Thunderbolt Matures Into Thunder-strikes

Submitted by Louis Nixon on Fri, 22/08/2025 - 22:35

The Hammers kicked off the campaign with an absolute thunderbolt, Malick Diouf laid of Lucas Paqueta who fired the ball from miles out, beating Robert Sanchez and most likely securing our goal of the season.

Goal of the season? Or only goal of the year.

From that point onwards, bar a goal that temporarily put the Hammers up 2-1 from the German which was deemed as offside, one became two and two would eventually mature into five.

A 3-0 defeat at Sunderland and now a 5-1 defeat to Chelsea in our own backyard. 8 goals conceded in two games, a friendly reminder that the most goals conceded in a season is 106… a friendly reminder that we’re 2 games in and we’re 7.55% of the way there to equal that record.

Despite my vision being slightly impaired due to stadium, 25 minutes for the end of the first half myself as well as Sky Sports pundits, attempted to figure out the style of play we possessed and simply no one could figure it out. The best we got was Jamie Redknapp calling AWB and Todibo’s defensive performances as ‘Scandelous’.

The complimentary halftime comments were matched with the advertisement boards saying ‘Got a leak?’ Quite a fitting analogy if you ask me.

Hermansen conceding 8 goals in two games will hold doubt in a lot of people’s mind, not to mention the mock cheering he received tonight when making simple saves.

Nottingham Forest, Spurs, Crystal Palace, Everton and Arsenal are the next FIVE Premier League matches and a victory let alone a point seems unfathomable.

A miserable 90 minutes combined with headaches, confusion and dull & null emotions.

From top to toe.

It starts with Sullivan, the man couldn’t run a bath let alone a club, Potter is piss poor just like our defense. As for our new keeper.. only West Ham would buy the worst keeper from the previous season… amateurs!

That tackle on Paqueta outside the box that led to the Chelsea goal was scandalous that it was not considered a foul. Those type of tackles in the box would 100% have been a penalty. That was a game changer as the Hammers looked dejected and knew that it was a long climb up the steep concrete hill with no ropes. West Ham started well with putting in those tackles and not allowing Chelsea players to dwell on the ball that led to that Paqueta stunner. But they then seemed to have run out of steam and it was the usual sit back and soak all the pressure. Why??
Not so long ago under Moyes, West Ham were a threat at corners and set pieces. However, now they were poor at wasting those precious chances and pathetically conceding goals at defending those set pieces.
Bottom of the table, and no doubt a system that is crumbling!! Potter when are you going to turn this around? Oops, when he moves on in the very near future, then he will blame the lack of recruitment of players of his choice. Get Areola back in the sticks. Not a single save from this keeper that they overpaid!!

Diouf should not of played the ball to him for a start he should of hit it down the line but he played it and Paquetas poor touch leads to the challenge which was hard but fair.

As for us well said it in the other post we started well and Chelski looked shaky at the back we scored then decided to sit back let them have the ball and not even attempt to close them down..same ol same ol...give good players the ball they will punish you and we got what we deserved...and we have found the new Roberto with butter fingers i ask you only West Ham could buy such an obviously flawed keeper...good with his feet they say well a GK needs to be good with his hands!

Biggest problem for me is this obsession with back 3. He's got good wing backs and that makes it hard now to change. But should never have stuck with it.

Our midfield is too openn and slow to play with a back 3. No commitment to vlose down players. Embarassing watching Chelsea play to you to me in midfle of pitch with no challenges coming in. Potter hasnt a clue. Whst the hell are we doing in training sessions - non league clubs would put up more of a fight than this team

We need to get back to basics. 4-4-2. This whole mess stems from Sullivan. Potter obviously told him how he wants to play. But he has not got the tools ( he has plenty of tools) but not the tools required for that job. It's pointless getting rid of Potter now as any new manager will be working with the crap Potter as mainly inherited.
So unless Sullivan goes. We are riding an Express Elevator to Hell.
The club has know lost it soul. The heartbeat off the club is fading. It's unrecognisable to that last match under Bilic at Upton Park.
So sad.
