Two Down-Eight To Go!

You don't need to be a maths scholar to know that signing two new players is only a drop in the transfer ocean for David Moyes and West Ham when you consider the fact that FOUR key players have left or retired, so FOUR players are required just to get the squad back to being wafer thin!

As one of the TWO new signings was already at the club on loan, the excellent Alphonse Areola who has now been signed on a permanent deal from PSG, it is plain to see that there is much to do for Moyes and head of recruitment Rob Newman.

Annoyingly EVERY player the club shows interest in is instantly 'suddenly' of interest to Newcastle, the newly minted Northerners aren't even going to be restricted by FFP which has been abandoned due to the impossibility of 'policing' it efficiently.

With the FFP 'rear gunner' out of action, things are looking bleaker and bleaker for West Ham as those clubs with 'massive' financial clout will be free to flex their muscles without risk of sanction. Hunting for scraps has long been a Hammers tradition, one that fans had hoped was a thing of the past, but as things stand it looks as if the queue to sign top players has become even more congested.

Where does this leave West Ham? Well, little by little David Moyes has been 'snapping up' youth players from all over the place in an attempt to build from the ground up, so anyone who questioned why the club has been signing so many 'yute' now has their answer, the change to the FFP ruling has been in the pipe line for some time and it seems that Moyes has had to act accordingly.

Not being able to sign players for massive fees isn't necessarily a bad thing, but there is going to be a need for some very creative recruitment if Hammers are going to be ANYWHERE NEAR THE TOP SIX NEXT SEASON! TIME TO GET YOUR THINKING CAPS ON MOYES AND NEWMAN. -Ed

Lingard response is deafening!!!!!! He's obviously waiting for a better offer elsewhere.......

29 years old that means in less than a year he'll be 30..(You have to get up early in the morning to beat me on maths).

So if wages are sensible, maybe it's good business after all. Still a big time Charlie though.

He has just joined as asst coach and i could not be happier if not a bit surprised he has decided to take a step back from the main mans role at a football club.....His wealth of experience and knowledge of the lower leagues is going to be a massive boost to the coaching staff and for Moyes in particular...i also liked the style of football he had his clubs play...Look what he did on a nothing budget at QPhaa and they have seen fit to let him go they are mad who do they think they can get to help them next season? i know a few QPhaa fans(yeah i no they are rare)and they are well pissed off at this.

One other thing about Mark is i am pretty sure he worked with Benny before he left for Rangers if so that may help him get better and be more productive for the team if Moyes keeps him.
All in all this is one addition to the backroom staff i am very happy with.

Irons Still Keane On Lewis-Potter

Not only can West Ham offer Keane Lewis-Potter a route one entry to top flight football, but they can also guarantee the Hull starlet European Football, albeit in the Euro Conference League. Lewis-Pottter and his advisors will have watched Jarrod Bowen's imperious rise through the ranks to become an England International, a feat he would probably not have achieved if he had signed for one of the Big Four English teams, and thought "we want some of that!".

Interest in the 21-year-old is very high, as Lewis-Potter enjoyed a really productive 2021/22 season during which he scored 13 goals in 47 appearances. A number of clubs have been watching the player, with some including Brentford and Watford already mooted to have tables bids which have apparently been knocked back.

Wolves are also said to have been showing interest in the player, but it’s West Ham who are currently leading the race for the promising youngster's signature. The Irons’ interest in the player is long standing, David Moyes and Rob Newman are hoping to tie up a deal in the next seven days for the exciting talent who won Hull’s Player of the Year, Players’ Player of the Year and Supporters Player of the Year for 2021/22.

The only fly in the ointment, apart from the usual 'interest' now being shown by Newcastle and it's board of stone throwers that they show in just about EVERY potential Hammers signing, is the final price. Having seen how much Bowen is now worth, the chairman of Hull City is determined to get top dollar for his club's most valuable asset. He is obviously forgetting that for every Jarrod Bowen there is a Jordan Hugill or Romelu Lukaku outcome, just waiting to happen!

Should Hammers be pursuing Keane Lewis-Potter with vigour? Most certainly yes, should they get involved in a bidding was with the Toon? Most certainly NO! - Ed

Not Another Everton Dud?

Submitted by Louis Nixon on Mon, 20/06/2022 - 17:51

Criminals are often known for wanting to return to the scene of their crimes, David Moyes had an incredibly successful spell as manager of Everton FC, but still seems to like making a return in the form of 'showing interest in' or even buying up their discarded players!

Having recently made one of his rare transfer dealing errors by bringing in and now wanting to get rid of ex-Toffees player Nikola Vlasic from CSK Moscow for an incredibly ridiculous £30 Million plus, Moyes now appears to want to 'bury' himself by signing another Everton dud, this time it is Moise Kean from Juventus.

Kean joined Everton from Juventus on the 4th of August 2019, signing a five-year contract for a fee of €27.5 million, plus €2.5 million in add-ons. The 22 year old instantly struggled with the pace and physicality of the Premier League and was shipped out, on loan back to Juve, the Italian club signed a loan contract for two years with an obligation to buy the striker for €28 million after two years.

Apparently Juve are keen to sign Moise permanently but then want to immediately sell him on, Kean is currently only half way through his two-year loan deal with 'The Old Lady', the Turin club cannot escape their obligation to buy the Italy international at the end of next season for €28 Million.

Now call us suspicious, but something doesn't smell right about several aspects of any impending deal and the club would probably do well to AVOID Kean at ALL costs! The first and most important reason for having serious doubts is the player himself! If he was that good why did Juve sell him? If he was that good why did Everton get rid of him so quickly? and finally If he was that good why are Juve SO desperate to offload him again?

Kean could end up being an excellent addition for the Irons, he is built like a brick outhouse, but plays like one as well! He struggled at Everton but his quality is undeniable and he has youth on his side, but do Hammers need to become Nurse maids in order to bring players in? The answer is an unequivocally No, let someone else take the plunge, Hammers are just NOT rich enough to risk what would be a sizeable fee on a player who has already shown he cannot cut the mustard in the most competitive League in the World. - LN.

PS: Our 'criminals returning to the scene of the crime' reference is in no way intended to infer that David Moyes has criminal tendencies, or has ever been a criminal!

Aga Do(ne)

David Moyes and West Ham have finally got their man, Nayef Aguerd! Despite Eddie Howe and the Toon's best efforts to derail the process, the 26 year old Morrocan International has put pen to paper for a five year deal and is hopefully going to establish a centre back pairing with Kurt Zouma for years to come.

That said, Craig Dawson, Issa Diop and Angelo Ogbonna will all be pushing for inclusion in the match day squad, so the new signing will not be able to rest on his laurels! It has taken patience and a good deal of self belief from the club to get the deal done, especially given Newcastle's style less hijacking attempt, they are only now realising that having huge resources DOESN'T necessarily guarantee players will drop everything in order to beat a path to their door, at least for another couple of seasons.

With the centre backs sorted Moyes and head of recruitment Rob Newman now have to swiftly move on to the other areas that desperately need strengthening, namely at left back, central midfield and of course the massive elephant in the room, A STRIKER!

The latter will be Hammers 50th striker signing since Gold and Sullivan took the club over and as such CANNOT be a failure like the majority of the others who have been and gone under their watch. The club is at a crossroads, which direction it takes will have lasting significance regarding the top six aspirations currently being mooted.

With up to TEN replacements needed they had better get their skates on! - Ed

En Guarde Aga Done!

Submitted by Louis Nixon on Sat, 18/06/2022 - 08:59

Other clubs sign players in what seems a heartbeat compared to all the huffing and puffing usually associated with signings made by West Ham United, however rather belatedly the club have now landed what fans will hope is their 1st Marquee player, soon to be followed by a raft of further additions.

The need for up to TEN players is extreme so Moyes and Newman will have to get a 'hurry up' o in order to make up the shortfall left by the departure of SO MANY players, a new left back, a central midfielder, TWO additional strikers and the firming up of Alphonse Areola's deal in addition to the signing of Nayef Aguerd from Rennes for a fee believed to be €25 Million initially, but one that could rise as high as €32 Million with performance related add ons.

This is just the start of what will be a crucial recruitment process that is being 100% overseen by David Moyes and Rob Newman, fortunately Hammers majority shareholder David Sullivan is experiencing a 'long lost love affair' that appears to have stopped him from meddling in the club's transfer business, long may it last!

Nikola Vlasic is a classic example of making a transfer MISTAKE, Moyes hasn't made many, but the Croatian has just not made the grade in London and is likely to be shipped out on loan, sooner rather than later. However it should be remembered that the exact details of Vlasic's transfer from Moscow are still shrouded in mystery due to the various sanctions imposed on Russian clubs, it is highly unlikely that West Ham have paid anywhere near the mooted £30 Million original asking price, more like a £5 Million down payment with the rest to follow!

Assessing West Ham’s Chances Of Breaking Into The Top 4 In 2022/23

nevillenixon's picture
Submitted by nevillenixon on Thu, 16/06/2022 - 18:34

The 2022/23 Premier League season is just around the corner and West Ham will be looking to build on an excellent 2021/22 campaign. The Hammers finished seventh last season but were right in the mix for fourth and fifth place until the final weeks when their domestic form dipped due to their European commitments. David Moyes’ men enjoyed a memorable Europa League run that saw them crash out to eventual winners Eintracht Frankfurt 3-1 in the semi-final stages.

West Ham will be looking to build on last season with Moyes suggesting his squad are ready to compete for a top four place if they can strengthen their ranks in the transfer market this summer. We’ll have to wait and see who Moyes brings in but the owners have been supportive in the market in recent windows, so if they can land a few top class players then the Hammers could be dark horses for fourth place.

Current odds

As things stand, West Ham are the 12/1 eighth favourites with the bookmakers to finish in the top four of the Premier League next season. You can click here to check out the latest odds and find the best signup offers before placing any bets.

Obviously, defending champions Manchester City and beaten Champions League finalists Liverpool are heavy odds-on favourites to finish in the top two positions once again. Chelsea are backed as the 4/6 third favourites to finish in the top four while Tottenham are 4/5 to come fourth again after pipping Arsenal last year. Manchester United endured a torrid campaign last season and new boss Erik ten Hag facing a tough task to get them back in the Champions League. The Red Devils are 5/4 to finish in the top four and you’d have to be a die-hard fan to back them given the amount of changes needed at Old Trafford this summer.

Arsenal will be desperate to make up for their disappointment from last season that saw them blow a five-point lead over Spurs to finish fifth. The Gunners are priced at 2/1 to make the top four – making them sixth favourites.

Outsiders

Newcastle are expected to invest heavily in the transfer market this summer after finding new-found wealth with the Saudi owners but it’s going to take time for them to be competitive so it’s no surprise they are 7/1 to finish in the top four next year. West Ham are up next, with the Londoners regarded as outsiders to crash the top four status-quo. Moyes won’t mind being branded underdogs and West Ham surprised many with their quality last season. If they can add more consistency to their performances and make the London Stadium a fortress, then who knows….maybe the Hammers could shock a few people next season?
