nailing a leg either side so I don't fall off!! It's well commented on that he had unlimited funds and multi talented players at Shitty. At WH we don't have that luxury except for a couple of standouts. So transfer window is crucial. If he fills the squad with over the hill has beens the writing will be on the wall. If if goes for some talent well the sky's the limit. Just hope that bloody midget keeps his oar, nose and anything else out and leaves all decision making to the manager. At least he can say with a straight face for once that he tried!

If they have enough money left for new signings after lashing out on his rather extortionate greengages, I am quietly confident he won't be investing in over the hill new recruitments.

His bollocks will be nailed to the fence you nailed your legs to should he be inclined to do so M2C...First things first.

There'll be goodbyes to several over the hill and over hyped players such as Hart, Reid, Evra, Kouyate, Noble, AC, Masuaku, Zabba (sad but true) Ginge (sad but true, too), Fernandes, Quina and Hugill.

Once we've had the full clear out, I'd expect to see lots of new and exciting names added to our roster.
Who these names will be is anyone's guess being a World Cup year. Not a lot of time to do the business before or after to be honest. Get in early is my thought on it, but fingers crossed they do well and don't get injured...
Would love to see if he has any South Americans on his hit list for the midfield & attacking spectrum and maybe Italian (ala Ogbonna) for for the defence.

I am looking forward to seeing what he can do with a fully fit Antonio and Obiang...Wow, forgot all about those two didn't ya's

What do you all think?

I don't expect the number of players leaving will be that many. Personally the squad is not only unbalanced I'd say it was too small! So players like zab maybe retained on a squad basis. You might find 1 or 2 players in last seasons "1st team" will be sold if and only if we can get BIG money. I expect Adrian and zab to stay, obiang and noble. These players will bulk up the squad. If he can get 5 players in I'd say the squad number would be about right. You can't rip the squad apart it takes seasons
