Deadline Discomfort - Two Signings Confirmed

As discomfort is part of life, it’s not pleasant to deal with in the moment, but when all is said and done, it’s back to normal, and that’s exactly how it feels to deal with the transfer window.

West Ham United left their business late, something that’s becoming a common habit, and confirmed that two signings had been made, making it a total of nine incomings this transfer window.

The two incomings ended up being Morato, a centre-back from Nottingham Forest, as well as a last-minute deal for Adama Boiro from Athletic Club. Both deals are loans and include an option to buy.

Morato, who has joined West Ham on loan for the season, was originally bought from Benfica by Nottingham Forest under Nuno’s reign back in 2024 for a fee of £12,000,000. The defender has made 47 league appearances for Nottingham Forest, and under Nuno specifically, he was used as a tactical substitution the majority of the time, perhaps an indication of what he could become at West Ham this season.

Last season at Nottingham Forest, he made 21 Premier League appearances, starting most of them, but more interestingly, he had his success in their Europa League campaign, where his performances earned him a slot into the ‘Europa League team of the season’ despite being knocked out in the semi-finals to Aston Villa.

Morato has received a lot of criticism whilst at Nottingham Forest from the fanbase, and has been labelled as their ‘Achilles heel’ - which perhaps suggests why he’s accepted a loan move away, but plenty of times the Hammers have signed their ‘flops’ and they’ve turned out to be better than expected; let's hope it’s the latter!

The second signing, Adama Boiro. The Spanish left-back has also joined on a season-long loan deal with an option to buy from Athletic Club. He’s 24 years of age and stands at 6’0 foot tall. He has been labelled as another attacking defender, similar to Malick Diouf, but is said to have better defending skills. He enjoys bursting forward to help the attackers but is also ranked highly amongst La Liga defenders for his tracking back and interceptions.

By no means is Adama Boiro our first target… in fact, he was out last, and the information on him is minimal. He appears to get the job done that he’s been set out to do, nothing more, nothing less.

West Ham needed to secure a left-back as well as a centre-back and ultimately did end up achieving that. It went right down to the wire, but all is now said and done, and the club are expected to go into the free agent market. Reiss Nelson initially was considered an option, but he has since finalised a move to Feyenoord, leaving that avenue closed.
