Worried!!

Submitted by Gravs on Thu, 16/06/2022 - 17:43

Anyone actually worried about the current status of the squad, there's talk of Alese, Baptiste and Ashby going on loan, a few senior players have left already, we have Coventry and Odubeko coming back, talk of Perkins, Longelo leaving.
The way things are going regarding signing reinforcements, all the melee and drama caused by no other than Mr Sullivan unable to sign off, on deals without trying to alter the deal at the last minute.
We have a Europa Conference qualifying round and it's possible we won't even have a squad of 16 senior professionals. Hoping we keep enough players to cover the game, then finding out that once again the Premier League are doing their utmost to start us off with very hard games, hope we actually get the players in on time.

Winny Picks Up Another Injury

Sites like ourselves who have criticised the club for not retaining certain players will be eating a slice of Humble Pie as news has come in of what will probably be a career ending injury for ex-Hammer Winston Reid. A superb player on his day and believe it or not GSB's 1st Marquee signing!

New Zealand coach Danny Hay hopes the team hasn’t seen the last of captain Winston Reid after he tore a groin muscle during their World Cup play-off loss to Costa Rica, Hay said the centre back suffered the injury about 35 minutes into the match at Ahmad bin Ali Stadium, which New Zealand lost 1-0 after a third-minute goal from Joel Campbell.

Reid played on until the 72nd minute, when he was replaced by Elijah Just as the All Whites adjusted following the sending off of forward Kosta Barbarouses. “He said that in about the 35th minute mark, he just sort of slipped on the surface,” Hay said of Reid the day after. “He said he tore it, so he managed to battle through for quite some time, and that just shows what a warrior he is ,“I thought he was immense while he was on, but obviously when we went down to 10 men, it was going to be probably a bit too much of an ask to carry on.”

Reid had been managing tightness in his groin in the lead-up to the one-off play-off, but trained in the days before the clash with Costa Rica and wasn’t visibly encumbered. He has been without a club for more than 12 months but has made seven appearances for his country in that time, as well as three for the OlyWhites at last year’s Tokyo Olympics.

When the All Whites squad was named for the World Cup play-off last month, Reid said he wanted to find a club after the match, regardless of whether they won and qualified, but he will now have to rehab his groin injury as he does so, which could throw up fresh challenges. Reid is the oldest member of the current All Whites squad, turning 34 in July, and with the next World Cup now four years away as far as New Zealand is concerned, the extent of his international future is now up in the air. Hay said: “If I had my way, I'd convince him to stay on”.
Reid is a classic example of a player rushed back from injury too often, but also the victim of a 'freak injury' from which he NEVER fully recovered after falling badly having been knocked unconscious, he was never the same player again! We wish him well in his retirement.

Roll Up Roll Up Prem Fix At 9 AM

The 'old' season has barely finished and yet next season's Premier League fixtures are due to be announced at 09:00 Hrs today Thursday the 16th of June. The season will begin a week earlier than normal on the weekend of Saturday the 6th of August 2022 and finish a week later on the 28th of May 2023.

There will be no games between the 13th of November and the 26th of December because of the ill timed World Cup being held in Qatar. Physios will be having nightmares whereas agents will be buying private plane shares no more as they see their income prospects grow ever closer.
We'll have the list of Hammers games here, as will many other outlets. Who are the first team you look out for now as opponents? There has been a seismic shift in the 'old order' that means games against Manchester's 2nd club for example are only pencilled in the diary as fixtures whereby revenge for poor outcomes must be taken.

At the end of the day it is the games against local rivals Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottingham as well as games against the newly promoted teams that people will look for, how refreshing it will be to see Nottingham Forest back in the big time, it is where they and their fans deserve to be.

Fulham and Bournemouth are going to struggle but have benefited from parachute payments that have helped their early return to the Premier League, it is just that the gulf in class of players will be even more extreme as the cream of European football eye the riches on offer to players who are NOT Galacticas but can still be seen as Marquee signings and without the types of ludicrous contracts that have all but destroyed clubs like Barcelona.

The light might be on well into the transfer window before fans get to see which West Ham will take to the pitch next season, unfortunately it seems that the manager will have very little time to integrate the new players he DOES manage to sign, this is because the club will have to wait in line while the wealthier ones take their pick, but it should be remembered that West Ham are among the 30 top clubs in World Football according to economists!

Having the money is one thing, using it properly is challenging, but not using it at all is foolish. -Ed

Where Will He Hang His Hat?

Submitted by Louis Nixon on Wed, 15/06/2022 - 19:59

West Ham co-owner David Sullivan is most definitely NOT everyone's cup of tea, everything about him is relatively creepy, but he is a GOOD business man, generally! But speaking of General(l)y his propensity for wearing Russian head gear clearly has to stop if it hasn't done so already, the fact that the Hammers current supremo is lining up a Putin like take over of his former 'territory' of Birmingham by installing a puppet owner is clearly indicative of how he sees 'projects of enhancement', never aggressive take overs!

For many Hammers fans the sooner Sully sells up to the 'Kretin in the Sky' in order for the Czech Sphinx to take complete control for the club the better, but as we all know the expression of 'be careful what you wish' has special connotations in the topsy-turvy world of football.

Who is to say that Kretinsky won't asset strip the club and do 'a Bolton'? Or a Blackburn? Or any other club whose's fans looked only at imagery and heard only what they wanted to hear, all of them learned a very painful lesson. It happened with the Biscuit Barons, who were then replaced by the Porn Twins, but at least they didn't come from pariah states that cut up Journo's and stone gays as well as adulteresses!

It has been stated that Sullivan is ONLY going to bank roll £30 Million, about the same amount of money that was required to get a striker and a centre back in during the January window! If and when the Birmingham deal goes tits up, Sully WILL be able to take the club over because it will neatly dove tail to the 2023 cut off point whereby Sullivan and Gold DON'T have to pay money back to the Government from profits of selling the club during the club's tenure. The man Sully is backing incidentally is, Laurence Bassini who has been made bankrupt multiple times and has been involved in controversies surrounding the ownership at Watford, Charlton and Bolton.

Birmingham, Tits up, and Sullivan, a match made in heaven! - LN

Hammers In For A Drink?

Submitted by Louis Nixon on Wed, 15/06/2022 - 09:35

Danny Drinkwater, who signed from Leicester in a deal worth for £35 Million in 2017, is departing Chelsea having not made a senior appearance for the Blues since the 2018 Community Shield defeat by Manchester City at Wembley Stadium. Drinkwater scored once in 23 games for Chelsea and left the club four times on loan spells, with the most recent being for the duration of the 2021/22 campaign in the Championship with Reading. Drinkwater also had stints on loan with Burnley, Aston Villa and Turkish side Kasimpasa.

Players who are available as free agents invariably have some 'baggage' attached to the deal, Drinkwater is NO exception although to be fair to the player he didn't set Leicester's asking price but as a result suffered the weight of the 'transfer fee', not uncommon in modern day football. Rumour has it that West Ham are 'interested' in Drinkwater, but if ever there was a player who DIDN'T fit David Moyes' template for new recruits, then Drinkwater is it.

At 32 years of age Drinkwater is probably wel passed his sell by date and as such West Ham shouldn't touch him with a barge pole, he is EXACTLY the sort of player that David Sulivan and David Gold would have 'jumped on' in the past! "well Chelsea paid all that money for him, so he must be good, mustn't he?" would be the mantra of before, hopefully Moyes and Newman have put a stop to all that, the medicine might be painful in the short term, but in the long run it is the only way to go!

Overpriced but not over here please! - LN

Is No News Ever Good News?

nevillenixon's picture
Submitted by nevillenixon on Wed, 15/06/2022 - 08:37

It seems like an age, but the transfer window has only been open for less than a week and as expected the 'natives' are getting restless as fans right across the country scrutinise every scrap of news they can find out about the comings and goings of players from and to their club, mainly as to where those players they are acquiring come from and how much they cost.

A classic example being Declan Rice, a player who has a knack of being in the right place at the right time, his absence from an England team that put in it's worst performace in over 40 years being a case in hand. The mercurial Hammers captain's value has only gone up by his NO appearance!

So news that soon to be announced signing of Rennes defender Nayef Aguerd who is to have a medical this week ahead of his £25 Million move to West Ham, the 26-year-old centre back has been a long time target of manager David Moyes who had to 'sanction' the board directly regarding the purchase, as a result West Ham increased their initial offer from £21 Million to £25 Million to get the deal for the Morocco international over the line.

The signing of Aguerd should preceed the signing of Alphonse Areola, who despite the stone throwers trying to hijack the deal, is set to sign on the dotted line when his loan deal AND the club's exclusive option to sign him expire. With Aguerd, Areola, Diop and Zouma as the mainstay of the defence, there will be a distinctly Gallic 'atmosphere' in the dressing room, although it is rumoured the club are willing to listen to offers for Diop, which would be a MASSIVE mistake!

The club is still counting the cost of 'letting go' Fabian Balbuena AND Winston Reid, BOTH of whom could have really helped out towards the end of the season, retaining one or both of them might have made the difference between the Champions League and Chumps Conference League!

So be excited by new signings but be equally as excited by the club's retentions! - Ed

Dumb Decisions

mcbikeman's picture
Submitted by mcbikeman on Fri, 10/06/2022 - 22:20

Soucek pissed off Moyes not willing to budge on what the player wants or IMO deserves so if Moyes can get the money he will sell him......meanwhile the misfiring Benni and the disaster that is Vlasic both on more money than Soucek and yet Soucek is the one being ushered to the door Quickly WTF is going on in Moyes head and i believe it is this kind of decision making that could be the end of him......Rice/Bowen could well be on there way this summer if neither are impressed with whoever comes in....but as i mentioned before IMO i see a lot of ex Everton players coming our way....rumours of Keane already started and hearing that Delph and FFs i hope not but Cenk Tosun both available on a free i am anticipating a disaster of monumental proportions coming and it just need not be.

I hope and pray Moyes and co have a few big surprises up there sleeves but this is one long suffering hammer who does not believe it will happen.
