I first want to state this post was not my original thought but comes from comments on a news now post regarding Alex Songs successful surgery on his ankle. Apparently a floating bone was causing problems since Christmas. This might explain the drop in form. Comments included ' sign him now, and get the pre Christmas Song back on our team'. Thought I would bring this topic to our forum for more intelligent thoughts and comments. I tend to agree if this is a routine surgery with a high success rate, don't hang around, get him signed. He has made all the right moves to demonstrate that he wants West Ham.

A lot depends on how big this floating bone was, if it was small I gather the recovery time and future prospects are very good, so sign him up; if it was a large chunk and there had been cartilage damage it might cause worries.

In form, Song is an excellent player, it's easy for us all to call for the club to get him signed up, but it will come with a large financial commitment and will limit who else we can sign in the role. If they do this without being totally certain of 100 per cent recovery we could end up with a Carroll or Ashton situation and everyone will be asking why we signed an injured player
