The Hammers are set to embark on a journey that consists of the final nine games of the season, a set of fixtures which will kick off with the Hammers taking on Manchester City at Home and ending against Leeds at the London Stadium too.
West Ham captain Jarrod Bowen recently came out, suggesting that West Ham ‘don’t want to rely on other teams’, but the reality of the situation is that it is required and very much needed to help the Hammers.
The fact of the matter is that at this given moment in time, West Ham are the best ‘in-form’ team amongst the relegation candidates, but others are doing enough to maintain a gap. At Gameweek 21, the Hammers had 14 points, now at Gameweek 29, Nuno’s side has managed to double their points tally. Amongst the chaos and good form, a game of chance lies ahead, given some of West Ham’s remaining fixtures…
Amongst the nine remaining fixtures, games such as Manchester City, Aston Villa, Arsenal, and Newcastle all still need to be played.
The victory against Fulham not only helped West Ham close the gap, but it also bought time for the upcoming fixtures. West Ham will be playing Manchester City amid both their Champions League games against Real Madrid, and then we are set to take on Aston Villa, who are struggling for confidence as well as suffering from an endless list of injuries.
The crucial fixtures that West Ham will have to focus on are Wolves, Crystal Palace, Everton and Brentford - They will be the vital fixtures amongst the storm as they are ever so slightly more favourable than what other relegation candidates are set to face during those gameweeks.
To add further fuel and chaos to the fire, let’s not forget that on the final day, we are set to take on Leeds at home, but more importantly, Tottenham have still got to go and face Nottingham Forest as well as Leeds themselves, which is crucial for West Ham! - Football is a game of ‘if’s’, but in this instance, someone is guaranteed to drop points, and that’s exactly what Nuno’s side needs to bolster our survival hopes.
For those who are interested, in the Gameweek that Tottenham play Nottingham Forest, we face Aston Villa away, and for the weekend that Tottenham play Leeds, we face Arsenal at home.
This relegation fight could very well come down to the final day, but considering the amount of heartstrain Hammers fans already face, it certainly wouldn’t be ideal.
