How times have changed!

Submitted by Hammers65 on Sat, 25/08/2018 - 10:42

So here we are again, another saturday at the beginning of another new season....Hands up who is bored of it already??
There was a time when the working week was over & everyone looked forward to the match day,few beers before the game, the buzz of the area,etc...but for me the move has changed everything, ive tried it & its not for me...
We have owners that came in 8 years ago,fed us a load of spin, did a modern day East End slum clearance & weve fallen for it hook, line & sinker imo...
Spent 100 mill, got a "world class manager" & already its a relegation 6 pointer against the arse!!bloody hilarious really when you think of it,i reckon the only real positives are the away games where you still get the hardcore westham support like the old days & they will be singing their heart out today...any other positives people??

The away fans of all clubs have become more vocal and noticable the more the Stadiums become sanitized, away supporters invariably drown out the home support over the course of ninety minutes, it's virtually the same at all grounds with the possible exception of Anfield and a copule of other relatively old school stadiums.

Shes worked tirelessly to get draught beer served throughout the stadium, beer shelves installed & is working 24/7 at getting the athletics track covering coloured in claret & blue, because there is no way she is letting it be coloured blue to resemble the team she grew up supporting!!!

These are very challenging days 65 and like a lot of people I am finding it very hard to keep positive. Today was typical. On holiday in Madeira, watching the game live, when we scored I screamed with joy which upset a few locals, I knew it wouldn’t last and I wasn’t to be disappointed. We did well be at soon as we lost Arnie the writing was on the wall. Arsenal were poor but we were just worse. I just can’t see where the next points are coming from. I thought Wolves looked good and they will love coming to the bowl of misery, they will certainly make s lot of noise. I won’t be there, thank god I have a wedding to go to, that said half the guests will be queuing up to take the piss at 16.50

We have all got to get on with situation we are in re ground and all it stands for. This is me talking, as i have struggled something rotten with the change, and would feel better if we owned the ground outright, and not have to answer to other parties.I will continue to be a season ticket holder, because East London and the club are in my blood, and am starting to feel at home in the pubs at Stratford,as after all the years drinking in the Queens, was a real wrench, whether people thought it was a shit hole or not,i enjoyed it.So heres to many years ahead of supporting this great historic club, with many pints and good times to come.

Yep your bang on 65 ,when I look back at all the seasons ,nearly 40 years since we won anything ,I'm getting to old to keep thinking "this year it'll be different ,this year is our year ",but in all the bad times we still had uppers ,a proper football stadium ,now I think every West Ham fan knows ,now if we drop there ain't no coming back ,looking back on the bad times ,the relgation battles ,to me none of them were worse than last year ,at one stage it looked odds on we were gone .
I can't do another year like last year the bleedin depression every Saturday ,the ridicule down the pub ,the never ending injury list ,I'm just to old now but still where am I to go ,?West Ham has been all I've ever known ,sometimes I think "what have I done to deserve this ?,why did I have to watch the cup final in 1964 the day the fire in me ignighted,it was a lovely sunny day ,why didn't I go fishing with my mates "
Think it might be time to put the cross down and rest for a while

Bloody awful game against Ipswich this year but the crack in the crowd made us forget all about what was on the pitch. Almost missed Arnies goal. I gave up ages ago thinking this is the year. What will be will be. Having said that I no longer prioritise our games. More of a follow from afar. I can't enthuse anymore. I'm not sure it's about West Ham more likely just the game of football. Just isn't worth the time of day. I read someone say it's more of a pantomime these days or wrestling with a pre determined outcome. Maybe that's near the truth.

Yeah the buzz as gone along with our identity for me dave, that was our key ingredient,The Boleyn Ground was a place where generations of a family would spend a Saturday afternoon, surrounded by tens of thousands of friends watching the team they love,No matter what happened at the game, you felt like you were at home. A place where you fitted in and that’s why the ground meant so much to so many people,i'll always love the hammers but not as we knew it mate.

Its got to be the subject of some f0rm of investigation by smart arses somewhere as to the continuing mystery of how certain players transform from adequate, even good players into bumbling mistake riddled ones when they pull on the West Ham shirt? How is it possible for a growing group of so called top rated managers (sic) to purchase or employ others of equal competance to purchase a never ending line of dead heads and money grabbing no hopers? For season after season the stories the same, all change but the song remains the same. I now am of the belief that no one fears us, the thought of playing at the ground in Stratford must be viewed as a nice day trip and a treat for the wags to do a bit of shopping! At the Boleyn the it was always a trial for visitors that was lost by a couple of jokers who seem to have brought the club down to unknown levels. I have followed the club, albeit from afar over the past few decades, since I was a kid from Bethnal Green in the sixties but I now concur that if, as is posible, for us to be relegated I can see no way back. And as for the managers comments of how the fans should support the club through the bad times, well change the times!

Zummerset, you know what it was like around the Boleyn. Just the area unnerved the so called elite. Really was like walking into a lions den. Made players feel very uncomfortable. Then there was having to bus through the tight areas, and on the pitch the fans were just an arms length away from players taking a throw. Far to close and intimate for a lot of pampered players.

Rather than Green St you have a fancy shopping mall to greet you on your arrival, hardly going to get the adrenaline buzzing is it!!;)

Mate lets be honest here. We wouldve set up defensively to nick a point in all 3 games. I appreciate what he did for us. But as I said below, if we wanna move forward as a club giving him 100m to spend is a terrible idea if it even gets spent at all.

Arsenal were terrible? Mate theres no winning with you. We play well must be arsenal are terrible. Defended properly like conceding 4 against them last season? Arnie wouldve played but he wouldve been starved of any service. Tighter against bournemouth? Like conceding 3 against them last season.

It doesn't matter if its a bad arsenal defence, if you dont have a system to exploit it. Would Moyes have made us take our chances? No, because we had the same issue last season. There wasn't that much of an improvement under Moyes defensively in reality. Just stuck an extra body in defence, and hoped Arnautovic or Lanzini created something. All about 38 games, most we'd have is 3 points, in 3 games under him. Difference being over 38 games we'll end up with more points then we would under Moyes, due to less quality in the squad and his defensive mindness.

Cos i cant see any other reason for replacing moyes with him, maybe it suited both parties & moyes was happy just to do 6 months, possibly cos he knew el pel was their first choice? either way its a massive gamble paying pellegrini mega wages, giving him a 100 mil war chest when the bottom line is moyesy was an easier option to continue as he got to know the players & would have possibly bought the players he wanted!!time will tell if it works out

Sorry mate, but if you cant the huge difference in how we keep the ball and attack then you never will. If it wasnt for us not taking our chances and an unofortunate mistake, we shouldve been 3-1 up at half time.

Give it time mate. The argument isn't moot. Its not like we played poorly yesterday. It will come. Lost his first 3 games at city to, and won the league. Palace lost there first 7. Win against wolves, and it will fall in to place.

I get the worries and its a big risk. Unlike some I think the biggest priority this season is safety. We stay up this season, then we can finally look to the future. We can finally put in a long term plan. As you said previously we cant just keep chopping and changing managers with different styles. We need to give pellegrini time, and I think regardless of who was manager this season, we wouldve ended up with a host of new players. Only difference being, Moyes wanted us to spend 30m on Tom Cairney, Pellegrini wanted us to go for Anderson. Think that tells you all you need to know about the two managers.
