The Hernandez conundrum

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on Wed, 10/01/2018 - 07:42

Sought after by Bilic for two years….he finally gets his man…and then plays him wide left. Bilic goes, Moyes comes in and plays him as the lone striker ala Carroll. I accept Moyes didnt buy him, and probably never would but where does that leave Chickpea? Will Moyes adapt the formation later on and accommodate a 'fox in the box' or will he stick to type and always go with the one up front, hold it up style? I believe that Chickpea and Arnautovic could work together. Arnautovic has shown he's up to the roaming role behind the striker and he could be instructed to look for Chickpea in and around the box. Or does the whole system depend on a hard worker, holder up top? as it stands, Hernandez looks to have lost all hope, probably a lot to do with the Man U connection with Moyes too. But would we be foolish to alienate a player of his quality? He's surely not going to be content coming off the bench all the time. Discuss

Maybe it’s the wrong manager for the players we have? Just get to the end of the season. In fact if it could end now I’d be happy. Go all out for Dyche in the summer and pay tow up top. Simples

Yes because that was then and this is now. He’s the best manager in the league imo. The rest are masquerades hiding behind big budgets. What we do know is our owners won’t spend so he’s ideal. Plus he has a go at other teams. This all out defence is cack, I like his attitude. No he won’t win the league, might have a cup run, but that where we are now. Might bring some kids through too

If you use your comparison of the job the two managers did or are doing without considering the resources, finances, aims and expectations of the respective clubs then you are comparing apples with pears.
Would Dyche do better at a bigger club? that remains to be seen. But based on what I know of the work he was doing at Watford I'd have been happy for him to come to us when Sam Allardyce left as I feel he would have been a good fit.
One thing is for sure, he will be given an opportunity at a bigger club at some point and it will be interesting to see how he handles the greater scrutiny and above all the higher expectation that it will bring.
I'd back him to do well, but until he get's that chance we'll never know.

Betty I hate the way we are playing ATM. Not enough entertainment. Of course none of us really know but I feel confident if Moyes stays on we won't be playing the same way. Whether itl be boring or not is anyone's guess but, he is trying to do 2 things against the odds one is get some points whatever it takes and the second get a good balanced midfield without the players to do it. We all know the midfield is the engine room of a team. They dictate how we play. If he gets the next 2 transfer windows to shape the midfield then we will have a better idea where we are going. That's if Sullivan get him the players he wants! Might be a rumour but I see Sullivan offered 2 mill for arfield and 5 mill for arter yesterday. Does this bloke ever makes a decent offer?

its now being mentioned we are willing to listen to offers for him.....if ever a question needed to be asked its simply why did we buy him in the first place? bilic never played him where he is at his best and moyes just does not fancy him as a player...whoever is in charge of our transfer dealings serious questions need to be asked as to what the plan is as currently its either big names on huge money with plenty to prove but cant be arsed or bargain bucket deals..

Whoever you sign, they have to fit the pattern because if they don't then it will effect the balance of the side. Hernandez was considered to lack the physicality for the English game whilst at Man U, and I have some sympathy with that. But the main issue that I have is that with the exception of Carroll and Arnautovic, most of our forward players are wide players who feed a central striker whilst Hernandez is more effective playing off of a central striker, a focal point of attack.
We generally play with one central striker which is a role that is totally alien to him, so the pattern of our attacking play never suits him and in short, he doesn't fit in.
The best thing for both the player and the club is for him to move on, preferably this month, but if not at the end of the season.

I think the problem lies with Lanzini. Moyes knows Lanzini is more effective in the number 10 role playing behind a striker. Having Lanzini & Hernandez up front together is to lightweight and pointless with 2 wide men swinging in crosses. Hernandez needs to be playing in a 2 feeding off a bigger striker. This would then make Lanzini surplus to requirements unless he was played behind the front 2.

With Lanzini and Carroll both injured, we've got to change tactics. The loss of Lanzini is really going to be felt, but the silver lining to the Bournemouth match is that Arnie and Chicha CAN form a devastating partnership. AND Chicha still has a role to play. Trouble is: who is going to provide the service necessary? DAVID SULLIVAN GET YOUR FINGER OUT!!!

Nail on the head comes to mind ashes ,Moyes would be bonkers to let him go now ,himself and Arnie might be a better partenership than Lanzini

If you don't play to a players strengths then what do you expect? Hernandez is quality and his record speaks volumes, more than one goal every 2 games at his last club and now 1 in every 3 games almost for the Hammers. Absolute rubbish when I see stupid comments about getting rid of him, the same people that were probably happy with Carlton Cole scoring 1 in every 6 games in his last spell at our club FFS! We talk about buying Batshuyai yet his record is worse playing for Chelsea than Hernandez's playing for WHU???

Correct me if im wrong but dont the majority of our goals come from inside the.box ?,there you have it one of the best poachers in the world ,that goal yesterday was lightening reaction

Dickey, you may have a massive trumpet, but before you start blowing it over a arnie Hernandez partnership, Moyes has at least got to pick him and Hernandez and arnie has still got to work! I think your massive trumpet is very premature.

Ok given they were together for a few minutes, but it's hard to convince me that was part of the plan going forward, just an opportunity that arose. Personally I think he may have no option now, but where does it leave our weak centre midfield? If we can strengthen there maybe a chance itl work.

That comment is on the money, Hernadez did not become rubbish over night! You can guarantee that if he went to any other club that played to his strengths he would be a 20 goal a season striker with no problem
