A Period of Mourning

I may be the only one but the Spud v Pooh Champs League final is, in my eyes, a true disaster for football.
Here we have, outside of their own fanbases (and possibly inside too) two of the most despised clubs in World football.
The arrogance of both sets of fans literally makes me want to puke and Barcelona and Ajax have conspired to make next months final a nightmare for me.
How can two clubs that were so far from being Champions of England last year contest a Champions League final? Liverpool's form this season has been nothing short of remarkable and for that they can I suppose be applauded, but the Spuds? Come on. Their form in the run in has seen them handed a lifeline by not just Manchester Utd but also their NL neighbours. They're not fit to lace the boot of most of Europe's powerhouses but have somehow (very generous refereeing) made it to the decider.
I for one, won't be watching as from this weekend's EPL finale I will enter a period of mourning for English/European/World football. I'm sure many like me will be doing the same.

I'm actually not a fan of the prem, pretty much nailed on every year the top 6 (apart from leicester)...we all can't stand most spuds & the hubcap nickers but 2 "english" teams in the final. 2 days ago they didnt have a hope in hell of getting through, credit where credits due imo

I go along with that 65, hate both teams but I work for a German company that gives me grief on Brexit, footie etc so kinda makes a change. We could have an all English Europa League final with two London clubs... nightmare!! It also highlights that need for the Billionaire to drop by, we are a big club but still in the shadow of three clubs in our own city!!!

by the way... will both finals remain exclusive to BT Sports????

But isn't the C.L final normally live on ITV?But funnily enough my closest mate is a spud (about the only unarrogant one too!!) He's already said to me "You watching it down the pub with us then!!"

I agree with you 65. I wanted Ajax to beat spurs sure, but at the end of the day im not an Ajax supporter either lol. I do think though that both ties were a wonder to watch. I only watched part of last nights match and the Barca v Liverpool first leg first half. looking on sky sports website to see firstly the miraculous win for Liverpool and then spurs repeating the feat just beggars belief. one moment both sides are dead and buried next they are in the final. so fair play to them, they have done it with 'lesser' squads than the likes of Barca, Madrid etc and that to me is a credit to them. not sure about everyone else but it is actually refreshing to see the money laden likes of Madrid and Barca being spanked for once. I see them as the 'arrogant' ones tbh.

oh and loved to see Suarez telling everyone how he wasn't going to celebrate after the second leg when Barca obviously go through because how he loves Liverpool etc....hows that going for you Luis? lol

I have to say I despise both teams greatly and for different reasons. As a child of the 60's and 70's and being brought up on the Keegan and Toshack era and into the 80's in South East London. I hated going to school with glory supporters (Liverpool) I could never understand how kids could support someone they could never see play. In those days travelling was pretty much non existent. But because they had no heritage family wise they just supported a team that won all the time. Nowadays where you come from means nothing in terms of supporting a team. Man Utd well and truly killed that ethos. My Grandad was a keen Fulham supporter and on my 5th birthday he bought me a football kit, in those days they came in a box. The year was 1968 and it was a West Ham kit, popular I'm guessing after 1966 and all that Moore, Peters, Hurst. The rest was history I've been a Hammers supporter for 50 years. The point I'm making my hatred for teams has waned greatly as I enter my old age although Spurs and Millwall were both up there during my hooligan days. Football is a business, loyalty means nothing , players are mercenaries (with the exception of Noble). I could not give a monkeys who wins, but it would be good to see one set of fans suffer a loss and all that entails afterwards. You see, I'm still a bit bitter and twisted......Ha Ha...

yeah, taking it as a given that city win on the last day, that means both spurs and Liverpool go into that final either to get glory or to be the 'almost' ones again. Klopp has been questioned over his final loss record and poch has been cited as bottling the big ones. for one of them, greatness beckons...for the other doom.....well which one will it be lol

I know exactly what you mean Boogers, around the same time, being an Ilford boy,and my Father getting me a West Ham shirt,is where it started, not like nowadays supporting the team that is up the top,and they don't even know where it is,its the shit society we live in now im afraid.

Growing up in east london/essex I remember 3 of my class mates were Leeds fans?? Yes I know it was unheard of,but cos it was the early to mid 70s these 3 were glory hunters even back then, soon as Leeds were shite they all conveniently decided to support the spuds over night!!

Interestingly enough, my son who is 32 a lifelong Hammers fan (obviously) Ha Ha, went to school with our next door neighbours son, who was in his class. His family were Palace supporters through and through. Then one day without warning he was suddenly a Chelsea fan much to his dads bewilderment and disappointment. Funny how it went hand in hand with The Chelski revolution - bloody muppet!!!

born a hammer. Granddad, Dad, brother, sister, all our kids and now grand kids... West Ham through and through... family! Sisters son supported Liverpool for a couple of years but rejoined the fold, saw the errors of his ways... family, belonging ...more important than chasing glory

Sugar thinking he's some normal fan & trys to banter like one...when he was chairman of the spuds he knew f*ck all about football, nothings changed!him & sully are 2 of a kind, should just stick to the business side of things

Spot on dave, what else is hilarious,he claims to be a die hard spud fan but when he was chairman he had no ambition with that club, that's why teddy Sheringham walked out on em,nearly a decade that prick was there and he wouldn't give a blind chicken a worm, and he's got the front to give it the biggen, even most spud fans cant stand the tosser, and it looks like we are going down the same road with sully as you say 2 of a kind mate.

He was always whingeing about "karlos kickabouts" as he put it,he couldn't stand football but owning a football club suited his over inflated ego...then all of a sudden he crawls out from under his rock cos the spuds are in a final...total knob the geezer
