The Real Reason West Ham Are Targeting Marseille Players

Despite ostensibly possessing a 'paltry' £30 Million transfer kitty, West Ham United have been linked with a plethora of players, the latest of which is Marseille midfielder Morgan Sanson. The 24 year old previously played for Le Mans and Montpellier before joining Marseille in January 2017, Sanson plays in central midfield at the Stade Olympique but as Marseille failed to qualify for Europe this season after a fifth place finish in Ligue 1, the French side might need to sell some players to comply with FFP regulations.

The former France U21 international played 37 games for Marseille last season, scoring five times and providing four assists, which took his total Marseille goals to 18 and 14 assists in 108 matches. Having previously played 29 times for Le Mans and over 100 times for Montpellier, Sanson is experienced in the French leagues and looks an ideal fit for
Manuel Pellegrini who has identified the need for a new central midfielder as paramount.

Due to the vagaries and differences between the way business is conducted between clubs in the UK and Europe, there is a strong possibility that Marseille still owe West Ham money from the Dimitri Payet transfer, approximately €12 Million according to our sources. This would make the deal a lot easier to get over the line, however those DDoS experts at C&H are saying that their source immediately declared once contacted that “Sanson is certainly not at the top of our list – there’s interest in several.”

That may be the case, however given the current financial plight of both Marseille and West Ham, a deal looks like it may well happen. Mario Husillos, Hammers head of recruitment, is a wily old campaigner and is not going to telegraph his intentions regarding potential targets to other clubs and most definitely not to Weblogs!

With a bit of 'creative' accounting it is surprising as to how much 'paper' money can be generated, at the end of the day no one actually knows exactly how much money is available for new players, but one thing for sure is that the club are hardly going to 'announce' the real size or their transfer war chest, it will just up the prices being quoted. - Ed
