Trying hard!! Antonio always looks hungry, I hope Pardew is there to look at Valencia. Id take $6m just not good enough!! I'd sub Valencia. First time I have seen Byram play and feel better as he looks good and comfortable. What changes would you make second half ??

Looks the best best for a goal , mind you not unless we get awarded a penalty.

Kouyate and Antonio are linking up nicely. Byram has also started well. Tore and Nordvridt look like a couple of deer caught in the headlights.

Doing alright here, long way to go, Arthur at left back has been very good since he joined us...Looks very comfortable on the ball as do Byram on the other side.

A positive first half for a makeshift team. So far only Arthur of the new signings has impressed me, maybe the other two need a bit more time. Kouyate is doing a lot of work and I hope Bilic has noticed where Antonio is at his best.

Lacking in a striker with a bit of guile... Valencia had one speculative shot on goal and has tried to get on the end of things but its not been enough. Tore's still settling in, he may come good for us but keep him off FK duties...Antonio is starting to remember his old self, he cant be blamed for being off boil. Nordtveit is anonymous but apart from that we are doing okay... just need to get the win here to put our uninspiring pre season behind us

Byrams on thin ice... dont think the first challenge was a bookable offence but two successive fouls could of seen him get sent off

A great victory considering all the injuries. We didn't play great but came away with three points, isn't that the hallmark of a great team? When we are back to full strength we will be unstoppable

Yes correct we needed the points - To be fair though, that was a heavily depleted side, we are missing all of our creative players and it's great credit to a fantastic team spirit and a lot of graft that we've deservedly triumphed...Well done to all!

I'm sure it was a moment of excitement over last season, but when Sully shot his mouth off about how much he would spend on a super-striker that was the end of it. Every agent in Europe started rubbing his hands. Let's hope that's a lesson learned.

and I have never known the collective wisdom of the orgers to be wrong. In this case: Antonio. How often did everybody say that he needs to play as a winger and not a full back? It took so long for Slav to figure it out. I can understand when Byram was injured we needed someone to fill in at RB, but we've been saying all transfer window that we needed cover there because Antonio needs to play up front. Well, now he gives the lad a chance and BANG! he wins the game for us. Crucial victory even at this early point in the season. Don't really know that we could have expected any better from such a depleted side: Payet out, Carroll out, Ayew out, Cresswell out, pretty sure Kouyate wasn't at 100% ... and on and on. Doesn't matter too much now what happens against City, we'll head into the break in a reasonable position. Would like to see us dispatch AG and make it into the Europa group stages.
