The Better He Plays The More We Pay!

Jesse Lingard's phoenix-like re-emergence was officially confirmed last night as the Hammers star 'commanded' the pitch for England on his return to international duty, albeit against minnows San Marino. Unfortunately Lingard's performances for club and country have served to confirm what a good player he is, consequently his 'bad' parent club will be licing their lips with regards to the price they will be able to charge for his services.

The 'annoyance' that there was no option to buy included in Lingard's loan deal means that Manchester United will appear to hold all the aces, however, the player himself has made it abundantly clear that he sees his future away from Old Trafford, with West Ham being his preferred destination.

When the superb forward arrived at the London Stadium, he was an unknown quantity who quickly showed that all the time that he had spent away from the Mancs first team had not been wasted, and that he was actually as fit as a fiddle! Before he scored his brace against Villa on his Hammers debut, most observers thought that if he did OK, then he would be available for around £12-15 Million.

That £12-15 Million valuation has been blown out of the water by Lingard's tremendous performances, and consequently his value has surged to between £20-25 Million. The better he plays the more likely it is that another club, possibly Leicester City, might move in and 'gazump' the Irons for the 28 year old's services.

Obviously Hammers don't want to get in to a bidding war, the club's only trump card is that the player looks very happy at the London Stadium, he seems to get on really well with the rest of the squad and has a manager who believes in him. He might ask himself "would I have got called up for England again had I still been playing with the reserves at Old Trafford? and the answer would be most definitely a NO.

Like most modern day Barclays Premier League players, particularly the 'elite', Lingard is a wealthy man who has looked after his investments, the need for money is quite often offset by the desire to be happy in what is, after all, a very short career.

Finally, would Jesse lingard walk straight in to Manchester United's first team? Again the answer is no, a certain Bruno Fernandes, among others block his path. There is of course always the old chestnut comment " I want to go back and fight for my place" but lingard is older and wiser than that, and it is to be hoped that he will become a 'happy hammer' permanently this Summer. - Ed

I'm sure we always play San Marino and Serbia and Montenegro - it's like shooting fish in a barrel, a set up so we can go on to play Belgium or the like and get our backends handed to us

If we could get him for 20 -25 mill, then i think that is worth it,we know what we are getting we have seen it,and he is young enough to give us a few years, think of the money we have spunked away away on dross over the years......Dare i mention Haller, the biggest waste of all,Anderson aswell really.

I think so - like you say, known quantity, he's enjoying his football! 20-25 Mill justified spend based on the impact he's made

I fully expect us to fiddle, fart around. Get gazumped and miss the boat. Negotiations need to start now with all parties in agreement. So come the end of the season, he becomes our player. No option to buy clause will be ironed out this way. Utd aren't silly they don't want him. So if we do? We pay up. Jesse is happy, we are happy, Utd are happy. Everybody else can Jeff off.

That manure are so heartened by his displays for us and now England that they are set to offer him a new contract.
Playing poker with us or him who knows but i would just not pressure him he knows we want him he knows if fit he is a shoe in every week but if he feels he can still show manure that they are wrong to discard him then fine i will not be angry he has been a great addition to the squad no doubt and he would be a lovely permanent addition if we signed him but as the song goes Que Sera Sera

Man Utd loanee poised for ‘sensational return’ and new deal
Date published: Saturday 27th March 2021 10:37 - Joe Williams

Jesse Lingard West Ham Man Utd
Jesse Lingard could reportedly be on his way back to Man Utd in the summer to sign a new deal despite rumours he was likely to sign for West Ham.

Lingard joined the Hammers on loan for the rest of the season in January and has hit the ground running at the London Stadium.

He has scored five goals and provided two assists for his West Ham team-mates in just seven Premier League fixtures, leading to a call-up for

Lingard played in England’s 5-0 victory over San Marino on Thursday, contributing an assist and being declared man of the match.
And now his form could see him return to Man Utd as an important player with The Sun claiming that the Red Devils ‘are open to a sensational return’ and could open ‘talks over a contract extension’.

The report adds that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been ‘hugely impressed with his performances, and is a long-time fan of the 28-year-old despite freezing him out’ with Lingard only having a just over a year left on his deal.

His recent displays mean Man Utd ‘could be willing to offer him a new three-year contract’ with the Premier League giants interested in keeping his ‘transfer value high while also being able to get him back into Solskjaer first-team plans.’
It was understood that West Ham were looking to seal a deal between £15m and £20m in the summer but now Old Trafford chiefs would want a lot more for their winger.

Meanwhile, Lingard last played for England back in June 2019 and Gareth Southgate was pleased with his man-of-the-match performance against San Marino.

On the Man Utd loanee, Southgate said: “I thought Jesse was excellent.

“First of all, really pleasing to see him playing football, enjoying his football, playing with a smile on his face.

“We know the qualities he has. We gave him his debut 50 games ago and why did we do that? Because he’s a player that technically is good, passes and moves, has intelligence in the positions he takes up.

“He works incredibly hard without the ball to pressure and to win the ball back.

“So, in the main, my first thought is how lovely to see him back playing at the level that we think he can be.”

The lad has come on loan and fulfilling his contract even exceeding expectation. If he returns to a great contract then good on him. He will always be welcomed back at WHU in the same way as Tevez etc. That said I hope we buy him but not at the expense of losing Rice.

If this continues, Man U will definitely raise the price, if they don't want to take it back. I hope we will make it. 20/25 million is a good amount, we will avoid wasting money as has already happened.
