Victory Achieved But At The Expense Of Two Injuries For Hammers

Submitted by Louis Nixon on Wed, 11/03/2026 - 10:00

West Ham United accumulated two injuries across their emphatic win on penalties, Nuno Espírito Santo’s side managed to triumph over flying high Brentford to secure themselves a place in the Quarterfinals

Whilst in a tough relegation scrap, a cup run wasn’t ever supposed to be on the cards, but through twisted fate and fortune, the Hammers have made it to the final eight teams remaining in the competition.

Whilst this achievement is exciting, it has come at a great cost temporarily, across the four halves that occurred, Crysencio Summerville and Adama Traore both accumulated injuries.

The Spanish international’s injury is thought to be minor, and he exited the pitch at half-time due to precautionary measures. Nuno didn’t want to risk the winger for the future, and he’d run his heart out up until half-time, making sense as to why he exited during the break.

The injury of more concern comes for Summerville. The Dutchman was likely set to be integrated into the Netherlands national team this upcoming break, but deep into extra-time, our star winger went down with a calf injury, and whilst he stayed on for the remaining minutes, he opted not to take a penalty.

After the game, it was reported that Summerville had a scan to see the extent of the injury, which will keep him out until the return from the international break, which conveniently, will be the FA Cup game against Leeds United.

Losing Summerville for a couple of matches is a negative, but it could’ve been a whole lot worse, given that every Hammers fan began to panic once the Dutchman went to the floor, including the commentators! - At this given moment in time, he will be missing the matches against Manchester City and Aston Villa.

Fortunately, the Dutchman seems to be able to return for the fixtures against Wolves, Crystal Palace, Everton and Brentford, which will likely be the fateful four to determine our safety.

Theres no denying Jimmy will be a big loss. When he runs with the ball he is mesmerising to watch. So Traore will presumably get a couple of starts now. Which is good for him, he will become a firm favourite I'm sure. Very glad he's one of ours now..

This was always going to be the problem, and now its happened, this is all well and good being in the cup,but would of been more of a pleasure if we were mid table, and not fighting to stay up.
