The Pellegrini Effect Villa 1- 3 Hammers

First of all, fairplay to Aston Villa AFC for being able to stream a 'live' pre-season friendly involving West Ham United where it was actually possible to actually view the stream instead of the frankly quite suspicious subliminal whirling white wheel that is usually associated with 'free to air' Hammers' games.

Did Hammers' fans just witness a true glimpse of the The Pellegrini Effect, a new era rather than another false dawn? During the first half of the friendly against Villa that was rather poorly attended in person, but viewed by many courtesy of Villa's new owners, West Ham looked and played like a club that had cleverly spent the best part of £100 Million, Villa looked like they had not done so recently.

For brief moments Hammers looked the real deal, all of the new signings on show played with great ability and potential during the first half in particular, this game was a step up from the previous friendlies. The goals from Antonio's splendid solo effort to Arnoutovic's inevitable goal with the addition of a well taken goal by ex-Villa loanee Robert Snodgrass put Hammers firmly in the driving seat, fans wil be asking is the Pellegrini effect begining to take over! - Ed

Impressive result and very encouraging performance from the bulk of the squad. Now if we can replace Villa's name with Liverpool's come August, I'll be over the moon

Antonios goal will hopefully show the manager enough to not let him go...his strength and pace is exactly what we need and even if he is not a starter to have on the bench will give us real depth on the right hand side...him and Fredericks could be a dangerous combo....thought we passed the ball well and when pressed knocked it about quickly and looked good....Villa looked bang average preseason or not they looked off the pace and as there season starts next weekend I would be worried if I was a fan of the club Fortunately we all no there is only one team in C&B to support COYI

What I like best is the cool, calm state of the West Ham 11. They hardly look like they've cracked a sweat yet. Must be gaining in confidence daily.

too early, I felt very good going into a new season before, only to be disappointed but I suppose if we can't do it this year we never will!!

Hate to be a "glass hallf empty "man but all this optimism is dangerous ,seen it to many times before ,2or3 seasons ago when we were goin great with the Payet and lanzini effect I thought this is it ,there's no stopping us now ,and look how that turned out ,yes we're lucky to land a world class Manager ,someone that knows what he's doing and yes we're lucky the board finally saw some sense and released funds to match and we look to have aquired a first rate squad ,but knowing what us lot are like the last thing I want to see after the Liverpool game is loads of posts saying "he was tosh ,and they were rubish "like all of you I can't wait till K O but something inside is saying caution one game at a time

if not now, when? course we can't expect a win at anfield, but we can expect to see better football week in week out, with a higher position in thee table AND crucially continued investment.

burkie, its football mate, not life and death. nothing wrong with being excited and hopeful especially in light of the new manager, new players etc. whats the point in hiding and being worried about 'it all going wrong'? whats the worse that can happen? we get relegated? lol.

Ok ok this is West Ham and early days but I can't help thinking the club is starting to be run properly rather than tin pot. This has to come from pelegrini and the his staff. Read articles saying he has asked to improve facilities at rush green, it looks like from the villa game we have the signs of an identity in our play. The players have been bought quickly and DO seem to have a stamp of real class about them. Be aware that Rome wasn't built in a day so it will take time.

That part of the deal for pellegrini to come was that he insisted on doing things his way...& its about time the board let a decent manager get on with it rather than meddling like theyve done previously,im quietly confident that things are on the up!!
