Hammers Back Off Due To 'Insane' Digne Wage Demand

West Ham United's interest in bringing Everton's Lucas Digne to East London has ended almost as soon as it began due to the player's 'insane' wage demands, it is believed that newly minted Newcastle made an offer that Digne's agent has set as the ball park figure for his client to agree to a move to ANY interested parties.

The agent is obviously living in cloud-cuckoo-land if he expects a relatively high-flying club like West Ham who can pick and choose players, to match the offer of a desperate, albeit extremely wealthy, club like Newcastle who are embroiled in an intense relegation battle that they have no guarantee of surviving despite their enormous wealth!

It is believed that Digne requires a salary of just over £135,000 per week, which would make him the highest paid player at West Ham, a situation that would inevitably end up causing disharmony among David Moyes's squad and one that should be avoided.

The extreme need for a left back has slightly dissipated due to 'encouraging' news regarding Aaron Cresswell, while the full extent of his injury has never been made public, it is believed that Cresswell underwent minor surgery to flush out the bone fragment that had been dislodged as a result of the player colliding with a goal post as he stopped a goal bound effort in the game against Man City.

Even IF Cresswell is given the go ahead to return, the lesson needs to be learned and a back up left back is STILL a necessity, it is equally as important as the need for an additional centre back and a forward to help out Mike Antonio, but Digne at £135,000 per week? No thanks! -Ed

£135K is still 5K less than Yarmo!

I wouldnt look at over priced Prem prem players, go fishing in the Championship and pick the best on offer there.. like we did with Cressy!

That said, Byram and Fredricks didnt pull up trees so what do I know :o)

Thing is, he's not a bad player. But only suited to a wing back role, he's good going forward, but about as good as Arthur at defending!!!!!
