Finally common sense prevails, West Ham United manager Slaven Billic has seen the writing on the wall and confirmed what just about every West Ham fan on the planet already knew, Chadwell Heath is a training ground from the dark ages and that the club need to move their training to Rush Green, home of the development and youth teams! Based on real experience of the place, we can confirm that Chadwell is like a cast iron leaf spring compared to an adjustable carbon ceramic damper when it comes to location and facilities. As we have banged on about before, it 'beggars belief' that an incredibly well assembled squad of multi million pounds worth of talent trains on the modern Premier League equivalent of a turnip pitch!
To be fair, most of the recent catastrophic injuries have been sustained on the pitch during a Barclays Premier League game, but the injuries to Manuel Lanzii and Winston following on so soon will obviously draw attention to the issue that needs to be addressed. Next season West Ham move in to one of the most iconic and best football stadiums in the entire world! Surely does it not make sense to back up that facility with a training ground that is commensurate? Imagine how new or potential new players feel when they arrive in the underwhelming little road that leads to Chadwell, and their horror when they see the 'deluxe' bijou portacabins as they enter the training ground?
This article is not meant to detract from the fact that the co-owners of the club, Messrs Gold and Sullivan have backed their team to the hilt financially, and that they do have to rob Peter to pay Paul on a regular and unrelenting basis to keep everything afloat, but even wise men can sometimes not see the the weather for the stormy seas!
In the great scheme of things, the additional investment required to bring Rush Green up to a decent standard one year ahead of when it was originally scheduled for seems small potatoes in the bigger picture! - Ed
