just unlucky not to be level, just hope we can settle first in the second half. I would like to see young Quinn have a run in the last 20 minutes, he is quick and would be a threat.

Disappointed to get nothing there, fact is it shows that we need a Defoe type player to compliment big Andy - I know Bilic wouldn't play 2 up top but the number of knock downs hat Carroll won was immense.

Its defiantly an over Reliance on Carroll ,he can knock down all the balls in the world but as you say you need a Defoe type player one or two good saves from Shmicheal but i got the feeling if we were there now we wernt going to score

No creativity and not for the first time this season either! Payet leaving? Just dillusional. Ok Carroll may have knocked down loads but to counter act our lack of invention we need mobility upfront not a throw back of a tall big man and a small quick one. That became obsolete decades ago. We need forward thinking managers not dinosaurs

Payet should stay up front at all times, too much of a liability when he supports the defence. Attacking players get stick sometimes for not doing their defensive duties but he can stay up front and hassle the opposition defence... thats defending in itself and its where a player with his creativity should be

It only became obsolete because of the influx of foreign managers and so called new training methods they brought with them but in my opinion it will still work if we have the right player supporting acarroll.we have to play to his strengths and we need someone running into those knocks on OR we sell him instead and try something different

Sorry Harry I can't agree that it has only become obsolete due to foreign managers in prem. it stems from poor international performances for the home international sides and poor performances at the time in Europe. We as teams had to move on. English mAnagers then couldn't see past the way they had always played and had no for site. I wouldn't be surprised if the real turning point was when Liverpool got English clubs banned after heysel. As a result of the English game becoming stagnant foreign managers were sort after. Neither West Ham or England will be successful until we move forward and stop hankering over the past. Ok 2 upfront can be a plan b or a short term agame or 2 at most. Ramsey won the World Cup because he was forward thinking. 4 midfielders covering over new pitch? Be like Xmas for opponents. Can't understand why our most creative player isn't played behind a front man!

But unfortunately our international game hasnt progressed by moving away from it has it? I would like to see the hammers play 442 now as dont like playing with 3 at the back and so called wing backs as it leaves us exposed or is it that our players are just not good enough. You can play 442 with a big strong striker and someone who is a natural goal scorer alongside him like toshack/keegan back in the day.Call me old fashioned but modern tactic have not worked for us.

Old fashioned, ha ha. We certainly aren't good enough or knowledgeable enough as defenders , wing backs to do 3 at the back and I'm surprised we didn't get mullered every game. We need four at the back, but I'm afraid despite it being the holiday season I have no enthusiasm to watch back to the future again! It's four at the back IMO mostly picks itself. Reid, kouyate, cresswell and prem proven rb in the transfer window. Obiang, fernandes sigarrdson, cm. Payet in the hole if we do Lanzini left Antonio right and ayew, Antonio or as a third choice Carroll up top. I'd even be happy with adding snodgrass or long up front on the cheap. If it has to be on the cheap. I'd use noble and Oxford in a regular rotation with obiang and fernandes or use both noble /Oxford and obiang as twin defensive midfielders against the top 4. As far as international improvement, it's subjective as every other country has improved as well making it seem like we haven't. Add to the fact we have poor players that are technically crap and just are not on the same level in skills, attitude, knowledge of the game, effort to exceed, passion for England or even just desire. Inshort our players have been brought up on doing very little on their game or even done very little in the game for the vast rewards and adulation they get. They have too many side issues to put in the work required to be truly world class and are happy to ride the coat tails of success of foreign players at their clubs.

I dont think he is a dud, just not worth the money we paid for him - I questioned the price we paid and others said it was premature criticism due to his bad luck with injuries at the start of the season... he was gifted a goal v Swansea, done well to be first to the ball but it was on a plate... hope he kicks on, but with AFCON round the corner I expect a stunted season of play from him and dont think he will have time to find a good run of form

We have played very well and started the game very brightly. Travesty of a decision by Mike Dimlo... also see how many offsides united get away with! They let Mkitaryan off the other week, theyve had a few go unnoticed in this game and then there was no shout for the lingard shot that hit the post!

I have to say Nordtveit is really coming along at RB, I've been impressed with him in this game and he was much better v Leicester last week

I think nortveldt will prove to be a decent buy for our squad as a utility. Most of what has been written negatively about him is just rubbish and he looks like he is starting to adjust.
