Misery

Submitted by Betty Swollox on Sat, 08/07/2017 - 23:40

A lot of what I read on here and see elsewhere about West Ham and football in general is pure misery. Fans continually torment themselves over what is in effect out of their control. Which fans are happy? Real Madrid, Chelsea, maybe Man U? Arsenal fans are never happy, Spurs fans are sort of content but still really unhappy. Then there's the like of Bournemouth or Burnley fans, maybe they're always content because they've been invited to the party. It doesn't matter that they go home alone and don't pull, at least they got an invite. It just see,s to me that football as a sport just serves up misery. There's not much gratification, just for a very small minority. So does the odd beating of Spurs to scupper their title chances really make up for months of dross and disappointment? Or are we so engrossed in this mad football bubble that we actually enjoy all the moaning?

about the fact we were sold a dream about our move and being able to compete with bigger clubs transfer wise and yet here we are stalling on a deal for hernandez because he wants £135thousand a week and we are worrying about how other squad players will react to that...well bringing in a player of his quality and ability and paying him that is a no brainer and i doubt to many would bitch about it....but bringing in a lesser striker and paying wages over the top would probably wind players up i dont doubt...so stop making excuses and be true to your words mr gold/sullivan mrs brady...and we will probably stop moaning and Betty can get some sleep

I'd say it's a fans perogative to moan when nothing seems to be happening to strengthen their club for a new season. Especially when the areas that needs strengthening is upfront and they have waited for what seems like an eternity to be solved. Really we all knew that only a very few clubs can win stuff, so we had kinda excepted that until this board ripped away our roots and history of a vision of competing with the top 4, with no sign in their dealings of doing so. Having trawled thro several sites I'd say most reasonable people are pissed because they feel they have been conned and lied to. That's never gonna sit right for large groups of fans from any club.

I keep an eye on social media and some of the vitriol aimed at Sullivan, Gold and Brady is way over the top!
I can understand some fans frustration but let us be realistic I had not heard of Payet before he signed or Lanzini for that matter but I had heard of Zaza (mainly because he missed a penalty lol!)
Antonio has proved a good signing as has Cresswell and they were both Championship players, Byram as well and he has something about him though not yet the finished article. All 3 would fetch a lot more than we paid for them.
We want the board to go about their business quietly yet papers whether through mischief or pure speculation or clubs/agents letting the cat out trying to get more cash starting a bidding war or getting a larger slice of the cake.
If the club signs Hernandez and pays him the reputed £140k pw how does that make other players (especially a player of Lanzini's ability) feel? would they not be entitled to ask for more?
Maybe the answer is (and maybe the club are trying this) pay a basic with bonus dependant on league finish or goals scored as well as the win bonus, if a player has confidence in their ability surely that would be enough.
One thing is for certain with Sky money and large corporate deals player (via agents) look for a large slice of the pie.
Sadly the Chelskis and Man Citehs with mega rich owners are throwing cash about like confetti and what would happen if these clubs owners suddenly walked? if another mega rich oligarch or oil rich middle easterner could not be found where would they be, in that instance I feel West Ham (at present are better placed).

is not on.....but challenging them on how things are going is a fans right after all they want our money for tickets merchandise etc...and when they said we had to move to grow to be able to compete well we have moved so now is the time to put your money where your mouth is..of course we cannot expect to compete with the elite and as fans we understand that but we have to be the next level down from that or why the move? they dont even have to pay the rent for the O.S. because of the revenue we get for appearing live on sky takes care of that as well so stop pleading poverty and FFP which nobody ever took any notice off except for us...be what you sold to the fans a big club competing in the top half of the prem .

Great posts dicks and mcbikeman. I know it doesn't prove anything but I hear wolves have bought a midfielder for 16 mill! there are other chumps teams have paid over 10 mill for players yet we bulk at them altho we are supposed to be next level! Obviously price doesn't guarantee anything but price would reflect a players likelihood of quality, if and only if we do our homework.

But i do believe that the board have made a rod for their own backs (like RNI states),last season was the initial move to the L.S so they were given the benefit of the doubt imo....but now a lot of fans are getting frustrated at the lack of investment ,& are questioning the move?which is understandable i reckon!
