James Ward-Prowse departs from West Ham United

Submitted by Louis Nixon on Fri, 28/08/2026 - 12:12

With the activity not stopping until September 1st, West Ham are actively trying to make a few more signings whilst still trying to focus on exits to help the Hammers financially across the season.

After joining Southampton in 2023 and making 75 appearances for the club, James Ward-Prowse officially returns to Southampton for a fee of £1,000,000.

Whilst on paper it seems that we’ve gotten rid of an experienced player for just a measly fee, upon including his now halved £ 65k-a-week wages, that, over the course of the season, saves West Ham an extra £3.1m, meaning his exit has helped the Hammers save £4,100,000 in total.

James Ward-Prowse is 31 years old and only had one year left on his contract, meaning West Ham saw an opportunity to take this and ultimately have.

El Hadji Malick Diouf's departure has also been announced, but other exits are also being sorted out or are close to being concluded.

As mentioned, West Ham will look to sign at least three players in the coming days, though four new additions could still be a possibility.

With just five days remaoining of the transfer window, buckle up because it’ll be a journey of cut, chop n’ buy.

Destroyed by coming to us with incompetent management. Not sure what Nunos beef with him was but Moyes did him no favours at all. A player who was on target to beat Beckham's record on dead balls before he arrived and a brief fling on the edge of England selection. I wish him well, a proper professional. Todibos, Alvarez take note

Called Nuno a baldy, unfortunately it pretty much finished him. Nuno had him at Forest where it happened and of course the curse of Nuno followed him back here. Ultimate pro though, as is pointed out. Wish him well.

I worry with all these departures and around 5 vaccancies to fill in 4 days. You know we are going to get some shit. Combination off old and injured. Poor management will de-rail our season before it's begun again.
