Barclays Premier League Footballers have a predilection for buying expensive sports cars, and the players at West Ham are no exceptions, but what is perhaps relevant is that Hammers players tend to crash their's more than others!

Michail Antonio has just joined Diafra Sakho and Dimitri Payet in the 'crash a Lamborghini club', fortunately the 'beast' was neither at fault nor rendered incapable at the time of the crash and has been able to join up with the rest of the squad for the crucial Boxing Day match against London rivals Crystal Palace.

Obviously players are entitled to 'invest' in high profile items, after all they earned the money to pay for them, and to be fair it should be remembered that all Premier League clubs are legally bound to pay their players in the UK and not to off shore bank accounts, consequently 50% of their earnings go straight to the treasury.

However, in these difficult times, and especially as a footballer at a club that is not doing so well, perhaps it would be more prudent to use a 'driver service' to get around rather that an ostentatious sports car, the enhanced situation would have the added bonus of the player and club not having to worry about consuming the odd drink or two around the festive period.

In America high profile sports people have contracts that they are made to sign excluding them from driving themselves around for the duration of their contracts, isn't it about time clubs did the same in England?

It would serve two purposes, to ensure the safety of the players, but also to fend off resentment, that said, if Manuel Pellegrini can motivate his players enough to earn three points at Palace fans won't care what they are driving! - Ed

when buying one of these high powered cars it was compulsory for the selling company to give driving lessons on how to handle them .I remember when i passed my motor bike test on a villier's 200 and then brought a 650 triumph twisted the accelerator and nearly shot off the back of the seat in so doing, did my first wheelie very scary at the time but taught me to respect the new power !!
