West Ham Set To Poach Veteran Staff From Newcastle United

Submitted by Louis Nixon on Tue, 16/06/2026 - 09:26

The building begins, and it’s begun with a bang! Daniel Kretinsky is wasting no time being at the top and has decided the reshuffle begins now for the Hammers.

It’s been no hidden secret that the Hammers have been after new members of staff, especially since the departure of Max Hahn, and what better way to do so than getting a man with years of experience on the board… introducing Steve Nickson.

The Englishman most recently informed Newcastle United that he would be departing the club after 15 years at St James’ Park, working as head of recruitment.

Whilst West Ham’s open role of Head of Technical Recruitment and Analysis is available, it is highly unlikely that Nickson will be taking that gig.

A step down to the Championship for a club that achieved Champions League Football not too long ago would indicate that another role is being taken. A role with higher pay will have been offered to the Englishman, perhaps ticking a box for him and his future aspirations that he wanted to achieve in Football.

It is thought that Steve Nickson will be either West Ham United’s newest Sporting Director or Technical Director.

Whilst it remains to be seen which role has been offered to him, it is thought that he will put pen to paper for his new role by the end of next week at the latest, as the Hammers are keen to have the beginning of their backroom staff organised within the coming weeks.

A lot of work has to be done, and whilst it’s understandable not to get ahead of yourself, it is nice to see ambition being shown, isn’t it?
