Misery

A lot of what I read on here and see elsewhere about West Ham and football in general is pure misery. Fans continually torment themselves over what is in effect out of their control. Which fans are happy? Real Madrid, Chelsea, maybe Man U? Arsenal fans are never happy, Spurs fans are sort of content but still really unhappy. Then there's the like of Bournemouth or Burnley fans, maybe they're always content because they've been invited to the party. It doesn't matter that they go home alone and don't pull, at least they got an invite. It just see,s to me that football as a sport just serves up misery. There's not much gratification, just for a very small minority. So does the odd beating of Spurs to scupper their title chances really make up for months of dross and disappointment? Or are we so engrossed in this mad football bubble that we actually enjoy all the moaning?

I think the bigger question is why do you keep moaning about people moaning? lol

Its all part of being a hammer,to have a moan now & again,(doesnt mean your less of a fan imo!!)take it for what it is...at the end of the day most of us on here have been following westham for 50 years,it was the same in the 60s & 70s,having a moan but enjoying the good times too....

Err never said that about being less of a fan. I more alluding to the fact I think as fans or even as a nation we enjoy moaning. There's not really a lot for any of us in modern football that really excites anymore and if it is, it's fleeting. If we were top of the league with Ronald and Messi up front, this forum would probably be empty. I just think that moaning and misery, especially about things out of our control seem to be the norm. In political terms we live under a dictatorship, and are fed what they want to feed us. Unless we all revolt, does moaning help us?

about the fact we were sold a dream about our move and being able to compete with bigger clubs transfer wise and yet here we are stalling on a deal for hernandez because he wants £135thousand a week and we are worrying about how other squad players will react to that...well bringing in a player of his quality and ability and paying him that is a no brainer and i doubt to many would bitch about it....but bringing in a lesser striker and paying wages over the top would probably wind players up i dont doubt...so stop making excuses and be true to your words mr gold/sullivan mrs brady...and we will probably stop moaning and Betty can get some sleep

I'd say it's a fans perogative to moan when nothing seems to be happening to strengthen their club for a new season. Especially when the areas that needs strengthening is upfront and they have waited for what seems like an eternity to be solved. Really we all knew that only a very few clubs can win stuff, so we had kinda excepted that until this board ripped away our roots and history of a vision of competing with the top 4, with no sign in their dealings of doing so. Having trawled thro several sites I'd say most reasonable people are pissed because they feel they have been conned and lied to. That's never gonna sit right for large groups of fans from any club.

is it any different to trends nationwide or worldwide? moaning is a pass time. whether its about govt or celebs. thats life. most however moan but are able to detach themselves from taking it all too seriously. I believe football is no different. there is a distinction though with moaning and criticising. if you feel the club is failing to fulfill its promises and say so, are you moaning or holding them to account? and does it really matter?

Of course moaning makes no differance whatsoever, apart from making us feel better. Maybe a release valve situation. I certainly don't get worked up enough to effect any part of my life outside the Internet. This forum is certainly less moany than other forums by a long way. I agree there would be less on here if we had nothing to moan about, so maybe it's one of the purposes of a forum? We as a nation moan or take the p1ss out of ourselves, it what we do to get thro.

I keep an eye on social media and some of the vitriol aimed at Sullivan, Gold and Brady is way over the top!
I can understand some fans frustration but let us be realistic I had not heard of Payet before he signed or Lanzini for that matter but I had heard of Zaza (mainly because he missed a penalty lol!)
Antonio has proved a good signing as has Cresswell and they were both Championship players, Byram as well and he has something about him though not yet the finished article. All 3 would fetch a lot more than we paid for them.
We want the board to go about their business quietly yet papers whether through mischief or pure speculation or clubs/agents letting the cat out trying to get more cash starting a bidding war or getting a larger slice of the cake.
If the club signs Hernandez and pays him the reputed £140k pw how does that make other players (especially a player of Lanzini's ability) feel? would they not be entitled to ask for more?
Maybe the answer is (and maybe the club are trying this) pay a basic with bonus dependant on league finish or goals scored as well as the win bonus, if a player has confidence in their ability surely that would be enough.
One thing is for certain with Sky money and large corporate deals player (via agents) look for a large slice of the pie.
Sadly the Chelskis and Man Citehs with mega rich owners are throwing cash about like confetti and what would happen if these clubs owners suddenly walked? if another mega rich oligarch or oil rich middle easterner could not be found where would they be, in that instance I feel West Ham (at present are better placed).

i don't really agree with this argument though. take away the 'richness' of the owners, the fact is we are a prem league side. we can afford big wages. if mid table sides in spain, italy, france etc can pay big then surely we can do better than them? if we can't afford the wages, then we have to ask for an explanation why surely. we have one of the biggest gates in the league now outside the big four. I'm not even certain but maybe 60,000 is the biggest behind man u. in which case what is the excuse? if we have to pay 140,000 a week for a top striker then so be it. 13 mill is nothing in terms of fee. then if we have to match lanzini;s with it, the club needs to decide if he's worthy, in my view he would be, then give him the same. morale goes up, the quality of squad goes up…its win win. but the argument is always well they are not rich oligarchs etc. lets be honest, this club is making millions now so if we have to grumble over what we pay the players surely something is amiss? the other argument is well payet and lanzini were 'unheard of' so it cancels out the zaza's etc. but its people's jobs to get it right more than get it wrong. if we've never heard of lanzini, the people in the club tasked with scouting must have watched him, studied him etc….so its the same for the flops surely? who watched zaza? who watched calleri? nordveit? who made the decision that these would work out? my conclusion would be that someone failed. we are fans, we are not in the 'know' when it comes to targets but the point is people are being paid to be in the know. so considering this, then what on earth went on last season? we bought a whole load of cheapies on a whim? why? when i heard we were targeting giroud, iheanacho, hernandez, defoe…i thought this is better, this is lower risk and surely identified targets that have been recommended by people in the know. now all i hear is …that one is dead, now its gray…then its jota then its so and so…and finally oh well carroll is fit now….and another thing…if west ham is 'not a good option' to players, another excuse we hear…then surely its down to the board to make it a good option? surely its their job to promote the club and sell it to players? to raise its profile etc? are they doing this? if so where is the evidence? even when we were back at UP, harry used to be able to sell the vision to big name players even if we couldn't pay them big salaries…so is our current manager not up to it too? I'm afraid i had patience with the board but a season has gone now and we're supposed to be settled at the O.S, we've taken in the cash from the season of tickets, the t.v money so now its time to get things done and push us on. not give us excuses, talk big and produce small…its time to simply knuckle down and get it done.

I get frustrated when the board can't even seem to come close to the vision they've been selling us.

is not on.....but challenging them on how things are going is a fans right after all they want our money for tickets merchandise etc...and when they said we had to move to grow to be able to compete well we have moved so now is the time to put your money where your mouth is..of course we cannot expect to compete with the elite and as fans we understand that but we have to be the next level down from that or why the move? they dont even have to pay the rent for the O.S. because of the revenue we get for appearing live on sky takes care of that as well so stop pleading poverty and FFP which nobody ever took any notice off except for us...be what you sold to the fans a big club competing in the top half of the prem .

Great posts dicks and mcbikeman. I know it doesn't prove anything but I hear wolves have bought a midfielder for 16 mill! there are other chumps teams have paid over 10 mill for players yet we bulk at them altho we are supposed to be next level! Obviously price doesn't guarantee anything but price would reflect a players likelihood of quality, if and only if we do our homework.

But i do believe that the board have made a rod for their own backs (like RNI states),last season was the initial move to the L.S so they were given the benefit of the doubt imo....but now a lot of fans are getting frustrated at the lack of investment ,& are questioning the move?which is understandable i reckon!
