You Can't Have Your Pastore* And Felipe It!

With officials from West Ham apparently en route to Italy to discuss the possible recruitment of Lazio's Felipe Anderson and Genoa's Armando Izzo, any move to sign Javier Pastore from PSG would seem to have been put on the back burner. Indeed West Ham and PSG were in discussion over the transfer of Pastore in a deal worth up to £17.5 Million, but with the attacking midfielder reportedly asking for a salary of £190,000 per week, it was always going to be a bit of a long shot getting the 28 year old to move to the London Stadium, as it would have necessitated the player taking a 40% cut in his wages.

The talk of 'exotic' arrivals is all well and good but the reality is that West Ham United just cannot afford to bring in more than one marquee player in addition to Isso Diop, the funds are unavailable unless there is some serious movement of players leaving. You can't have your Pastore and Felipe it! Sad but true, maybe if things go well by the end of next season, but definitely not this one that is due to start, it is good that the purse strings are finally being opened but don't expect there to be a flood, more of a gentle trickle as l Pel squeezes the board for as much as he can and a little bit more!

Can you imagine the panic at Gnome Towers that comes with the realisation that the club will actually have to put their hands in their pockets in a very public way, after all it's what they promised as the reward for Moving from The Boleyn Ground to the Souless Dome isn't it? Ed

If we got Anderson and Izzo, I'd still be thrilled. Of course if Issa and Izzo play at the same time, it'd be madness. But these are all young, strong players. A spine like we haven't had in a while. That central midfielder is still just eluding us, though. We need someone to link up with and provide for Arnautovic. And we could still use another decent striker ...

On 23 May 2016, Izzo, along with midfielders Luca Pini and Francesco Millesi, was put under investigation by the anti-mafia police department in Naples (DDA) after being accused of being directly involved with a Camorra clan based in Secondigliano in altering the results of the Serie B matches Modena–Avellino (1–0) from 17 March 2014, and Avellino–Reggina (3–0) from 25 May 2014. On 3 March 2017, the Italian Football Federation's prosecutor asked for Izzo to be suspended for six years, also requesting that collateral estoppel be applied, and demanded that he should receive a €20,000 fine. On 12 April, he received an 18-month ban from football and was also fined €50,000.[5][6][7][8][9] On 19 May his ban was reduced to six months.[10]

How did I not know about that? Serious problem. Thanks ACS for bringing that to my attention. Too much suspicion about match fixing these days -- we don't need that on our team. OK so now I'm a definite "No" for Izzo.

Issa Diop looks like a good player - looking forward to seeing him play for us! Now need to get Declan Rice tied down on a deal

And not battling relegation I’m happy. Buying a whole new team would stunt the growth of our development players which would be a shame given the quality amongst them and investment that there has been. I’d like to know a little more about Pel’s network making good lesser known and well priced players more available to us. I read about that a number of times a few weeks ago but there is little evedence of that so far.

It looks like the Felipe Anderson deal maybe a long shot due to numerous other add-ons that Lazio are demanding:

Instead Argentinian Joaquin Correa from Sevilla maybe another option. This maybe Mario Husillos so called marquee signing. Apparently, a Pounds 26 million deal may have been agreed with Sevilla. I will believe it when the deals have been accomplished.

By the way have you heard of Mia Khalifa? She is an ardent West Ham supporter and even been photographed wearing the West Ham colours at the Heron Tower. The Sun has photographs of her wearing the Claret and Blue. West Ham is becoming a more and more popular club. :)

Be careful if you google her ... you have been warned. OK on a more serious topic: it is exactly what we were all fearing that we would get strung along with the Felipe Anderson talk and then, "we tried sooo hard to get him but Lazio wanted too much". That's not the way Machester United got Fred, I can tell you that right now. Joaquin Correa is not a marquee signing in my opinion. And lately I hear rumours that West Ham may be after Aaron Mooy. Look, as an Australian I can tell you he's OK, but he's nothing special. I guarantee this would be a David Sullivan signing: cheap, functional, pragmatic, but will never take us forward. Sullivan is the kind of guy that watches the World Cup minnows and doesn't see a team like Belgium. He probably thought that Costa Rica looked good because they stalled Brazil for so long.

Well how are we supposed to know you are Australian?nhow can we take you views seriously anymore! What do Aussies know about football? They probably still call it soccer!

Truth be told, I was born and grew up in America, and still have an American accent. So you'd all probably call me a yank. Nevertheless, I recall (though I was definitely in my cups) being forced to sing both Waltzing Matilda and the Bruce's Philosopher's Song at the Slug and Lettuce in Southend during a wonderful visit to England when I was fortunate enough to see West Ham play Southend in a friendly. "Forced to sing" is too strong -- I had a wonderful time and experienced wonderful generosity. It was then I met such stalward orgers as Bondsy and Darrenharry and Wrighty Shanghai and JayK and many others -- I never made any attempt to hide my nationality. And I think several times on this site I've commented about how difficult it is to watch West Ham lose a nailbiter at 3am! The only thing I think might have confused you all is that I speak often about my father in law, who is East London through and through, grew up in Plaistow. Last year I made a pilgrimage to Plaistow and drank in the Black Lion for his sake. He's still alive and kicking, still a great West Ham fan. I married into fanship -- had to sign up for it all, thick and thin, but I'm not unhappy about that. And I'm still a West Ham Fan too ...

Apparently the word "soccer" derives from "as-SOC-iation (football)". Even so, I find it intolerable to call a game in which the ball is kicked around with the feet "Soccer" and a game in which the ball is passed around by the hands "Football". Whoever thought of that was out of his mind. So I call football by the name "football", and the others: Rugby League, Rugby Union, Australian Rules, and (to the constant chagrin of the Americans) "Gridiron". Gridiron most of all is NOT FOOT-ball. (I do like Gridiron, though. It's like Sumo and ballet put together. Just a bit too slow unfolding.)

And that's the way it should be ashes. Football, rugby union or league Aussie rules and grid iron. How can grid iron be football when very little of it is actually played by the foot. Absurd

Fed up with Lazio keep moving the goal post first of all it was 30 mill euros then it was 35 with add-ons then it was 37 now it is 40 plus 25% I can think of more players to spend the money on nobody else seems to be going for him in the premiership don't think even we can afford him, think WHU should stick to their guns 37 mill take it or leave it cos if we find 40 mill Lazio will want 43mill enough is enuf take 37mill or walk away think he looks a great player but there are other players out there. Sooner make sure we keep Rice and get Jack Wheelchair and still have some money over for 1or 2 players. Think the board have done well at the moment but i would not blame them if they walked away from this deal too much wonga Perhaps their is a greedy agent involved as well- there normally is.

Maybe they want West Ham to save the dire Italian Economy. This extra, extra, extra three million may do so.

Seriously, they are only willing to offer Wiltshire a 1 year contract. So he may head to either Everton or Palace.

Apparently, Anderson wants to come to West Ham and has submitted a transfer request. No other club has offered that much for him. Not sure if he is overpriced.

Starting to see a lot more of the "cheapie" connections to West Ham. The kind I mean are Championship level players, whether they are currently or recently in the Premier League or not. Examples: Aaron Mooy, Alfie Mawson, Craig Dawson. These are all £8M-£12M type signings; standard, functional, even good at times. They fit with Fredericks and Fabianski. All told, we could buy a whole team of such players and compete in the bottom 10, and with good managing and some luck on the injury front avoid a relegation battle without ever being too far from the drop zone. Consistent, but not great. I think we can now say goodbye to Anderson, Pastore, Carvalho and any other stars in their prime that we might have been suckered into believing would come. Sullivan will even do his usual "good value for money from the World Cup" thing before this is all through. Plus we might still get Wilshere and Toure. I cannot say how deeply disappointed I am in the lack of ambition shown by the board. Some very good players were available. Even ONE would have been nice.
