After becoming a free agent following many years as a Real Madrid player, Alvaro Arbeloa is heading back to the Premier League with West Ham. The 33-year-old parted company with Real Madrid in June, Arbeloa has immense pedigree both with Real Madrid and Spain, having won the World Cup in 2010. He was an understudy to Sergio Ramos but featured in the group stage and has amassed 56 caps for his country. Arbeloa started his career with Los Blancos but made his name at Liverpool having signed from Deportivo La Coruna. He cost the Pool £2.6million back in 2007 and played 95 times before moving back to his childhood club of Real Madrid in 2009 for £3.5m.
A cheap fix or a clever mentor for Sam Byram? The jury is out , but he has proven premier league experience and might be a perfect short term solution at right back.- Ed

I'm hoping he's made of the hard stuff and not glass like some of the signing this season...good luck to him

I honestly can't believe some of our fans! I was arguing for about an hour with someone who somehow think Arbeloa is shit and a pointless signing and he'd rather antonio there. Personally think its a great signing. Great competition for Byram, he might be 33 but so is ginge and someone like him who has won everything and played for madrid that experience will be quality for the likes of Burke, Oxford and Byram

he's obviously been taken to help byram develop as a player in for us what had become a problem area of the team....nowadays unless your splashing cash the player cannot be any good......I had a similar argument with a fellow fan as he thought we should of paid the money for iorfa at wolves....another untested kid at prem level would not have helped but apparently I no nothing as the lads an u21 international!

I think he could be a very shrewd addition to the squad heaps of experience and going by his video from 2015 looks to have excellent skills of passing a spreading the ball around I hope we get to see him in action soon .

Here's someone who comes to us on a free, with incredible experience at every level and particularly WINNING. We've got youngsters with a lot of potential and there's no better way to bring them along than to expose them to the experience of a player like Arbeloa.
