New stadium..

Submitted by Hammers65 on Sat, 10/09/2016 - 18:55

Thoughts on the new stadium??im throwing it out there to mainly the season ticket holders & others who have been to a few games...
I know its early doors, the team have been pretty dire & negative press regarding stewarding etc...
But do you really feel that its a good move??
Me ive only been once (& it pains me to say this) im in no hurry to go back!!ive never felt like this in 50 years of supporting the mighty hammers, lovely stadium & all that but is it westham??

Same here 65 ,haven't been yet and to tell you the truth i dought if i ever will ,when you remember uppers and the incredible atmosphere this place doesn't come near ,i was in the stay camp but i hope all this negativity doesn't materialize into somethingmore unimaginable because even at this early stage if this goes tits up it will be the end ,and the dildo brothers will go down in history as the greedy fukers who signed our death warrant

People talked about this. The new stadium is far from being "HOME" yet, and other teams will come in with an even chance and a desire to show off. From what I've seen so far the atmosphere is nothing like the Boleyn, the running track is and will be a downside, and the whole thing just doesn't feel like West Ham. Problem is, if we had stayed at the Boleyn, there was no future -- we'd have been a yo-yo team, and probably eventually headed for anonymity. There is still a chance we can become a standard Premier League team in the Olympic Stadium, but I do feel the bubble has burst: we are not Manchester or even Tottenham (agh it pains to say it); it's going to take years to get where we want to be.

PS: Did the Stewards clamp down on the Watford fans too? They seemed to be having a good time!

I've been to 3 games now. For the 1st 35 minutes today the atmosphere was awesome. 2nd half, if no Watford fans, you coulda heard a pin drop. I truly believe it's up to the team to create the atmosphere and make it like home.

As I am some distance away living in the frozen wastelands of Caledonia my only experience (apart from the self-guided tour) of our new "home" has been live matches on line! I am deeply concerned by the behaviour of some fans and I know it is not only our fans acting up. I know many of our fans still yearn for The Boleyn and it will inevitably be a while before it really feels like home for fans and players alike, but let's get real here Stratford is our new home and there is no going back and some need to get that into their thick skulls.
Fans have been asked to remain seated now we all know that is not always possible as emotions take over and naturally you get out of you seat as you get caught up in what is happening on the pitch, booing Karren Brady when she came up on the big screen does us no favours and makes our fans look like morons especially as I don't remember "kids for a quid" (for example) before her arrival. We have use of a stadium that has proved a sore point to fans of other clubs and the jealousy is obvious. But it does seem that a number of "supporters" seem keen to cause disruption and have an "I'll do what the bloody hell I like" attitude and once ignoring the owners request are quick to turn on those very people once either forced to sit or eventually ejected ... put simply "we were warned in advance" and those warnings are constantly repeated. No point spitting out the dummy and disruption off the pitch does have an effect what happens on it and despite a somewhat capitulation fans storming out on the hour mark will not exactly inspire the team, the players need backing and if they have to play for 90 minutes the least the support can do is see it out. Those though who are so keen to disrupt are purely an embarrassment IMHO.

I didn't leave early but saw plenty go at the time of the 5th but disallowed goal, frankly Plaistow the atmosphere was pretty edgy being close to the away fans and people got feed up with the Watford fans (yes ...Watford not one of the big clubs) taking the micky, the thought of staying for more humiliation and embarrassment was too much for some folk. I don't condemn them for leaving, the blame sits square on the shoulders of Byam (just not good enough for the Prem) Ginge (past it and had a shocker) Reid (no idea), Adrian (just an off day) and finally Bilic for not recognising what was happening and making no effective changes!

I honestly believe Byram will come good. Seen alot of flashes of ability but inconsistent. Got to remember that he was playing for leeds last season and they were playing him further forward due to lack of wingers. Arbeloa IMO will benefit him greatly

And I haven't 'sat' in my allocated seat for fear of being evicted. you can completely walk around the whole ground, so i find a standing area, yes i am one of those idiots that create an atmosphere, as the popcorn eaters and tourists are making it like the Emirates.
The seats, view, toilets are all fantastically new and shiney, giving you a very not so football stadium feel ( very sterile) How i long for a chat and a beer at half time watching the replays and having a sing song. The stewards are all young Muslims, that have no experience of football, or care. We have visited five pubs so far around the ground to try and find a 'Duke' the jury is still out. the surrounding areas and the lack of police, is a ticking time bomb, no segregation, plenty of outside space, and female stewards wearing head scarfs, wont stop the fighting that will inevitably happen. We have had a lot of bad press about or fans and i can honestly say that considering ther have been 55k at each game its a minority, which is spurred from bad administration. I am a stander and I have been put with sitters. for me its friction before i have allready entered the ground. I am guessing there are also sitters put in with standers. simple. To my knowledge, there were Romanians at the astra game in the east stand giving it large, so one got a clump, There were fans being threatened with eviction whilst singing bubbles just before kick off. There was a group of Bournemouth fans who attacked an old chap, and they also got a pasting, At the Watford game, West Ham were getting evicted for standing and the Watford fans who also were standing, were giving it. that's why the line was breached. I was also at the Man u game last season, were there was 100k fans on the streets from 4pm, so to drive a bus through them is asking for trouble. even the west ham coach stopped and the players walked part of the way.

A ticket swap is a must, sitters with sitters etc. then the internal fighting will stop.

The stewards need to be reinstated, inc 007 and Mr Moon, I got in at the Watford game without showing/swiping my card and stood the complete opposite side of the ground!

With this much friction internally, the away fans need to be protected or kettled as a full blown 'Off' is on the cards. Guaranteed.

Popcorn should be banned from the concourse and replaced with Tvs

Attendances will drop, real fans will stay, or we will become the Emirates. only the board who have done a fantastic job can change it.

Good post, I dont agree with all you say but its good to have another view. Personally im a sitter and I am very fortunate that pretty much all in our area are the same. I feel sorry for the guys that wont to stand and this should have been considered, It needs sorting as a priority.

I've been lucky to get to go to 3 home games at the OS. IMHO I think the OS is a fantastic place.

The DK euro game we cocked up on the traveling side driving to Enfield lock, missed the train by 5 mins and had to wait 45 mins for the next train, we got to the OS with 15 mins before ko so looking around was a no go we were in the BML, the view wasn't too bad when everyone was singing in sinc, it did make the hairs stand on end, which it should do with over 50,000 there. 3 days later ( Juventus ) we drove to Epping ( a lot better ) and had a good look around, this time we were seated in the TBU, and the Astra game ( TBU ) all three games we were lucky there was only a hand full of ex ( euro ) pats so crowd trouble wasn't an issue. The thing that pissed us off was the walking back to Stratford station. The 1st time we went via the RHS of the swimming pool and near the station was sent over a bridge only to come back on our self, plus the stop start issue didn't help. remember this is without any hard-core away fans that want to get to Stratford station with you. the last 2 games we took a different route and ( I thought it was quicker ) going via the LHS of the swimming pool, it was a more direct route.
I haven't a Scooby whats going to happen when the Mancs, Spuds Chelski & the Gooners come to town, It's going to take time for the fans to take the stadium to heart, and they will, but my concern, is the away fans scenario, I hope the board reads some of the comments on the social media for the sake of this great club...
