The deeply hoped for arrival of Hammers 2nd 'proper' signing, Nikola Milenkovic, has been made more possible by the fact that the Serbian gets on famously with Hammers Czech Republic contingent of Tomas Soucek and Vlad 'the impaler' Coufal.

Normally clubs are wary of signing players from neighbouring eastern European countries, due to traditional tensions that date right back to the beginning of the first world war! Fortunately no such tensions exist between Serbia and the Czech Republic, very recently the leaders of both countries met and confirmed their excellent relationship.

Although it is not done and dusted yet, the potential acquisition of 23 year old Milenkovic from Fiorentia is a major coup for West Ham, and hopefully a portent of the type of signing David Moyes is pursuing, young, hungry and lean. Tales of rumoured 'interest' in Gary Cahill and others have had some fans shrieking, while others have chosen to bury their heads in the sand as the transfer window draws inexorably nearer to closing.

Although principally a centre back, Milenkovic is also an adept right back, a quality that won't have been missed by David Moyes, and standing at a tad under 6'4" would obviously a superb addition to Hammers already potent dead ball strike force that topped the Barclays Premier League in such situations.

Of course Tottenham or several other clubs might try to 'snipe' the deal, and even though they don't really need the player, don't put it past Aston Villa from putting a bid in! If Milenkovic CAN follow Areola to the London Bowl, then 40% of David Moyes's recruitment drive will have been met, leaving just the small matter of an additional left back, a midfield enforcer and then the 'Mammoth' in the room, a 'proper' striker! - Ed
