Moyes and the Future

Saw a piece on the BBC site today about Moyes having other offers. I think he's trying to get out ahead of the game. What he basically said was that he wants to be managing a team that is challenging for Europe, NOT a team that is just trying to avoid relegation. To me, that's a warning shot across Sully's bow -- provide the investment to make West Ham competitive for 6th-8th place or forget about it. A good move, I think. The Board has to get serious about building a competitive side.

Meantime rumours are flying around that the Board are going to hand the reins to Manuel Pellegrini. A BAD move, I think. Pellegrini won the title with Man City, yes. But that's just the faux cred that Sully loves. (It's like velvet underwear.) If Pellegrini was any good he'd have a job with a world-class club. Instead he's making gazillions in China managing, ... who? ... Worse, the culture in China is that players actually RESPECT the manager. Can you see Pellegrini coming to West Ham, setting us up to avoid relegation, and putting up with prima donnas who only put in an effort every third match? Disaster awaits this move!!!

I like the ideas that have been floated by some of the orgers: Howe, Dyche, etc. I don't think they will come. (We should try like mad to lure Howe.) I'm prepared to be realistic and accept Moyes for another season, IF the investment is made. I don't want to see any more overage players signed either!

Your thoughts?

Got to disagree with you Ashes & Dicksy,Pelligrini is a tactician of the calibre of Bielsa, puts our previous managers in the shade.

Fans would take to the Pelligrini style of playing two up front. His philosophy is if a team hasn't got the ball they can't score,so his teams play possession football....how refreshing will that be!!! His preferred set up is 4-2-2-2,but he's not inflexible. He doesn't use out and out wide players ,he leaves it to the players responsibility(defenders, midfielders and forwards) to take up wide positions when called for,so basically he allows his teams play with more freedom ,but his brand is basically attacking football.

All a moot point Essex cause it ain't gonna happen. Just read on teletext, we are interested in pelegrini, emery and da silva (Watford) now who on that list seems likely and who seems like pie in the sky? I'd say the first 2 might have been mentioned by the board even silva would be regarded as too risky by this board. They favour uninspiring and predictable managers like Sam, Moyes, Bruce and pullis. They salivate over managers like that.

The heir apparent to Sir Alex Ferguson; hand-picked. The let-down of the post-Fergie depression continues even under Mourinho, so let's not be too quick to blame Moyes for the job there. Point is, he's used to better treatment and better investment than he'll get from the West Ham board. I wouldn't be surprised if he walked rather than be sacked. We could do better (I think all agree), but the big question is: will we do better? Will SUGO really, finally, do what is required to "take us to the next level"?

If they don't appoint a big name then they can expect more of the same from the fans, because I for one will join that chorus who want them out.We have been promised so much and received so little, fans deserve more .A big name manager with big money to spend shows intent ,but if it's more of the same another mediocre manager funded on piss poor funding ,then they will get everything they deserve next season.

in Benitez contract surely Sullivan will do that after all he wastes that on rubbish second div French players and even more on a championship player who is now up for sale......still I doubt Rafa will come as he would want assurances on money to spend before signing....

Just read pelegrini has agreed a deal in principal. Wasn't that just like Rafa? Just saying. Not at all thinking yeah right, it's nothing to do with season tickets or even I've heard it all before. Just to make that clear.

Sully thinks you can turn a pig's ear into a silk purse just by osmosis. Pellegrini is not going to turn the team around without a HUGE amount of investment.

The best thing about having those 3 in charge now is, the fact they have either got to shape up and toe the line or the pressure is just gona be ramped up more and more gradually. Everyone has their breaking points the stress both fans and media put them under is gona be close to intolerable. So if they maintain their status quo we should put Sullivan and co on "board watch". Watch them as they individually deteriate in their health then ask them if the money was an even trade off?

Hang your head in shame Moyes, for me he has just made a sackable offence. He has stated since he has been at the club no one can question the effort from the players.

I could quite understand Moyes leaving on his own accord. Tbh I doubt he could do better under this board, so to leave on a positive should improve his stock again. He was walking a tightrope when he joined but got to the other end. If he stayed his career under these bozos would finally be destroyed.

Could be exciting, could be a huge gamble. Has he really any better credentials than SB had? What worries me with any managerial replacement right now is, "how is a new manager going to use Arnautovic?" SB wasn't getting much out of him. Moyes did. That is saying something, at least. Admittedly cautious about this change, but whoever comes in has to get the best out of Arnie or we're toast. Also: someone like Fonseca doesn't know much about our Board -- just wait till they find out!

You're right that Moyes did NOT get much out of chickpea. But then we have Arnautovic in his prime, with Chickpea in his fading years. I know who I would put more effort into for the coming seasons. (That said, I think Chickpea has goals in his locker if used correctly.) Your point about some of the managers in the frame being "one and done" is a good one: if they fail, they will be sacked; if they succeed, they will go on to bigger and better clubs. UNLESS, of course, the board invest big, and that is the reason Moyes himself got cold feet. He's in a good position, if you ask me: he did what he was asked at West Ham. There are clubs that will want him, possibly even Everton!

Unless we can prize benitez away from ashley, but it would be like out of the frying pan into the fire for him!!i would stick with moyes for another season or 2,but give him decent money to work with....i get the impression from moyes interview after his contract ended that he is not fussed at all,he will get another job no problem now.i reckon that he has called the shots (wants total control, etc) to carry on & we all know the board dont like that!!

NOTHING would surprise me! But they are saying Fonseca is in pole position. The guy who dressed up as Zorro for his press conference.

Seems to think Stuart Pearce could do it surprisingly. Not saying he's my choice but....

And now we'll get the three ring manager interview circus dragging on: "Unai Emery? OH, missed him by THAT much!", "Rafa Benitez? He had just picked up the phone when Newcastle made him an offer he couldn't refuse!", "Oh, and by the way, Moyes is still in the running ... whoops, got away!" And we will end up with who knows who or you know who, -- someone who doesn't know the team, or have any idea of an IDENTITY, then the world cup, then the transfer sagas and ... Hey, but you know this story.
