Cress(not)well!

Being tolerant of under achieving players is part of the West Ham way, if you want to see 'perfection' go and support Liverpool or whoever tops the Barclays Premier League. If you choose to continue supporting West Ham then you have to accept certain unpleasant characteristics, namely there has never for years been a properly balanced squad either at the Boleyn Ground or at The London Stadium, consequently players are often played out of position resulting in inept performances.

However fans in the past and in the future will forgive ineptitude so long as the player has 'attitude', unfortunately one person who has become inept and has lost his 'attitude' or Mojo, whatever you wish to call it is Aaron Cresswell. It may seem a little unfair to 'pick on' Cresswell following yesterday's tepid team display, but he was truly dreadful, so bad was he, his performance obscured and eclipsed the equally useless Ryan (I've forgotten what to do with the ball) Fredericks!

So uninspiring were their performances in defence and attack viewers found themselves wondering why on earth players were passing the ball to either of them in the first place. Hammers hit the bar a couple of times during the two nil defeat, but in reality Newcastle, complete with Hammers' nemesis Calum Wilson always looked as if they could score more, Wilson and his fellow debutant Jeff Hendrick both scored which would have sent fans rushing to the bar, if there had been any fans inside the ground.

We don't generally like to highlight one player's bad performance on the basis that it won't help the situation, but really, Moyes MUST axe Cresswell, he more than any other first teamer has gone backwards and his decline looks very much as if it is terminal. While Cresswell had a bad day, Fredericks just continued to have a 'poor' day, his decision making sucks and we are of the opinion that he could benefit from counselling to help him overcome his 'fear', nine times out of ten he misplaces his passes or receives the ball only to return it to a player who is being closed down by the opposition, it isn't just the odd occasion, he does it nearly all the time!
James Tarkowski, even if he arrives wouldn't make a blind bit of difference at the moment, because until the full back situation is sorted everything else will be like a pack of cards, and the cards Hammers fans are currently being dealt are rubbish. West Ham United are good at setting bad records, yesterday's defeat meant they became the first club to lose their opening match for the fifth consecutive season, thus setting a Barclays Premier League record!

Yesterday's misery was compounded by the fact that the odious Alan (I despise West Ham) Smith was one of the match commentators. - Ed

I’d agree there Nev, Cresswell was head and shoulders poor above the rest of the team which took some doing considering how bad the whole team was, even Rice. Dreading the next few weeks

Cresswell had a shocker. Should have closed down Hendrick & not allow him to shoot. But I would still rather Creswell over Masuaku! The biggest shame for me was Bowen could not get into the game. I would definitely go 2 up top with Bowen partnering Haller. Move Antonio to left & Yarmalenko to to the right. But i think its vital we get 3 defenders this week. To be honest. I would sell Diop if we could still get good money for him. Looks a shadow of the player we purchased.

Why the hell pick on Cresswell ? Have a look at the second goal again and the attitude of Diop. Misses the tackle and jogs along picking his nose and peeling a banana with all the time in the world! No interest in breaking sweat to keep his team in the game, at one nil we still had a chance!

In all honesty, I thought that Fredricks at least should be given credit for something. He had the pace to chase back when Newcastle had a counter attack and held them up, until reinforcements arrived. He at least carried the ball forward as well. All he needs is more discipline and better defending tactics in training. Cresswell, seems to be lost when he goes forward, and then leaves a huge gap at the back. No wonder Newcastle made good use of it with both their goals.

Watched nearly all the matches on DAZN. Worst team is Fulham, with West Ham and West Bromwich next. West Ham will be once again staring at the bottom clubs' performances and results rather than looking up the table. Even Brighton bossed Chelsea for most of the match and were unlucky to be beaten by them. But then to me, Frank Lampard has spent big bucks and some of his signings are like Pellegrini's. Havertz reminds me of Haller. Maybe Havertz has to get used to the Premier League pace.
