Hammers Top Premier League For Wrong Reasons

No, this is not an article relating to West Ham United's unbelievable injury list, a list that keeps on growing! Instead it is about the price of being a football 'mascot', it may seem naive now, but back in the day 'mascots' either wore silly costumes and took part in dodgy penalty shoot outs, or, were selected because they had been ill or because they were randomly selected from the club's 'youth' membership. The BBC, despite employing Mark Lawrenson, usually research things properly, it is to them that we must credit the following information.

Some Premier League clubs still charge nothing for fans to 'experience' a once in a lifetime opportunity, however others do. Unfortunately Hammers are top of the list for 'charging' mascots for the 'experience', in fact mascots, or more realistically their parents or relatives, have to stump up an astonishing £700.00p for the pleasure!

Here is the full list of Premier League mascot prices: West Ham United £700, Leicester City £600, Tottenham Hotspur £405, Wolves £395, Crystal Palace £375, Brighton £350, Burnley £300, Fulham £270, Cardiff City £255, Watford £250, Bournemouth £185. The following clubs do not charge a penny for the 'experience'. Arsenal, Chelsea, Everton, Huddersfield, Liverpool, Man City, Man United, Newcastle United and Southampton.

Surely Hammers 'care for the community' policy should include making the opportunity for 'under privileged' kids to become mascots, as oposed to 'rich kids' always being first in line? - Ed

this is extremely embarrassing. when i see the little girl or boy coming out i assume they've been lucky and got a day to remember. yes they get all that but its due to their parents paying 700£? no blame of course to the little kids but surely to god we don't need to charge them for this?

ten kids at £750 a pop, £7500, club can take the 'excess from ticket exchange' to supplement. On the rare times we cannot attend matches we receive bugger all for high priority games, time the club looked past the short term gain.

Im not surprised. Football at this level is ONLY about the money and many years ago , at least 15, the board found that the average salary of a West Ham fan was £60K which today will be over a £100K so £700 is well within reach of the average.

The only surprise is Chavski is free. I remember in the days of Bates he wanted a grand! Mate of mine contacted him asked for one place to be free for a kid suffering from a shocking illness from a very poor family... naturally Bates refused the charity and the supporters club paid.. typical.

There are much better ways to raise money. Put Suli and his son in the stocks and I would pay £700 to trow rotten eggs at them but I guess the queue for this honour would stretch from The LS to UP :o)
