West Ham have completed the signing of Argentinean attacking midfielder Manuel Lanzini from Al Jazira, he has already undergone a medical at Hammer's private medical facility, and is hoped to be a replacement for Stewart Downing. David Gold confirmed the move today, tweeting that the midfielder – nicknamed ‘the jewel’ – has signed for the club from Al Jazira. The move has been confirmed on the O/S as well. Lanzini arrives on a season's loan, with a view to a permanent move should his stay with West Ham be successful, he signed for Al Jazira from River Plate for a fee in excess of £5 Million, but it is believed the move was always seen as a 'stepping stone' for what is a very gifted footballer. Lanzini is the seventh player to arrive this summer, and with only one out so far, expect a few more departures within the next week- Ed

I hope he is NOT a replacement for Downing (whose replacement I sincerely hope is yet to be signed) but rather backup for Payet and a player to give us more attacking options and greater quality in the squad. Exciting talent, let's hope he can do the business at the higher level. For those who worry about his height, he's pretty much the same height as another short-ass Argentinian who plays in Spain... :-)))

watching videos on you tube, it seems to be good. Fast player and good dribbling, see how he copes in PL. But I do not think he is the substitute Downing.
