Never Fall In Love With A Loan - Milan Haven’t!

Submitted by Louis Nixon on Wed, 18/03/2026 - 10:00

As part of the attempted wage structure reformation or Graham Potter’s player execution, whichever you prefer, the club attempted to solve the financial situation one way or another, a task which meant the Hammers had to make a profit during the January transfer window.

As part of the transformation, the Hammers loaned out Nicholas Füllkrug to AC Milan in the January transfer window, for a total of 100% wage coverage, as well as a buy option of £13,500,000… around half of what the Hammers paid a season ago!

Unsurprisingly, despite our best efforts in attempting to reel in the Italians, they’ve taken the bait without a bite. AC Milan are not interested in triggering the buy option for the German after making 13 appearances, most as a substitute, scoring just one goal.

Difficulty continues to arise with the future prospect of Füllkrug seeing as he will be returning to West Ham in the summer, yet officials have confirmed that he has no future at the Hammers and Nuno as well as the club, have no intention to keep the forward, seeming to confirm his summer exit.

Nicholas Füllkrug is currently under contract at West Ham United until 2028, meaning there won’t be any discounts due to contract length, but his time in a West Ham shirt has already warranted a discounted fee.

It is expected that Füllkrug will be open to a move back to Germany despite initially shutting the door back in January, as circumstances have changed. The hopeful Hammers will be aiming to secure anything above the £10 million region, but even that could prove to be difficult.

Deluded Hammer's picture

Has had nothing to do with Fullkrug, he was loaned out before he arrived. I liken Fullkrug as a similar player to Chris Wood who thrived under Nuno's system and could see him doing a similar role. Much as I like Taty, I don't see him as a 15+ goal a season striker. Under Nuno I could well see Fullkrug reaching that target.
