Safety Still Not Secure - West Ham 1-1 Southampton

Submitted by Louis Nixon on Sat, 19/04/2025 - 18:11

It’s hard to not sound like a broken record with the recent results but today was the definition of lacklustre and lame.

The performance was an embarrassment, the tactical decisions were appalling, and this is a low that many fans didn’t even anticipate us reaching. A starting defence of a back four we knew wouldn’t work, and the midfield gets worse each week.

James Ward-House was appalling, his work ethic is nowhere near Premier League quality, League 1 at best! It was so bad to the point where it makes you question why did we sell Flynn Downes? He was miles better than Housey today.

Boos at halftime around the bowl, even louder boos at full time and fully deserved so, to not beat one of the worst teams in the history of the competition goes to show the state of this squad, season and club.

Potter needs to figure out something because we can’t find any bit of consistency nor play style. Not beating this Southampton squad is a sackable offence.

In terms of the attack, our numerous chances and from the few passages of play we had, they seemed to all end up in the feet of Mohammed Kudus, who must’ve had his ‘no shooting’ boots on. It felt as if he was repelled from the goal; he would consistently hold up the ball and hope that someone else would turn up.

Not to mention the substitute choices at the end… why would any manager take off Jarrod? He’s one of the only attackers who will run the 90 no matter how knackered he is, we still take the captain off and then go concede.

There’s 5 games to go, and thankfully, we can now count them out on one hand. The misery isn’t over yet, but it’s getting closer.

But for me the players need to show they want to wear a West Ham shirt because not one of them could be arsed not a one.

Slow lethargic walking football sideways and back...players just not interested and do not want to do anything to change it...you will hear all the usual bollox from them on there various media outlets...yeah just not good enough today the performance not up to standard we let ourselves down blah blah well do something about it you bunch of useless one trick ponies instead of the meaningless platitudes you all seem so fond of.

Kudus Pacman don't want to be there Soler wont get a contract once loan finished because of the wages Fulkrug don't blame him for wanting to go back home the list goes on and according to Potter we dont need much of a rebuild in the summer.

like i put in the post i wrote we do not have any leaders not a single one just players who stroll around not taking any responsibility.....get shot of the bloody lot of em.

Him and Sullivan are a pair of chumps!

Potter couldnt get a tune out of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Who else would you blame for the substitutions and moving to a back five to hold a one goal lead against the second worst team in the league?

i see on Facebook Ze German is not happy....... does he have a point or just restless to get away?

But the players who never put in any effort..under Moyes under Loppy and no under Potter its like we are a mini Manure and the way the players get shot of the manager try for a bit then cannot be arsed its not our fault its the manager.

He said we were shit in interview and called out his fellow players......now there is someone who has the blinkers off and says it how it is.

It's rarely I dissagree with you bike but I think your barking up the wronge tree blaming the players ,it's easy to see when players have no faith in the manager, or loosing the dressing room as they say .Personally I think our whole system has been going down the Jack's for a long time now, thinking we might be better off going down a division ,or even start over again without that dipshit of an owner ,for me ,and a lot more on here he's the problem ,he doesn't seem to give a fuck ,and the start of the decay?? Moving from our spiritual home to this monstrosity in Stratford ,yes I know lots of people saw it as unfit for purpose anymore ,capacity , facilities ,but when you look back on Uppers it was a very special place .
That little part arse has a lot of nerve calling himself a chairman ,what happened the money they got for selling the place .
I will agree with you on one point about the players ,they are with 1 or 2 exception ordinary, div 2 status , Soechec ,Cofal,Ward Prouse ,paddy the Greek , really???? .
When you think of all the times we went up and down like a fiddlers elbow there was never the lack of confidence that there is now ,we've literally took world class players and turned them into mediocre want aways .
When people say we need to rebuild it's more than just a new team that's needed.

Cant agree about the move to the BoM, when we are playing well like we saw in the Euro's the place rocks. Given the size of our club we need to be mirroring the likes of Villa.

I really was looking forward to Potters tenure & still hope he succeeds. But it is becoming a hard watch again. Yes. He has tightened things up at the back. We are no longer conceding the 3, 4 & 5's. But we have fallen back into the habit of conceding late goals. Injury time goals conceded against Everton and Southampton. That's 4 points. Also we've had a few dodgy decisions not go our way. The foul on Fulkruug by The Scouser last week for their winner. Isak done similar for Newcastle to give them a draw. If VAR had done it's job another 3 points. So with a bit of luck that's 7 points more.
He's also inherited a crap squad. For me we need a major overhaul all over the pitch. No room for sentiment. With Potter in situ it makes sense to stick with him. He's had a look. He knows who he wants and who he don't. For me. All he has to do is win his next home game. The season has been shambolic. But there has been a glimmer. Scharles forcing his way in. Earthy & Potts getting rave reviews. Fulkruug looks ok when he plays. So. Beat Spurs. Might just take the edge off.

My thoughts exactly Enfield. I'm still 100% behind Potter, it is getting harder to watch it's true. Have to move on to next week...

Problem Potts has is same old same old ,lack of investment ,they have already made it clear their looking towards the continent for cheap potential super stars ,of which only about 1 in 12 /15 come to any sort of fruition, to us 50 mill is mind-blowing sum of money to the likes of man shitty ,the phoo , the arse ,and Chelsea ,it's pocket money.

Think that the transfer window is going to be so important next season because we can all see that we would have been well in stook had it not been Southampton Ipswich and Leicester and we cant even beat Southampton and we have Ipswich last game that could be exiting but lets assume we wind up 16th and stay in the prem this season. A lot is going to depend on our first few fixtures and e always seem to start with Citeh or the bin dippers with Leeds coming up next season I can see a relegation battle looming up

We are safe Ipswich can only get 15 points and have a -20 worse goal difference than us. Plus they have to play us we've been safe for weeks. Five games to go we'll win a couple. So no dramas..
