How much and who

Just wondering how much will need to be spent if we stay up and who we need to replace. We definately need a decent replacement for Hart, a couple of decent backs, a decent defending midfielder are definately required. I suppose it will depend on who we sell and how much money we get before the tightwads buy anyone. Must stay are Lanzini, Masuaku, Rice and Auto but I can see Chicherito going as he wants more game time and he is probably our best chance of getting some decent money. Others that need a serious look at moving on are Kouyate, Byram and possibly Reid unless he is happy to be a bench player. As much as Collins loves the club I can't see him getting a new contract so no money for him and even though I will probably be crucified for saying it but Noble will probably be another on the bench more and more next season. The one that worries me is Antonio, he has been prone to a lot of injuries over the last two seasons which will put him in the do we keep him or sell him. Carroll is a definately sell for me, I think someone said his contract has one year to go and I for one don't want to see him collect another small fortune while in the sick room for another season, with a bit of luck we might be able to find a club that will pay a couple of million for him.
So looking at it seriously what sort of money do we need the two Dave's to spend. If we can somehow get say Twenty million for players we ship out I believe replacements of quality players to really give us a fair chance of a better season the club will need to spend at the current ridiculous price of players that will be on the market with what we get would be upwards of forty million. Will they spend or will they go for cheap options and free players.
Interested to know the opinions of people on who should go and who should stay.

Cheap isn't always bad;

We could plug some holes with some quality cheap players and then splash out on 1 or 2. My business would be as follows....

(In)
Sam Johnstone GK - 5 million
Ryan Fredericks RB - Free
Jack Wilshere CM - Free
Jamal Lachelles CB - 15 million
I would then try a statement of intent purchase up front with a 30 million striker.

(Out)
Hart
Collins
Byram
Fernández.
Kouyate

Hopefully bringing in at least 30 million from those sales, and Collins and Hart clear 160k off the books per week.

It's going to be a tough summer but the free transfers we should look at should be the right ones! 25 and English, not 32 year olds looking for a last payday.

and there are a lot off decent players off contract at the end of season but with our owners would we be an attractive option. I might be dreaming but I would like to see us have a go for Rushford, not getting a run with Manu so I would try to use get him either on loan or use Chicherito plus cash and buy him. I see we are being linked with Drinkwater but I think Chelsea would want to much for him. For me Iwould like to see us keep Super Mario as he is getting better and better.

I agree with you on the last 3 but id be weary about getting rid of ginge hes been a great servant to the club and i rekon theres another year in him ,
Hart deverves further analysis after his last performance. You can go from number 1 to shite overnight

You saw that one coming didn't you? Calamitous error for Crouch's goal. In front of Southgate too. He must be inconsolable in the dressing room.
Thank god osteo came on and lasted the 4 mins we needed. Wasn't sure he was gonna make it! Probably needs another two weeks of training to get to 50%

needs replacing....keep rice of course but the rest have been shocking gk's as well so theres over £80/90million for decent players for a start..the midfield need shaking up with moyes still keen on cairney I would add maddison from Norwich those two would give us legs in the middle of the park something we are lacking if they went and added drinkwater as well then nobles days are deff over...Snodgrass/kouyate/obiang deff move on let Snodgrass make his loan at villa permanent...striker wise if anyone is stupid enough to give us money for carroll snatch there hand off chicarito will move on so striker wise we are going to have to work hard....and the board have got to stop putting lazy bids in for players if we want them put in a proper bid not an insulting one...personally I think they will go for Evans/Rondon/chadli from WBA as all of those have relegation release clauses and hearing on the radio that Rondons is not £16million but £8million I think our board will be falling over themselves to get him in.£200million just to keep us in the division needs spending minimum but they wont do that and I keep saying it but they will moan about how hard it is to get deals done during the world cup and if players do well in it then prices get over inflated etc...anyway its a problem for the summer and as fans all we can do is sit and wait and of course dream of decent players not donkeys coming in

If it was me, id sell Kouyate, Byram, Snodgrass, Hugill, Burke, Samuelsen and Oxford, Evra will be released, and give ginge another 1 year extension as his influence in the dressing room cant be under estimated. Buy two new holding mids, an attacking midfielder, a winger, a right back and two new center backs and a striker

Not at all this is where the problem lies. Our expectations are to high. There are good players out there who can be bought for good prices. If you do your scouting correctly and get in early and dont piss clubs off. Rondon for example for 8 million is a fantastic buy. Lanzini we bought for 8 million. In recent years our best transfer business was when we started looking for value for money players that were a good age and can improve. The last 2 years we have changed this and gone for more known players who cost alot more and this is why we have struggled.

Its about being realistic, its a crazy over inflated market!Rondon is one player that would be a half decent buy,but im not convinced we would get him for 8 million though, imo a few clubs like us in the bottom half of the table would be in for him too...I dont believe there are many bargains to be had,we may get lucky on a couple of additions from the chumps but its never nailed on that they can step up to the prem

Masuaku was bought for 6 million last season. Ogbonna we bought for 10, antonio for 7, Cress for 4. Zabaleta has been solid and was a 'free' . Its not about looking for bargains, its about looking for players that clubs are willing to sell. We need to stop looking for big names and well known names and focus on trying to actually build a team based on a chosen style of play.

The expression "build a team" is where it all centres around! It's not about price or wages. Just build a team with players that only fit the remit. If that's a free transfer fine but also if that is a 40 million player so be it. As long as they are all fit the puzzle. Sullivan needs to forget his football manager game he is playing and leave the players needed to the men who know better.

Exactly Red neck. That being said i dont think we should be spending 40 million on a player yet unless its a striker who guarantees us 20 goals a season

40 Mill isnt the going rate at all for a 'good'. Liverpool bought Salah for 38 mill and hes world class. The problem is we go after teams like stoke and swanseas best players, who command huge fees because we piss them off. Again its about doing your scouting correctly. Im not saying we shouldnt buy a player for 40 million DITM but im saying if you are you need to make sure your buying someone who is guaranteed to settle in, and do his job like a 40 milion player. For the amount people go on about Carvalho, spending 40 million on him is way to big a risk for a club like us, espeically considering the fact clubs like arsenal have scouted him for years and decided not to buy.

had thoughts about that for a long time and I wonder if anyone actually does that anymore? I have seen moyes at various games checking on players he is said to be interested in so is he completely hands on and trust his eyes ownly when it comes to signings because scouting nowadays seems limited to agents putting forward players names to clubs along with a glossy video of them in action and decisions made on that alone...does anyone actually check on a players ability in the flesh anymore? and not just once or twice but over a period of time? I have my doubts....and I agree the club needs to really stop buying NAMES for the sake of it actually look for players we can afford and who can add something to the squad apart from a massive wage

While I dont think many managers go scouting players themselves like Moyes, most other clubs have a good scouting network in place and have scouts go all over the place and watch players ,multiple times etc.. problem is in our situation we sacked our head of recruitment. Yep buying names like Ayew for 20 mill an 100k+ a week when I can guarantee theres better out there for less

Thats the benchmark for a bang average prem player these days & no way will sugo pay anything near that!! bargain basement buys, loan deals & freebies me thinks!!

The amount of new players we need is frightening! Even if we had a Russian oligarch at the helm rather a porn Barron at his helm et. I agree that cheap isnt always bad but they are always more of a big risk. We may have to go with good honest players this time. Drinkwater is probably up Moyes street but at over 100,000 a week probably not on. As for lachelles I'd say Newcastle will want over twice that much. To some up we will be in a similar position next season. This all started when Sullivan cut the size of our squad to pocket the money, leaving us to have no contingentcy plans.

Sullivan didnt cut the size of the squad to pocket the money because our wage structure is around the same level if not higher. The problem was Bilic didnt know how to manage a big squad. Didnt know how to deal players being unhappy to be on bench etc..

Can anyone actually see Sullivan paying that kind of money for anyone? This is the problem: while the terms of business for top players have changed, Sullivan still has a £10-15M for a top player mentality. Not going to happen that way. Yes, there are some good deals to be had, and we should look for them, but only along with opening up the purse strings. Otherwise, what we do have, we won't keep. Believe it or not, we aren't a long way from 5th-6th. Next season I'd be very happy with 9th. But those European places are available, with spending and shrewd recruitment.

Nope I can't see it ashes. And yes Sullivan thinks he can get world class players for peanuts. Even more so after payet.

I can seeing us maxing out at 30mill for 1, maybe two players if you look at what we paid for Ayew and Arnie recently. Added to that it will be players in the 7-15mill max provided they have some proven pedigree which at those prices requires good scouting for players that would need to have been identified and monitored for at least the two years since we moved into the Stadium.
Make no mistake there will be a fair amount of grumbling to come over the summer, thank god for the WC, or maybe not with every half decent performance by some unheard of having the masses screaming at the board to get their wallets out! It will be slow paced though and we'll probably still be carping on come the start of next season. Add to that the animosity that exists between board and fans and we could be on the back of the red tops almost daily! (Sully ,that was daily, not Christian Dailly wanting to be resigned!)

to make a big deal out of paying big money for a marquis signing needs to be knocked on the head...with proper scouting there are some very good players to be had and as a fan I personally don't judge a player on the amount we have paid for him I judge them purely on there football ability so they should stop trying to be the "look at us and how much we can buy players for" and be more astute in there dealings after all as fred has said there are bargains to be had you just need to be brave and go get them

Its like they are trying to appease the fans by broadcasting how much they are paying for someone,(or just trying to sell season tickets on the strength of it),then in the next breath hes saying shelvey is useless!!Id have so much more respect for them if they just kept shtum..
