Not everyone's cup of tea on here I know (eh burkie) but for some of us who follow the horses (not always successfully though eh darren) this is the creme de la creme of horse racing and I can't wait for the action to get started.

The best horses facing one another with the best trainers and jockeys on board. Oh and the little fact it will be APs last ever festival.
Got to say I'm looking forward to this festival and will be posting my thoughts about the week on this thread and for what it's worth, my picks for a few races too!
Feel free to share your thoughts and picks too. Best of luck to you all.

wonder if you ever stop to think what happens to the vast majority that dont make it , thousands of race horses must be produced to get one champion , for those lucky enough to survive the " green covers "( a sight we never see on are tv screens ) nothing awaits but a life of misery and abandonment , dont feel to bad nt the same thing happens in dog racing , only difference is dogs are much easier to get rid of , mostly a cliff or the local dump will do nicely

Burkie 1

nt_hammer's picture

Think about them a lot Burkie. As you may know I've been around race horses all my life and know a fair bit about how they are 'treated'. Come across enough trainers and jockies to know they are well and truly looked after and cared for. My father is also heavily involved with a charity that rehabilitates ex race horses with more caring owners. Some of the most looked after animals imo. Much better treated than certain dog breeds or other family pets.

Hi nt, work emergencies precluded me from betting for a couple of days - probably a good thing! however, today the Bookies will eat well again as I'm back! and I note I've got almost the same as you - sorry mate!

Haha, we can't half pick a nag can't we?! Conti looked well out of the big race today but fair play to Coneygree. Won it well.

I started well this week but seemed to have fallen away as the festival progressed. Oh well, enjoyed myself yet again, although it was not a vintage year this year, there were plenty of highlights.

Back to the Saturday bets and footy coupons now. Until Aintree comes round next month that is ;-)

Joy on the first then my wallet was opened up like Katie prices thighs.
Oh well.
Still love the thrill of the occasion.
Roll on Aintree. I have better form on the national for some reason. Famous last words lol

It was only his 4th start over fences bpool. He has less experience than the rest in the race and many questioned him being entered to run in the first place. For me it is a great win as he comes from a relatively small yard and a trainer who has nowhere near the money and resources of the big boys. Think of it like an MK Dons winning the FA cup - essentially a giant killing!
