i watched england against nigeria. i have to say that to be fair, we look quite good. Southgate to his credit has ditched the rooneys and we've got some decent young talent. Kane, Ali, Sterling look like a good 3 in attack and southgate has shown that he is flexible with his formations. keep expectation low and we might do o.k.

Watched it in the pub,all that excitement is not good for the old ticker at my age!!
What southgate deserves credit for imo is he has instilled belief in this team, under hodgson, etc the team would have folded under the pressure, but not this lot!!Its actually a joy to see an Engand team putting up such a fight

I would rather have rashford,loftus-cheek or vardy instead of sterling & ali. Also when you watch it at home rather than the pub you can probably take in more of the game & analyse it more...

Have to agree with hammer girl. No women commentators! Reporters are ok even certain pundits but commentators on men's games no. As for yesterday, it's refreshing to see an England team that doesn't amble about like they don't care. I reiterate that Southgate has done a good job with ordinary players he also has got a good connection between the team and media and fans. Having said that I still can't get that excited about us. Maybe that's just football in general now. I don't see us winning it. For me dicksy touches on it slightly. Both Ali and sterling have become passengers. Ali has contributed nothing and is letting the team down. Sterling movement is good but doesn't do anything right when he gets it. Kane hasn't contributed enough in the all round game but obviously should stay. We don't have any creativity with Ali and sterling playing this way! Would be better if we had whitshire. I saw Sweden and they are terrible going forward but possibly the best defensive side. Not sure how we can brake down a team like that who are clearly gonna sit back. We won't be able to get behind them, so it maybe up to someone like ratchford to go at them. Personally I think trippier has been superb along with McGuire . Stones, young and Henderson have done well. All better than Kane.

Sterling is more annoying me than disappointing me. He's attempted and failed to go past a single player about 60 times. And nearly everyone of his shots is blocked. His only benefit to the team I can see is his size. Easy to get fouled! Even open goals he's missed despite being offside. Surely missing that has affected him since!! Ali has also been pretty absent from games. Not contributing in the final 3rd where he's meant to be effective and Kane is dropping too deep. If we can't get the ball forward to him he shouldn't be kicking it. He collects it in midfield and looks up to see where he's meant to be making a run and has no one to pass too cos he ain't there!! The rest of the team have done well imo in showing fight if not the quality. Agree with you on Trippier and McGuire, since the 1st game they've been excellent. Walker is a bit of a worry for me too though. At fault a few times and looks like he could make a mistake at any moment where a team with a good forward line will punish the crap out of us.

That golden chance Kane had in the first half to put us two up... anyone other player - it would of been 'Ohhh he has to score from there!' He was non-existant almost oin this match, as was Alli, Lingard and Rashford. And Sterling for all his guile on the ball, clueless when it comes to the finish. The England team has done well this year, but its been down to a largely solid defense and fantastic keeper. I'm gutted we are out, still trying to see the positives. We had an easy run apart from Belgium and Croatia. Honestly thoughr we would win tonight and was happy France got to the final as we would have had more chance against them in my opinion. Yes we've pushed on from our bad form but there will never be another world cup like this again where all the big teams were knocked out Germany, Spain, Belgium, Brazil and all. This should of been our year

Kane went missing (just trotted around mostly), Ali, Lingard, Sterling were too lightweight. Henderson's overcautious play just appalled me. England got mugged. Croatia saw that the ref was letting some really physical play go unpunished (or punished without yellow) and took advantage of that. But England have only themselves to blame -- they did not play physcially in response, nor were they aggressive on the ball. Why play 3 at the back if you aren't going to throw players forward? So much of the second half I saw a sea of black in the box and 2 or 3 white shirts. Croatia's goal number one was a high boot if you ask me, but STILL England should have pressed, pushed, attacked and won. They played cautious and lost. What was it Churchill said? "Difficulties mastered are opportunities won". This time they didn't rise to the difficulty or take the opportunity. Damn -- it hurts. Can't see France losing the final.

never a high boot Ashes. Walker was diving for the ball to head hit clear, he can't dive at 6feet. Weak defending for both goals you ask me and shows the defence need to develop more. As long as they stick together though and do that, there should be some significant improvement for the Euro's in 2020.
