Where Would Lingard Fit In?

jesse lingard to west ham, where would he play?

Obviously with the transfer window opened, the speculation thread mill has gone into overdrive with rumour versus counter rumour, none more so than the 'never ending story' of whether Manchester United's Jesse Lingard would return to West Ham on a permanent basis, following his incredibly successful loan spell during the second half of last season.

Lingard HAS been badly let down by his parent club on his return to Old Trafford, promises of more playing time were initially dashed by Ole 'gonner' and then compounded by Ralf Rangnick as Lingard's plummet down the Manchester United pecking order has been perpetuated.

During his loan spell at the club players openly refered to Lingard as Moyes's pet, more clandestine names were given to him such as Moyes's love child, such was the esteem the Hammers manager held for the Manchester United midfielder. It seemed a foregone conclusion that Lingard would return to West Ham sooner rather than later, as a result Moyes decided on bringing Nikola Vlasic to the club at some considerable expense.

Moyes has integrated Vlasic into the team incredibly cautiously, but he now seems willing for the Croatian to step up to the plate in the absence of Said Benrahma who is off playing in the AFCON competition that is scheduled to run for SIX weeks.

Hammers need for a striker is like a scratched record, as is the need for a good left back as well as a decent centre back, the ONE area of the pitch that Hammers have cover in abundance is MIDFIELD, with Pablo Fornals, Alex Kral, Manuel Lanzini and now Nikola Vlasic ALL competing to fill two slots, so where would Jesse Lingard fit in?

Something would have to give in order to accommodate Jesse, however IF he arrived EARLY during the January window, playing him would only risk putting one nose out of joint instead of two, the problem being that one of those affected most by Lingard's selection would be Vlasic, who has just been 'brought to the boil' in a similar fashion as that was done to both Jarrod Bowen AND Said Benrama.

Of course it can be argued that ANY club with genuine top four or even top six aspirations, HAS to have a squad capable of playing on ALL fronts throughout the season and therefore signing Lingard would be a prudent bit of business that could pay for itself, if Hammers WERE able to gatecrash the top four! - Ed

We have been living with the never-ending Lingard saga for what seems like forever and I have written him off more times than I can remember, before changing my mind once again.
Having given plenty of thought to a Lingard transfer, I finally concluded that Lingard is a special player who is not only able to perform at the highest level, but he is also an effervescent personality who is great for team spirit.
Being at the business end of the season, Lingard is the type of player I believe that we NEED and I fully understand Moyes's reluctance to give up on him.

Would he want a guaranteed start most of the time! Not going to happen imo & vlasic has been patient & deserves more playing time.If we do go for him I wouldn't pay more than 10 mill & he would have to prove his worth, personally I'm not fussed either way!

I think no one 65 deserves a guaranteed start, only form and strategy makes that determination.

P.S. Have you got a ticket for Sunday? The BoM will be rocking, no popcorn in sight... 9K Leeds fans coming, will be tasty!!!

That's what I like about the philosophy at the club at the moment,no one is guaranteed a start, apart from maybe Rice!! Not going mate Sunday, family commitments but I'm sure will go again soon, enjoy mate

Vlasic is coming good now, he looks full of pace and desire and a bit of a unit. He clearly loves the club with his goal celebration. Moreover has been patient and not whinged one bit about his playing time.

Lingard will go to Newcastle, so I'm not even giving him any airtime.....

Its a no brainer for me. Jesse is one of the best players I have ever seen in the claret and blue. A true professional and more importantly A GAME CHANGER. Vlasic and Fornals are good players that dont even come close to this lad. If we are serious about top 6 he's a must.

"incredibly successful loan spell? I don't think so. I'm guessing the last 6 or 7 games where he slipped off the radar and was a virtual passenger has slipped your memory.

16 games, 9 goals.

month of April 4 goals.

yes, no goals in May but fair to say the team also slipped. It happens, look at the Beast this season, 7 prem games without a goal.

Buy him,we need players like him,a massive game changer,he can change the dynamics of a game quicker than any one we have now, which is the difference between a draw,a win even no points at all,a must in my opinion.
