Should FA Cup Draw Decide Hammers Team sheet?

Submitted by Louis Nixon on Sun, 08/03/2026 - 12:45

West Ham United are set to take on Brentford on Monday night in the FA Cup fifth round, but given the circumstances, could Nuno decide his line-up based on the next round?

West Ham will be the last game to commence in the fifth round of the FA Cup, meaning that all other teams would’ve been decided by the end of Sunday, with Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Manchester City already confirmed to be through at this moment in time.

Due to the fixture taking place on Monday night, the draw for the Quarter Finals will take place BEFORE West Ham take on Brentford.

Given West Ham United’s situation at this moment in time in the Premier League, playing an extra game isn’t necessarily ideal, but if an entertaining cup run can provide players and fans with further hope, then why not go all gung-ho!

But… that all depends on which team West Ham get in the next round, hypothetically speaking, if the ball was drawn and West Ham got Manchester City away, it wouldn’t be entirely surprising to see a sudden weaker side being played against Brentford, but if a favourable draw was made, perhaps some willpower would be used.

For the select few that are concerned about the extra games, let it be assured that all relegation candidates forcibly have extra games, ourselves and Leeds United are still both in the FA Cup, whilst Spurs and Nottingham Forest have to endure a double leg in their respective European competitions, a minimum of two games, with that possibly being four or more.

All confirmed teams in the FA Cup through to the next round will be confirmed by the end of tonight, barring West Ham or Brentford, and tomorrow the draw will take place around 19:00, an hour before kick off.

But considering the teams already through i think the decision will already have been made...not one i am in favour off but with the precarious nature of our finances i am certain that the Premier league will be prioritised over the FA Cup.

What ever team Luno had in mind he should stick with.

I think a balance of first choice and best youngsters would be ideal starting 11 with with a strong bench.

We have financial issues and a cup run will only help. Keeping a winning mentality will help the league position, exiting early didn't help Spudz!

Just hope we don't have one Wembley and a Funeral!

The funny thing about a cup run. If your name is on the cup, then it is.

You'll look back on all the scares in previous rounds. Then think, blimey how did we do that? This year for instance. If we win tonight, then there's 3 teams you want. But 4 you don't. Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and City.

I still expect one of the so called big 4 to win it, but it's all about the draw!!

I wouldn't fear Chavski or The Victims particularly at home. We took, both on their home soil, all the way, Chavski beat us in the second half when we should have been out of sight and Poo we were great registering the best data notably Ex Goals.

I would say THEY would have us on their list of teams to avoid at the moment. KTF!!!!

Can you imagine, we beat Brentford and get Port Vale at home? We will know our potential opponents before the game. Surely thats a good thing?
