Manager or Mentality - Blackburn Rovers 2-1 West Ham United
West Ham United have suffered their third defeat in the past four matches, with no wins in the past four. Scott Parker was at the helm for his first match today with the Hammers after he’d actually spent more than just a morning with the squad, and today perhaps might’ve been yet another brutal lesson for Parker and what he has truly walked into.
Looking towards the match, the first half felt rather confident, with players making some nifty passes, pulling off some tricks and skills to earn some chances, but none of which equated towards a goal, which was the true problem in the result today.
Scott Parker has inherited a broken West Ham side, one that many managers have damaged and one that has already suffered under Nuno in this division, rather than having a clean slate, which Parker has had previously in his other Championship expectations.
West Ham United seem to be a case where it doesn’t matter the tactics you apply to the squad, or where you play the players. It’s more about getting the team to work with their heads rather than their feet, as a feeling of ‘connectivity’ in this West Ham side feels non-existent. Players are uncertain to shoot, fearful of the outcome. Defenders tremble rather than tackle.
To pick out individual performances is easy to do. Hermansen will have a lot of discretion coming his way, and given Scott Parker’s previous outings with Alphonso Areola, it feels inevitable that a switch will be made in the future, and that might perhaps address a hairline fracture, but the overarching issue of being mentally defeated in each and every game is persistent.
Yes, Blackburn should have had their second and winning goal disallowed due to Max Kilman suffering a head injury, which was a poor call by the referee; however, it is minimal and simply a gateway to an excuse rather than tackling the true challenge head-on.
The international break has come at the right time for Parker and his men, and during the 14-day break, a shift of numerous seasons’ worth of mental dismay needs to be addressed. It’s certainly going to be a challenge.
The squad is rubbish
Sacking Nuno was not the answer (should have been done after relegation, if at all), and anyone who seriously thinks Parker is going to wave a magic wand is delusional. Most of us would have picked that squad yesterday, a proper left back, Piroe up top and Austbo over Solomon which is probably not what Nuno would have started with. And what difference did it make? Sweet FA! In the last 4 games and the eleven goals conceded, I'm actually only of the mind that Mads is to blame for just one of them so making him scapegoat and cries to replace him with the lamp post are way off the mark, just like the changes yesterday that we have been crying out for made no difference.
Tactics wise, it could have still been Nuno on that touchline, stupid goals conceded and then throw the kitchen sink on in the second half and pray. Its been like that nearly all season, even in the games we won.
Parker will have to change…
Parker will have to change goalkeeper centre backs bring back alvarez and give one of our youngsters a go in the forward line can't be no worse than taty, pablo,at present the whole team from back to front line are lacking in total confidence i would book them all into having hypnotherapy for confidence boosting might do the trick worth trying nothing else seems to work.
Lack of confidence
Confidence is certainly lacking and Parker now has 2 weeks to put this right, you can see the amount of back passes and this was something Scotty said he would address you saw Soloman run right through Cardiff Wednesday when he got their he did not what to do with it Taty hit 2 shots I seen passes hit harder mentally we aint there penalties this season we have missed, back to Blackburn ( no not Amy Winehouse) why Parker replaced Ausbo I just don't get he was the best player on the pitch and didn't look injured don't think Veltman had a lot in his tank and could have done with replacing at half time and we were all in shock when Hermansen's name was on the scoresheet. Think Automatic promotion Is now gone out of the window
Lol ill certainly be in…
Lol ill certainly be in shock if hermansen is on the scoresheet
