West Ham Would Be Dim To Bring Back Payet

It was almost inevitable that at some point rumours of a Dimitri Payet return to West Ham from Marseille would surface, the only surprse being that they have happened so quickly. Of course given the nature of the 31 year olds departure from the London Stadium the thoughts of him returning seem like wishful thinking, but hey this is the crazy world of top class players being paid a fortune with absolutley no concept or desire to show loyalty for even the shortest of periods to the clubs they sign for.

Could West Ham fans forgive and forget? We firmly believe that this is a hypothetical question for several reasons, namely Payet's personal life and the as yet undisclosed events that occured prior to him deciding to leave, we are not foolish enough to go down that road, suffice to say bridges were burnt! As a player Payet is still World class, however he is 31 and can only have a couple of good years left in the tank, in addition his wage demands and the fact that Marseille will want to recoup as much as they can of the £20 Million they paid for him means that a deal is highly unlikely to occur.

Newly installed manager Manuel Pellegrini is understood to have consulted 'senior' players about the possible re-introduction of Payet and they are supposed to have given the move their backing, the only problem with that whimsical image is that half of the 'senior' players will soon be on their bikes either out of the starting eleven or out of the club completely! Perhaps 'El Pel' even asked for volunteers to 'do the right thing' and fall on their own swords, as if?

Everyone loves a good story, and we think Dimitri Payet to West Ham United is exactly that, a good story but nothing more. - Ed

After the shabby way he treated the club we would be stupid to have him back but I wonder how long it would be for fans to start digging at the board for not taking him back if he goes to another prem club and starts producing the goods again........decisions decisions decisions...we need a playmaker and as fred149 says the man is a level or two above what we currently have

Maybe Payet will apologize to the fans and try to make amends for his behaviour.
I think that he contacted a couple of West Ham players just to keep in touch, as usual the media took it out of context and really this has been blown out of proportion. Payet may come out and say that he had no intention of returning to West Ham, and none other than Maurinho will probably go sniffing around to take him to Man Utd. As Marseille failed to win the Europa Cup and hence have not qualified for the European Champions Cup, it means that he may want to be snapped up by a team that has qualified. So West Ham is just a scapegoat for his real intentions.

This could just be a Payet fishing expedition, as torontofan has said. Yes they are all mercenary, it's just a job to the vast majority. If he does come, I hope he does a job. Hopefully we negotiated a 50% sell on when we sold him back to Marsailles, so he will come cheap.

I'm wondering if this is Sullivan typical smoke and mirrors. Anderson deal isn't done, still looking for defensive midfielder... But look over here chaps. The old smoke and mirrors thing works on some fans. I read just the other day fans saying we have had a spendings spree! Fredricks a free, diop, 25 mill and Fabian undisclosed probably between 5-7mill. The rest have been so called offers made but not paid.

Ive supported West Ham for over 50 years. I still think he was one of the greatest talents ever to wear our shirt. A true game changer and we have missed him ever since. Maybe too old now but did we really get all the truth `surrounding his departure?

So JW comes to us on a free, Balbuena, if he is really signed, will have to be a cheap deal for West Ham. Not coming from a major European side, but rather from Corinthians -- whatever else you say, these South American clubs are poorer and will accept deals drawn out over many years and boosted by sell-on clauses. He'll need a work permit, too. So that will be five signings with a probably outlay of about £35M, far short of the £75M promised to El Pel. Can't imagine that we're still going to bring in a single marquee player after this, let alone the creative midfielder we desperately need. If Arnautovic stays and gets injured, we are in trouble. And if he goes, we lack any consistent scorer.

We will have Andy Carroll fit enough at the start of the season, then if he gets injured then at the end of the September transfer window, we can then get a veteran striker free or sign loanee Zaza again until the January transfer window. In January, Zaza's contract will be cancelled and then some reject from Chelsea or Man City can be signed on a new loan. Well, this is what we are all about. Relegation battle........hopefully not!!
