Defensive 'Don't' Work!

Ultimately Freiburg 'got away with one' in last night's Europa League game in Germany. The penalty that 'never was' given being a source of much frustration for fans and those within the club.

However the fact that so much hung on a penalty that was contentiously denied is a classic example of why 'Moyesball' doesn't always work.

Setting your team up with a vast distance between defence and attack for a massive European game beggars belief, especially from a manager of David Moyes experience, but the serial defensive man did exactly as many feared and played for the draw!

In football you get what you paid for, in this instance Moyes paid tactical peanuts and got ... fill in that which you think suits best.

Last night represented a golden opportunity to progress in a tournament that has the glittering prospect of Champions League football for the eventual winners, sadly on last night's showing Hammers will more likely be looking at Championship football! - Ed

Ironically, if we had come away with a 0-0 last night. I think most fans would say it was a professional performance. Never going to set the world on fire, but just about adequate.

My comparison of Freiburg was that of a mediocre Championship side. A Sunderland or a Watford maybe. Mid table semi comfortably positioned in the league!

There keeper was dodgy as. One good save for the cameras from Bowen. But other than that a defensive rick ready and waiting. We should have tested him more. But thats not the Moyesball way.

They didn't look like scoring. Until of course (skippy) Zouma, did his usual "I've forgotten where I am again" moment. Akin to Alzheimer Joe Biden.

The penalty was stone wall. But as it dragged on I could see it was not going to be given. The Ref had to back himself, obviously an ego maniac.

Ultimately, we should stick at least 3 past them next week. Without reply I should hope. However, with Skippy Zouma in the heart of the defence, I would not bet on it...But I'd certainly ask big Ivan for the odds!!

We had two goes at beating Bristol City and could not manage that so was last nights result a shock? not for me or many others.....I hope this wakes up the poison dwarf and stops even the semblance of a thought as to giving this dinosaur a new contract.

Can anyone see the tactics changing in the next leg? Thought we were lucky to get a win there earlier this season if I'm honest.
