The Transfer Budget: Who We Can/should Sell and for How Much Realistically Come Summer

Submitted by fred149 on Sun, 31/03/2019 - 20:00

Coming off the back of another loss, I think for most, its become quite apparent as to why we've been battling relegation the previous few seasons. Players that I believe we thought were good enough but just under performing its turns out are just not good enough, and whilst we have 4 or 5 good players, and while pellegrini isn't blameless, i'm sure he expected certain individuals to be better then they are. So with a rumoured £25m starting transfer budget, I like most felt like this was way lower then what it should be. However looking in to a bit deeper, you can start to see why. Previous season we didn't really sell anybody, just loaned players out this along with the fact we pay many players silly wages you start to realise that for a club with our resources we have a lot of players on our books. So as the title suggests, who could we sell and how much realistically. In my opinion we need a mass clearout, was thinking along the lines of: Arnautovic £30m, Oxford £10m, Snodgrass £6m, Masuaku £6m, Obiang £5m, Ogbonna £5m, Hugill £5m, Byram £3m, Cullen £3m, Sanchez £2m, Perez £2m = £77m

All seem realistic enough, maybe under priced a few and over priced a couple others, but you never know with this market. If that was to happen and you add it all to the budget you have circa 100m to spend again and thats without taking in to consideration that Carroll, Adrian and maybe Zab are all leaving on a free and Edi Fernandez comes back off loan aswell. We have a lot of deadwood!

If you look at the names, DITM yes it is. Byram, Hugill, Oxford and Cullen all out on loan so havent been part of the team anyway, Sanchez i'm not really sure why we signed him so your essentially selling 7, Arnie wants out, and the rest all fringe players or players that arent good enough. This shouldve happened in the summer and the next to be fair so maybe it is asking a little bit to much, but they all need to go if we want to progress. Lets be honest, could another youngster do any worse then the likes of Obiang and Masuaku currently

Ship out all those you mentioned and bring in a few more of the kids to first team squad whilst adding better quality if we can find it....too many times this season a lot of those players just not interested in putting in a shift it cannot continue....even so it will take a magician even with £100 million to get us to that magical next level

This is it mate, all well and good saying the likes of Obiang and Masuaku are good squad players but the truth of the matter is when ever thye've been called upon they've played terribly. Our squad management is terrible, name another team with 4 strikers on there books all on like 90k+ a week

I dont think we should sell 11 players and sign 11 players. As I already said mate half them players havent been part of the squad all season. There not good enough.

if we managed to ship 11 out it does not mean we would need to get 11 in Dicksy....problem is we have too many bang average or injury prone players on big wages...hearing Sanchez/perez on 6 figure weekly wage is eye watering along with wheelchair who is proving the liability we all feared he would be carroll who thank god will be gone this summer and like him or not chicarito on huge wages and the now waste of space Arnie for some reason given a huge pay rise we are in trouble trying to ship any of them out because of that....sanchez/perez/carroll/Arnie all need to go..chicarito wants to go back to Spain fine.. obiang and masuaku to go as well it would help get the wage bill down to a more realistic amount and El Pel and his offsider need to learn and the board as well that we have to stop buying players with injury records and putting them on stupid wages and stop buying "Marquis" players to make themselves look like a big club and placate fans....lets be a little more realistic this summer lets Look to our Academy for some of the answers not all of course but some....defence/mid/att...all need attention and with allegedly little money to spend except for £25million+ what can be generated through sales the manager is going to have to squeeze every last drop of knowledge he and his staff have of players for the money he will have and the board have got to be hardball on wages and stop Lumbering us with deadwood other clubs want shot off.

except for saturdays starting line up!...he has like many managers had good times in the transfer market and some bad....his decision on wheelchair was always going to be one that could blow up in his face..Yarmalenko a fantastic buy but the injury curse strikes again as was Balbuena and young Diopp...Sanchez and Perez well thats when you think what? and on huge wages of course thats not up to him he wants the player the club decide whether they can afford them and wages and when no fee involved suddenly huge wages demanded now if these were quality players you think mmm ok but lets face it they were only ever going to be squad players at best so then you have to question the boards acumen in that area, his decision to keep snodgrass who put the effort in preseason and for most of this seems a reasonable one to of taken and i think he will be there next season but only as a bench warmer if he is happy to do that...so of course it takes time to clear out the squad and get what he wants and being prepared to give some of the young Academy players a taste of the first team can only be beneficial in the long term....this summer is going to be an interesting one but you know me Dicksy get Assombalonga in and i'll be happy:-)

Having seen the team v Everton I can't help thinking he put some of them out there to give them their last chance to change his view of them. I'd like to think they gave a clear answer to manuel. Trouble is a lot of our team think they are now on holiday.

Manuel Lanzini Age at end of contract: 27 Current salary: £50,000 per week Possible summer resale value: £30m (Two-year option available for extension)

Robert Snodgrass Age at the end of his contract: 32 Current salary: £40,000 per week Possible summer resale value: £6m

Carlos Sanchez Age at the end of his contract: 34 Current salary: £70,000 per week Possible summer resale value: £1m

Javier Hernandez Age at the end of his contract: 32 Current salary: £140,000 per week Possible summer resale value: £10m

Arthur Masuaku Age at end of contract: 26 Current salary: £40,000 per week Possible summer resale value: £8m

The total value of these players could be as much as £55m with £340,000 per week in wages which accounts for £17.6m of the annual wage bill.

Lanzini i feel we must keep yes he has not been at his best since his return but come on after such a serious injury is anyone surprised? a full preseason and back to full full fitness i have no doubt he will come good and so it would be daft not to take up that two year option as for the other four cheerio boys i'd say its been fun but this girls no liar COYI
