Like a few topics in the past, thought I would create this one for the discussion and recommendation of music, bands and albums... inspired by my late discovery of the band 'Porcupine Tree'. I'd been pretty much oblivious to the group who have been around for years and years and the creative force Steven Wilson... Really incredible band and musician, definitely recommend to anyone with an ear for Prog-Rock!

went to see Steven Wilson in january down in Brighton, first time i'd seen him, excellent gig, only realy got into his music in last last couple of years, i'm a big prog fan, love Fish(ex marillion singer) Pendragon, Steve Hackett all the usual suspects, i also have a big soft spot for a Jazz rock funk band by the name of Snarky Puppy, check them out on youtube, seen them live about 4 times absolutly superb live

Like most I like music, all sorts, not really onto prog rock probably the one typ of rock that doesn't interest me. Having said that I think creating a thread that isn't football related has to be a step forward for the forum. So anyone who has a subject worth pasting is ok by me.

is how my other half describes me lol and admit that I don't have any particular music bias I go from iron maiden to elvis to punk etc etc but I discovered a band or what I thought was a band only to find out he's solo artist and been going a while but have yet to be disappointed in any of his songs.....he is very good ..... passenger is the name and this youtube mini concert well worth a look. https://youtu.be/_t-YHzL9M3c

For Christmas just gone, my daughter got me some of those album frames where you can put your favourite albums in. Mine were... 1. Ziggy Stardust - 2. Against the Grain (Rory Gallagher) - 3. Abbey Road - 4. Dark Side of the Moon - 5. Circus Animals (Colds Chisel) - 6. Psychomodo (Cockney Rebel) - 7. Together Alone (Crowded House) - 8. High Land Hard Rain (Aztec Camera) - 9. Make it Big (Wham!) - 10. Live! in the Airage (Be Bop Deluxe). Will need more frames to put in all The Beatles, Cold Chisel, Be Bop Deluxe, Crowded House, David Bowie, Pink Floyd, Style Council, and The Jam etc...

Went to see From the jam last weekend in sarfend,with bruce foxton from the original line-up..cant believe its 34 years since i last saw him play at the very last ever gig by The jam at brighton in 1982...brought back memories i can tell you!!

Didnt get round to seeing them with rick in the band...i used to think to myself can i do this without weller!!There used to be a crowd of us who used to go to see the original jam at school,went all round the country,even to paris once to see them!!i was thinking to myself last weekend its defo not the same without weller, & unfortunately it appears its never gonna happen but was good to see foxton again...

The Weller Collective
Never seen them but a few locals go to see them regularly? Watched a documentary on the Jam a few years back and they were smashing it when Weller decided to call time, Foxton was in bits recollecting the demise and it was sad to see. The Jam classics will live with me forever and a shame I never got to see them live, although I watched the talented Weller at the Royal Albert Hall and he was brilliant.

My first ever gig was The Jam live at The Rainbow Theatre, Finsbury Park May 1979. I was the biggest Jam fan going still have the programme Jam Pact worth a fortune now, mint condition. Support band was Joy Division and The Chords both legendary in my eyes also...happy days

bumped into an old school friend on Saturday and he told me that the Weller Collective had now become the 'Style Councillors', proper in tune with the times of yesteryear!

Glad to say I've seen them all many times live and still play all their stuff now.....

Jess Greenberg why have I
Jess Greenberg why have I never heard of her before! She is definately multi tasking sound and vision! Brilliant effort a song that sounds just as good stripped down with one guitar than it does with full band. More importantly during the guitar break I kept chuckling like a 10 years old as her chest starts bouncing around! On a serious note any other recommended tracks m6? I hate people who can play guitar that well and clean!

Not a fan of Prog at all but what I will say is Steven Wilson has done a first class job remixing/remodelling XTC's back catalogue production wise....Fantastic sound on the three albums he's done already ('Nonsuch', 'Drums And Wires' and 'Oranges And Lemons').

No football for West Ham this weekend. Ashes mentioned that grouo called Low earlier... got me listening to Bowie's album again... 'Warszawa' by Bowie - one of the most haunting and greatest songs of his career.
That track is basically Eno
That track is basically Eno though, apart from Bowie's vocals it really do sound much more Brian Eno than Bowie...It's got his stamp all over the second side (on the vinyl at least, track 8 if your talking CD of course!)
The pick for me is definitely 'Subterraneans' from that album - One of my favourite tracks of all time that one.

Yeah youre right, hats off to Eno - I like the story though of how Bowie picked out some Polish propaganda record from a flea market and then made up a load of mumbo jumbo lyrics and song to try and replicate it. I like Subterraneans a lot too, the sax parts reminds me of the score from some of the low key scenes in Bladerunner between Deckard and Rachel... Vangelis took inspiration no doubt?

'Heroes' side two is also fabulous (thought I'd give that excellent record a mention!).

Had a look at Porcupine tree Andy, very good indeed. Wouldn't be surprised if Pink Floyd were a big influence. More of a Tom Waites, Neil Young and Horslips fan myself. Slash was asked who his biggest influences were, he said Jimmy Hendrix and Johnny Fean of Horslips, he's pretty good.Like your taste in music.
Karnivool
Have a listen to an Aussie band called Karnivool. Singer is the same singer in Birds of Tokyo but they play a harder rock. I've seen them both live and they're brilliant.
