Is Michy Batshuayi worth £35 Million? In the current cash sloshing world of not only the Barclays Premiership but also in the world of the massively rich clubs like Real Madrid and Paris St Germain, not forgetting the burgeoning Chinese Super League, yes he is! Is Batshuayi worth such a huge sum, added to by 10% because of the pound dropping in value following Bwexit (both Woy and the UK), to a club that has just about sorted itself out after years of fiscal distress such as West Ham United, who have been steered clear of disaster and possible expulsion by the financial guile of Baroness Brady and deep personal pockets of David Sullivan and David Gold? There are at least two train of thoughts on this possible massive investment, one is that Hammers have had a terrible track record of spending big (pro rata to the club's wealth) on players who get crocked, the list is endless but Stuart Robson, Dean Ashton, Kieron Dyer, Julien Faubert and Andy Carroll spring to mind instantly! Some say the disproportianate level of their injury bad luck was because of the old gypsy curse supposedly made when a compulsary purchase order on a site earmarked for the non eventual extension of the Boleyn Ground was made, much to the chagrin of the traveller family who had been trading in old reclaimed items from there for ages. An old grandma of the clan decreed that West Ham United will suffer more than their share of bad luck until they leave the area 'stolen by the pound' by them from the family, the club always argued that they had dealt generously with the family and well within the law both morally and legally. Of course Tottenham when faced with a similar situation just get people to burn the place down, so rumour has! A second track of thought is that West Ham United of London is about to become a truly global brand as the club moves in to the state of the art Olympic Stadium along with it's surrounding facilities, transport infra structure and entertainment and shopping complexes. Big money 'marquee' signings do generate huge interest and the image related sales of merchandise can go off the planet in the right circumstances, Hammers got truly lucky with the acquisition of Dimitri Payet, although even he succumbed to the Boleyn injury curse, if he hadn't been crocked mid season by Everton's McCarthy West Ham fans might have been experiencing Champions League football instead of Europa League. The chances of finding another player of Payet's value at the price the club paid, despite having to quickly offer better terms soon in to ensure his tenure, are second to none so the reality is that the club will have to take calculated risks, especially if the co-owners aspire, as seems very likely, to take the club to the next level where it can really give it a go with the big boys but have to come up with the commensurate resources. The recent Premier League season was unique and is unlikely to be repeated, Manchester United and Chelsea cannot possibly have seasons as bad as they both had again, so a top four spot could be seen as wishful thinking, a prudent and pragmatic season of consolidation is probably not what most West Ham fans want to hear, but realistically it is the best course of action, nobody wants to see West Ham 'do a Leeds United', but everybody has the right to dream if they want to dream! -Ed

Haven't seen anything to
Haven't seen anything to suggest he is worth anything like 35 million. Big risk IMO even in the short time he was on for Belgium he showed a bit of petulance, and he definately isnt the finished product by a long way.
whilst i agree with you
I do wish our chairmen would stop banging the drum about buying a top top striker and just get on with it quietly and announce the deal for whoever it is when its done.....and I think that money for batman is a helluva lot so I would take the punt on Benteke not Gomez he's 34 for goodness sake and yes I am going to mention him again britt assombalonga as the surprise bargain front man for us....don't do twitter or facebook etc so if anyone can tweet that name to the sullivans or dg please do so on my behalf
Have to agree with you there
Have to agree with you there mc. I also see some tip assombalonga on another website linked to the sullivans! Thewesthamway. Touted as a one to watch. Didn't realise he was so young! Seen him at Peterborough and def take a gamble as second choice striker. How much? 10 mill plus,I'd say was fair.
seen the lad play
at peterboro on more than one occasion and new nothing about him at the time but he was head and shoulders above anyone else on the pitch and it was no surprise to me he went to forest but a bad injury wiped out last season for him....I think the same amount that got Antonio around the £7million mark would get him and in todays market that's chickenfeed he wont be mugging you off for huge wages either so that's another plus for the 2 daves to notice.
Reminds me a bit of big mick
Reminds me a bit of big mick tbh. But more obviously a forward. In today's market I'd expect him to cost more but should be worth it. Only question mark was how he recovered from a long term injury? What did he have?
cruciate ligament
if I remember rightly think the same kind mears got at Bournemouth and Wilson as well but reports say he has recovered well so really do you roll the dice on a 34year old who will become prone to injury more or a 23yr old who will recover and go on from this.....
Cruciate always a dodgy one,
Cruciate always a dodgy one, think a loan with a view to buy unless he really is as cheap as you say. Can't help buying Gomez could end up the same way as Carroll. No impressed by that at all. I'd personally would be ok with dzeko but not mentioned yet
If So...
O.K. if he is then Payet is worth £70 million.
Seems all the big name
Seems all the big name targets Westham are after are turning us down.I suppose it has to be expected ,Westham cannot offer Champions League football, which is what top players want as well as big money.I like Gomez, the guy is a natural goalscorer, who can play some good football, but isn't he too similar to Carroll? Dzeko is another player I like, another goal machine who has more to his game, but I thought Bilic was specifically looking for pace as well ,which the likes of Batshuayi and Lacazzette have .The club keep prioritising the need for a top striker but I think they are out of reach for now,Westham haven't got enough pulling power. The South American route may be the best place to scout, that really is an untapped market of pure talent, and I think a better deal could be achieved
As usual the orgers are wise
Batman is in no way worth £35M. Don't get me wrong -- he's good. But there are strikers out there at half that price who are as good. I watched a lot of video of him and two things I noticed: (1) he scores a lot by beating the offside trap, a lot like Remy did. He won't be as prolific in the EPL for that reason. (2) His technique is nowhere near as good as Lacazette (just for one comparison). He get's by on pace and youth. Yes, he could develop into a top striker, but it's a gamble. I don't think he will become a top striker at Chelsea, but who knows. Good on the Dave's for bidding the price up and up, at least Chelsea have had to fork over a lot of money for him. Don't know how much they are affected by FFP, though. Big question still is whether WHUFC can land a really prolific striker. This is going to be a super-tough seasons because Manure, Chelski, Poo, Everton, Spurs -- they're all trying to buy big to avoid another season like the last one. The EPL is going to be UBER-competitive next season. For me, if we stay in the top ten I'll be satisfied.
No he's not Nev but
Transfer valuations seem to have taken a major jump again, Troy Deeney worth £28m apparently? Then there is the other Watford forward that has just been subject to a bid of £37.5m!!! European clubs are making higher offers it seems and they are now under pressure from China, as they are talking telephone numbers? At the end of the day it's not what we realistically value players in a market place, it's the idiots with more money than sense that will pay whatever it takes and the mercenaries that chase the buck, despite already being multi-millionaires! Lacazzete is a far better player I'm told.
